An eight-month-old puppy is safe after Fairfax County Fire and Rescue saved him from a house fire on Friday.
Firefighters were called to the single-family home at 717 Forest Park Rd. in Great Falls about 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Units reported heavy smoke and fire coming from all sides of the two-story home, and firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and brought the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes, according to a fire department press release.
No one was home at the time, but a nearby neighbor was alerted by sounding smoke alarms and called 911.
Firefighters, during their primary search, rescued two dogs. The eight-month old Labrador/Great Dane puppy was revived at the scene using a pet oxygen mask.
The home received major damage due to fire, smoke, and water and two occupants have been displaced.
The fire originated in the kitchen and caused about $300,000 in damage, officials said.
