September 22: INSIDE OUT: The People’s Art Project (2013)
This fascinating documentary tracks the evolution of the biggest participatory art project in the world. The project encourages people to take what is “inside” them and turn them “out” to face the world and connect others to ideas, feelings, and their humanity. Travel the globe with French artist JR as he motivates entire communities to define their most important causes with incredibly passionate
displays of giant black and white portraits pasted in the street. In capturing the process, Alastair Siddons creates a glowing testament to the power of image and the role that art can play in transforming communities.
This special film will precede the opening of the We Make Reston exhibit which will debut at the Reston Multicultural Festival on September 26.
This movie is presented in collaboration with the Initiative for Public Art – Reston (IPAR). IPAR seeks to inspire an ongoing commitment to public art and create a new generation of artworks in Reston. Thanks to RCC’s support, IPAR developed this program to present exceptional public art projects. Visually stimulating and thought-provoking, the films in the series are being shown to foster a community conversation about public art.
