Anne Smyers is a Reston-based fiber artist and small business owner. She’s been sewing since childhood and started quilting in 2007, quickly transitioning into the world of art quilting. She particularly loves floral fabrics, and has developed unique ways of using them in her fiber art, creating landscapes and more recently, mandalas from carefully cut floral motifs. The mandala is a symbol of wholeness in eastern religions, representing the macrocosm contained in the microcosm – i.e., that the wholeness of existence can be found in the smallest aspect of it. The pieces in her current show, “Floral Mandalas,” are the latest creations in her ongoing exploration of what she thinks of as “fun with flowers.” Experimenting with color, shape, repetition, contrast and line in these pieces continues to engage and delight her. Anne loves answering questions about her artwork and welcomes everyone to attend the reception.
