Since when isn’t larceny a serious crime?

I suppose it is a subjective thing, especially if you are the victim of a crime. Some of the property crimes that show up in the police reports are for small amounts, such as “garden tools taken from a shed” or “beer taken from a store.” So monetarily speaking, compared to say a bank robbery, and compared to a crime against a person, such as assault, one could say most larcenies don’t fall under serious crime.
