Police say a Herndon man sprayed a group of middle-schoolers with pepper spray while on the Washington & Old Dominion Trail in Ashburn last week.

According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, 47-year-old Marcos A. Catalan sprayed the kids as he passed by them on a bicycle in the area of Gloucester Parkway at about 4:05 p.m. Thursday:

A group of middle-school aged children were in the area of the Washington and Old Dominion trail. A cyclist approached and reportedly was holding a can in his hand. As the cyclist passed, he sprayed what the juveniles believed to be pepper spray in the direction of several of the children.
