Tiki Thai, a bar and restaurant, will officially open its doors at 11 a.m. today (Monday) in Reston.

The business, which combines elements of Polynesian and Thai culture, is located at 12100 Sunset Hills Road. The team behind Sense of Thai St. — a popular Thai food restaurant in One Loudoun — is also behind the latest venture in Reston.

While it’s fun to celebrate Polynesian culture, at TIKI THAI we also honor it.Without compromising of integrity and staying true to the history, we aim to deliver the same experience that historians like Ernest Raymond Beaumont Gantt (aka Donn Beach) feel in love with in the early 1930s while traveling the islands of Oceania . Around the same time the kingdom of Siam transitioned to what we know as Thailand today. Thailand’s deep culinary history pays homage to neighboring country’s like Malaysia, Indonesia and India that have heavy influence within every dish.

These two cultures carry a strong heritage worthy of respect and it is our pleasure to share our passion hospitality while honoring both cultures here at TIKI THAI.

This week’s soft opening hours are from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with a lunch special from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and a brunch special on weekends from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Customers can place orders for curbside pickup and delivery.

A barbershop-bar concept is reportedly working on deals in Reston, Bisnow reports.

Scissors & Scotch is planning to expand in the area with several locations in Reston, Vienna and Loudoun County.

The Kansas City-based retailer was founded in 2015 and offers a cocktail bar with a men’s barbershop. It recently signed a deal to open a second new location in the District.

Given the challenges the retail market is facing today, Koroma said launching an expansion across the region is allowing Scissors & Scotch to land tenant-favorable deals. He said he has gotten frequent calls from developers with available retail space asking if Scissors & Scotch would be interested. 

“The concessions have been tremendous, and the positive note on what’s happening is everyone is in deal mode,” Koroma said. “Everybody wants to make a deal, and it’s a win-win situation. Landlords are happy to do this because you get a concept that not only do you know will be successful, but you see it as a value-add and an amenity to the project.”

Lake Anne Plaza will welcome its first gourmet dive bar this week.

Local VA will hold its grand opening on Friday (Feb. 21) from 5-11 p.m.

The business takes the place of a Thai restaurant that closed last year at 1633 Washington Plaza.

The menu isn’t available to preview yet, but at a soft opening earlier four days ago, customers said the menu included steak frites, wings, macaroni and cheese, as well as other items.

As 2020 nears, there are plenty of bars, restaurants and clubs around Reston and Herndon catering to people trying to spend their final hours of the year in style.

Here are some of the events in the Reston area where people can celebrate New Year’s Eve.

PassionFish Reston (11960 Democracy Drive) will host a party with no cover charge from 10:30 p.m. until 1:45 a.m. on New Year’s Eve. The event will feature a DJ, a photo booth, a special bar menu and several dining options.

For those seeking an all-inclusive option, there will be an event at Clyde’s of Reston (11905 Market Street) on Dec. 31 from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. For $125, guests can enjoy unlimited appetizers and drinks. There will be a DJ and party favors handed out at the event. This party is for guests 21 or older.

Kalypso’s Sports Tavern (1617 N Washington Plaza) is offering guests the chance to celebrate with New Year’s Eve DECA Party, beginning at 6 p.m. The $10 charge will include party favors, live DJ, champagne toast and a specialty cocktail. Guests are asked to wear cocktail attire.

In Herndon, Anatolian Bistro (13029 Worldgate Drive) is hosting a dinner party with live entertainment including Turkish music and a belly dancer. The $85 dollar fee will include a three-course meal and a complimentary glass of wine. Times vary throughout the evening and people can make a reservation.

Ned Devine’s Irish Bar and Restaurant (2465 Centreville Road) invites people to come and enjoy New Year’s Eve with a celebration featuring live bands, a feed of New York’s Times Square celebration and free champagne at midnight. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online. The event begins at 7 p.m. and goes until 1 a.m.

The roaring ’20s will return with an event at Bar Louie (13195 Parcher Ave) from 8 p.m. until 2 a.m. Tickets are free unless attendees wish to purchase a package for $50, which includes drink tickets, a champagne toast and appetizers.  People are encouraged to dress in 1920s attire.

Paddywax Candle Bar, a shop that allows customers to hand-pour candles they create, is opening its first Virginia location in Reston Town Center next month.

The business, which is marketed as an “experiential retail shop,” has seven other locations in the country.

Customers chose a vessel during each one-hour candle pouring session, as well as a fragrance. Workshop participants are then guided through the process of making their own candle by placing the wicks, mixing the fragrance and pouring the wax. 

The candle bar also includes beer and wine available for purchase.

It takes over space previously occupied by  The Tasting Room Wine Bar and Shop, which closed in February.

The owner of an upscale piano bar has reneged on plans to open an upscale piano bar in Herndon’s Junction Square neighborhood.

Risky Ricky’s planned to open last year at 700 Elden Street. But after waiting for two years as the builder completed the project, the owner says he recently decided to pull the plug on the project, which would have featured an upscale wine and piano bar.

“At a later stage, the developer still had no idea as to when the project will finish,” Rick Khosla, the owner, told Reston Now. He originally planned to open in September 2017 — a date that was later pushed to late 2018.

Khosla says the property did not come with any dedicated parking spots — which also prompted him to back off on his business plans. He says the cost of completing the space was also too excessive “to make the numbers work.” Khosla also hinted “animosity from local businesses” because of his decision to sell wine.

Earlier this month, artist Trisha Adams opened up a new art gallery at Junction Square. Work to get other businesses in motion is ongoing.

Risky Ricky’s is still on the market for a new location in Herndon or Reston. Khosla is planning to move back to Herndon after two years in Sterling and hopes to see projects like Junction Square succeed.

“Herndon is close to my heart,” he said.
