Reston Town Center launches the festive season with the 24th annual Reston Holiday Parade at 11:00 a.m. with Macy’s-style balloons, marching bands, dancers, antique cars, characters, community groups, dignitaries, special guest emcees, and much more. The one-of-a-kind, one-hour, half-mile parade along Market Street also welcomes the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus in a horse-drawn carriage. Since 1991, rain or shine, the parade has been an annual tradition on the day after Thanksgiving. Celebrating “Home for the Holidays” this year, the parade will have an Americana theme, offering a big welcome to members of the military and their families. Before the parade starts, thousands of American flags and jingle bells will be handed out to spectators along the route. The entire day is full of fun for the whole family, beginning with the Gingerbread Man Mile races for kids at 8:00 a.m. After the parade, Santa and Mrs. Claus will stay for visits and photos until 4:30 p.m., and then return at 6:00 p.m. for the Tree Lighting that’s followed by a community Sing Along in Fountain Square. Horse-drawn carriage rides begin at 6:30 p.m., through 10:30, with all proceeds benefiting local charities. Adding to the atmosphere, the glittering Ice Skating Pavilion is open all day, and every day, November until March. Follow Reston Town Center on Facebook and Twitter.
