Best Reston Business Award logoReston has no shortage of Realtors. But good Realtors — you know, the one that found you your dream house, negotiated a sweet deal, sold your previous home in days and held your hand through contingencies and credit checks — deserve our praise.

Below are the six finalists nominated by Reston Now readers to earn our Best Reston Business Real Estate Agent Award.

Voting for the best in real estate opens today, so vote for one of the candidates below. Voting will be open through May 12.

  • John Lovaas

Is it coincidental that this “contest” is published beside the ad for one realtor? Just sayin’.

    • Karen Goff

      Yes.

    • Kate Peterson

That’s quite an ugly implication Mr. Lovaas- It seems that Ms. Thompson gives an extraordinary amount of time to the community in her service to Reston and Lake Anne in particular-why in the world would you do that?

      • John Lovaas

Comment is on poor work of RestonNow not your friend.
She didn’t cause the coincidence I refer to, did she?!

        • Karen Goff

John. I am not following you. How is this poor work? We put the call out the community. The readers made nominations. Eve was among the nominations? Why should she be DQed because she advertises with us. It would be poor work if she was legitimately nominated and we excluded her.

          • John Lovaas

            Karen,
My question was about the awkward coincidence of placement of the “contest” right beside the prominent advertisement for one candidate. Reminds me of the “fair and balanced” folks on TV.
This is no attack on any candidate, and I resent your characterizing it as such.
I was questioning your publication for giving an apparent edge to your biggest advertiser, nothing more.
            John Lovaas

          • Karen Goff

            Stop, John. Just stop.

          • LesAnn620

John, I nominated Eve. She’s a wonderful realtor and she was ours when we bought our place in Reston.

          • John Lovaas

            So what?

          • LesAnn620

You seemed to be questioning whether or not she was truly nominated. I was just saying she was and I was one to do so. Why are your knickers in such a twist over this? It’s a contest on the internet…

        • Kate Peterson

I suspect this is more about Mr. Lovaas’s sour grapes at not being able to contribute his none stop tirades in the form of blog posts to RestonNow. I for one find this publication much better without the crazy conspiratorial input of Mr. Lovaas’ “The View from over Here.”

          • Fran Lovaas

Who IS Kate Peterson? Is she an alias? Does she live in Reston? Could we meet her sometime? Come forward Kate!

          • Kate Peterson

I’m just a person who lives in Reston-and actually we’ve met 2 twice at the Farmer’s Market, once at the Democrats table and once at the AAUW table- I guess I wasn’t important enough for you to remember. As far as the question of advertisement placement- The adverts I’ve seen are for Aspen Jewelry and the Reston Station parking. Why would you and your husband clutter this bit of fun with your personal vendettas? Its really in poor taste.

          • Fran Lovaas

Hmmm, that is definitely a strange comment that I have met you twice in past years but wouldn’t remember you because you are “not important enough”? And where does the “personal vendetta” come from? Are you telling me that I cannot vote for whomever I wish for this contest and give the reasoning for it and also suggest other prominent realtors that are not on this list?
BUT I am asking also, who are you that turns this into a “personal vendetta of your own”? I would love to meet you AGAIN and discuss this with you?

          • Kate Peterson

I can’t help that I wasn’t memorable to you Mrs. Lovaas- the vendetta reference is about you and your husband’s clear dislike for the Reston Now website. Though you seem to be spending a lot of time on it today.

          • Fran Lovaas

So you are saying that making any kind of critical comment about a public forum is a vendetta?? And you are so right!! Why am I still on this site?? Come on Kate, meet me in person and quit hiding behind cyberspace. You know who I am, it’s only fair for me to see if you are a real person.

          • Billy Smith

How bizarre? What exactly are you claiming? The women is posting using her NAME?! Do you know the face of every person who posts on this site? In all of Reston?

  • Fran Lovaas

Why don’t we have great realtors like Donna Shaffer and Karen Swanson on the list?

