South Lakes 10K May Affect Reston Roads Sunday

SL 10KSome roads in the area of Reston’s South Lakes High School may be affected Aug. 28 due to the South Lakes 10K road race.

The fifth-annual race will benefit SLHS’ cross country team. Registration is available online or on race day.

Here is what you need to know if you are trying to get around nearby:

The race begins at 7:30 a.m. at South Lakes High School.

The course will take runners down South Lakes Drive, then to Colt’s Neck Road, Sunrise Valley Drive, Ridge Heights Road and Soapstone Drive before returning to the South Lakes’ track.

The roads will not be completely blocked, but runners will take over the curb lane. That may slow traffic or cause delays, so plan accordingly.

See a map of the course on the race website.

“runners will take over the curb lane”

RestonNow – does that mean we won’t be able to cross the lane at all? My neighborhood will be completely cut off at Sunrise Valley if that’s the case. Or will there be “crossing guards” there to hold runners to let cars in and out? Any idea when the race will be over and the lanes reopened?

They won’t hold the runners…they’ll hold the cars until there is an opening in the runners. It starts at 7:30 so everyone will most likely be done by 9.
