With Memorial Day weekend right around the corner, now is the perfect time to spruce up your outdoor living space. Nothing is more convenient then an outdoor kitchen: you can entertain your guests right in the backyard, without running inside to cook.

As shown in the my previous blog posts, today’s kitchen trends incorporate durable elements with personal taste. Whatever the size of your space, you can combine custom appliances and cabinets made out of elegant-yet-hardy materials with a variety of texture and plants to create a space where your guests will feel at home.

Space

Any size outdoor kitchen will be convenient and attractive if the space is laid out well. Outdoor kitchen/Anna GibsonIn a small yard, position a top-of-the-line grill opposite a cozy couch and weatherproof coffee table. If you’ve got room to grow, cabinets and countertops add storage and extend your prep space. The shape of an outdoor kitchen can be more creative, from an L shape to a wave. Follow the flow of your backyard’s current layout to maximize space.

kitchen photo/DecopadColors — Gray, white and soft colors will continue to dominate the trends in 2016. Glidden and Benjamin Moore have both named off-white hues the color of 2016. Additionally, Behr and Sherwin-Williams have off-white in their 2016 color trends.

In 2015, gray hit the market strong as it fits right there in the middle, the gray zone, between the white, light and the dark. In 2016, gray is maturing with lots more shades, grain and texture. Read More

Just like the weather, home remodeling trends come and go. However, no matter what, the kitchen has cemented its place in history as the center of the house.

Kitchen Trends/AKG StudioIn the last few decades, the focus on the kitchen has grown exponentially. When the trend of opening the kitchen to the rest of the house was born, it affected many other trends in design and function. This is a two-part series to explore those trends.

“The Super Kitchen” — Nino Sitchinava, the principal economist at Houzz, says “findings show that homeowners expect kitchen renovations to go far beyond improving flow, storage or aesthetics. The ‘super kitchen’ has literally become a living room, family room and office, blurring the lines between the kitchen as one room and the rest of the house. ”

Consumers want their space to be flexible and functional, since the super kitchen supports kitchen, living room, and office activities. Clients want to create statement kitchens with décor that blends into other living spaces and the dining room.
