“Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry” visit Lake Anne Elementary School students

  • Chuck Morningwood

Why are we allowing slaveholders to visit our elementary aged children? “Why yes, little girl, not only did I own people like you, but they were also my personal playthings.”

    • Mike M

Would you rather we teach history as fiction? Or go Soviet and rub out those who don’t mesh well with the party line of the day? Did you know that slavery was bigger and thousands of years older than the US? Did you know that many of the most influential people in the history of the world were slave holders. (They did loads of other incorrect things too.) Shall we pretend they didn’t exist? Shall we ignore their influences and obsess about slavery? Shall we vacate George Washington and Thomas Jeffersons influences on our world and obsess about slavery? Shouldn’t our kids know about the contributions these people made?

    • Mike M

Dang! You’d think I’d be sensitive to the trigger words by now.