    • Karen Goff

Fran. We put out the call to Reston Now readers last week to nominate their favorites. These are the top six nominations. The two realtors you mentioned were not nominated/

      • Fran Lovaas

So this is only a contest for your readership. Not really one for the general population of Reston? Okay, I understand now. Just needed the clarification. Thanks

        • Karen Goff

Fran. That is just silly. The contest is open to everyone in Reston. It is sponsored and located on Reston Now though. So, if you don’t click onto the site, you can’t nominate or vote. How else would you suggest we do this? Read people’s minds? Knock on all 25,000 doors in town?

          • Shawn

The way to do it is to INVITE all the REALTORS in Reston to send the details of the poll to their clients. Your deck is stacked with 5 Long & Foster agents (out of 6) as it appears they spend the most advertising dollars with your publication.

          • Karen Goff

Sorry. The way we are doing it is the way we are doing it. This is just one of 15 categories and all finalists were nominated by our readers. Also, realtors are independent contractors and not employees of an agency. Long and foster does advertise with us, individual realtors do.

          • Karen Goff

Also. During the nomination process many realtors in town did alert their clients to vote for them. And they did so.

  • Irma R Garcia

    The Hartke Brothers rock!

  • clambj

I nominate and vote for the Antionelli Team (Long & Foster).

    • clambj

Chris Antionelli if you need a name.

    • Karen Goff

Sorry, the call for nominations was last week.

    • clambj

I nominated some businesses for some categories, but do not recall this one. Were nomination categories posted all at once, or on a rolling basis. Just a little constructive criticism, next time I would include a write in option, same as in any election. That way people don’t get bent out of shape, even though it’s over something as silly as the numerous “best of” contests every publication puts out.

  • Gary Mason

I prefer Lindsey Michaels at Coldwell Banker. She spent a great deal of time with me and provided me with a plan on updates/minor fixes that would SELL the house. This resulted in me having multiple offers to choose from and garnering the highest price per square foot in Reston at the time of the sale… She is professional, courteous, efficient and quickly handled every obstacle that came up along the way (I’m talking to you, Reston DRB) If you need a realtor, I highly recommend her.

    • Karen Goff

      Sorry, nominations were last week.

  • They are all good. tough to pick one 🙂

  • Justin Edwards

psh no competition of best realtors in Reston can be complete with our mentioning Virginia Clark! She help me and my brother buy wonderful places in Reston right by lake anne and RTC! She did a great job finding things that were better than what I was expecting! Consider this my write in vote 🙂 http://homefindersteam.com/

    • Billy Smith

Your know it’s kind of crappy that you use this as your personal advertising opportunity.

      • Justin Edwards

ha its not bro. I am just a happy buyer that is more than willing to share my experiences! I am not Virginia Clark and to use disqus I tied it to my facebook so how would that be personal? I really dont understand how you came to that conclusion unless you are just a #InternetTroll

  • Adrian Havill

You really needed a write-in space for these space filling contests.

  • Bertwin Krosch Lord

Mark Wilson is an amazing realtor for us. He really finds out what we are looking for and then shows me those houses … no matter how many and if we change our mind. Mark took us through the entire process and was sure that we understood each step before continuing on. I have goon back to Mark for looking at rentals for my mom and sister and asked his help for corporate as well. After buying the house I can also rely on Mark to give me advice about modifications to make to the house and how much those changes would effect marketability and price.

  • Mary Rhoads

In all my years working with realtors both as a seller and buyer, I’ve never met one as patient and knowledgeable as Mark Wilson. We were only looking to rent so ours would not have been a “big ticket” or very lucrative deal to close but Mark was never a moment late meeting us for an appointment, sent us every available rental and followed up on each and every home we inquired about. Thanks again Mark for all your time and effort and good luck with this contest.

  • Shell

Mark Wilson knew what we wanted in a home, long before we figured it out for ourselves. He helped us choose a beautiful home in Sterling that had many amenities and space. We are enjoying our hot tub and screened in porch today and will be barbequing on our lovely patio this weekend. He is patient, diligent and kind. Pretty much, a class act all around. I recommend him whole heartedly.

  • Molton Real Estate

I am a Realtor working in The Falls Church area. Mark Wilson was absolutely incredible to work with. Patient, ethical, responsive and an all around great person. I highly recommend him for this award
