by Karen Goff October 12, 2016 at 9:55 am 84 Comments

police lineUpdate, 11:15 a.m. — Fairfax County Police took three suspects into custody at an apartment off of Sycamore Valley Drive. No arrests have been made yet, police said.

Original Story: Fairfax County Police are searching for a suspect in a bank robbery at Reston Town Center Wednesday.

FCPD spokesman Don Gotthardt said a man entered the Wells Fargo Bank at 11911 Freedom Dr. at 9:09 a.m. and demanded money.

“The man implied he had a gun,” said Gotthardt. “He left with an undisclosed amount of money. There were no injuries.”

As of 9:50 a.m., police had set up a perimeter in the streets around town center and were looking for the suspect by air, ground and with K9 units, said Gotthardt.

The suspect was described by witnesses at the bank as a Hispanic male, about 5-foot-7, in his 20s with a goatee. He was wearing a black skullcap and black clothing, witnesses said.

So that’s what where those cops were supposed to be when they were stuck in traffic on Reston Parkway. Hmm…

  • susie

Listening to the nonstop whirl of helicopters circling above – ah Diversity!!

    • Kim

      Very nice Susie!
Maybe we should live in Trumps white world right& stamp out immigrants& diversity?? If it was a white guy you would have said nothing right?

      • susie

But it wasn’t a white guy, was it?

      • Mike M

Demonizing Trump is a little far afield. In fact, this is evidence of the world he publicly observes, and his opposition denies. This stuff DOES happen. It just did. Reality check?

        • Why do you bother?

Yeah, because us lily-white people NEVER commit crimes, right?

          sheesh.

          • Mike M

No. And no one said that. But the proportional crime rates are pretty bad. So, if you have the guts to face truth, maybe you can solve the problem rather than ignore it, you self righteous, self hating puke.

          • Why do you bother?

            Bless your heart….

          • Guest

You add nothing with your name-calling.

      • susie

If you refuse to name them as i l l e gal immigrants, then stop pretending to be an American offended. You are an open borders, no law and order, Globalist. Own it.

        • edward kim

Except nowhere in this article does it state that the “Hispanic male” wearing a black skullcap was an illegal anything. Your low perception of people different than you filled that part in on your own. It’s called xenophobia. Own that.

          • Mike M

Robbing banks is not legal, last time I checked.

          • edward kim

No, it is not. Congratulations for missing the point completely… now back to the topic of illegal immigrants

          • susie

Why do liberals have no sense of humor?

          • Mike M

            Because they have no sense.

            Next question?

          • Why do you bother?

            Because foaming-at-the-mouth racists aren’t funny.

          • Mike M

Remember the Pequots? Perhaps they weren’t “xenophobic” enough?

    • Rai

Just say “i’m a racist” be proud of who you are and your views

      • susie

What a dull response – not worth my time to argue.

        • Guest

I don’t care about your indefensible dog whistle so much, I responded to your comment.

  • whyIoughta

I’m interested in the statistics regarding the ‘value’ of the metro. Depending on where this person lives, and the guy that tried to carjack the lady (with a knife). I suppose that info will be suppressed to be PC.

    • Guest

You know the RTC metro station isn’t opening until 2020, right?

      • whyIoughta

        Wiehle is open, right?

        • Guest

So they followed the road to RTC? What’s your story? Really, I’m interested.

    • Reston

He lives in reston his whole life fool!

  • Mike M

    Ay! Dios mio.

    • Guest

I have lived here since 1970. Can we just be happy nobody was injured and the police caught him. Reston used to be such an awesome place to grow up and live. Lets keep it that way and stop bickering. Simmer down and work together to keep it a great place to live!

      • Mike M

Clown. The past is over. We have issues. Can we have the kahunas to deal with them?

        • Why do you bother?

We don’t have kings, Mike. Perhaps your cojones aren’t so good for thinking….

          • Mike M

I am looking for the reference to kings or even monarchy or anything like that. Throw me a bone?

          • Why do you bother?

A kahuna is a Hawaiian king. Easily googled, btw…

          • Mike M

Thanks. Also means leader in general.

          • Why do you bother?

Right. What it doesn’t mean is “balls.”

          • Mike M

Oh, well, thanks for that. I imagine there are a few other things it is not.

          • Why do you bother?

Good job pretending that you didn’t use “kahuna” when you meant “cojones” in an earlier post….

      • TrollHunter

Try not to fall into the trap of judging the rest of Reston by the comments of a few. As sickening as it is to read the comments by very few of the folks here, it really is just 2 to 3 people who get off on trolling for reactions from the rest of us, makes you wonder whether they have multiple accounts. Maybe their momma dropped them on their head when they was just babies and it’s the only way they can cope with their “issues”.

        • Mike M

Whatever you do, don’t take them on with factual argumentation. Because, . . . you can’t.

        • susie

Curious – who is this illustrious “us” you represent?

  • S

Glad that no one was hurt! Not that there is anything wise about robbing a bank, but a Reston Town Center bank doesn’t seem like a wise target. There are security guards all around, and one would imagine that the grounds are well covered by surveillance cameras. There are also multiple turns required to exit the Town Center, so your get-away after the robbery would not be terribly expedient. On another note, given that this happened at Wells Fargo Bank, one can’t help but wonder if the robber was perhaps a disgruntled customer for whom the Bank opened an unauthorized account, or to whom the bank charged undue fees ;).

  • Chuck Morningwood

So, give a teller a note implying you have a weapon, and the police storm your apartment and take you off to jail, but if, as a commissioned employee, you open accounts without permission of the customers, well, you might get laid off.

    Robbery is robbery.

  • Generic User

Let’s try this again….Glad everybody in the bank is OK, but clearly this wouldn’t have happened if there was pay parking. They never would have validated him.

    • TrollHunter

You’re funny and thank you so much, I really needed the break from trolls Mike and Susie and their hate messages.

      • Mike M

Anyone who shows me where my L-word sensibilities do not square with reality is a hater troll. Do I have that right? Thanks a million.

    • Edward Calvert

Maybe they tracked him by his smartphone GPS navigation system?

  • amytales

In what world is Trump NOT anti-immigrant?!

    • susie

      The real world.

      • amytales

That’s quite funny. I suppose that when he said that Mexican immigrants are criminals and rapists, that was him showing love for immigrants?

        • Guest

Considering Trump’s business practices, leading to a November 28 court date, and his personal history of sexual assault, as clearly stated by him on video … maybe it was?

          • susie

“personal history of sexual assault” – no that’s Clinton.

          • edward kim

No, actually that’s Trump too. He’s about to go to trial for raping a 13 yr old child repeatedly. They’re waiting until after he loses on Nov 8th. Hope that ignorance is keeping you warm at night, susie

          • susie

            You’re sick.

          • edward kim

And you’re delusional. Google is your friend.

          • susie

No – Google is Hillary’s friend.

          • edward kim

I’d pray for you except that you prefer hate mongering

          • susie

You really need to get your prog programming updated. I believe the terms are now “deplorable” and “irredeemable” coined by your child r a p e protecting leader.

          • Guest

Truth bombs about Trump dropping today, susie.

            Hope you found cover.

          • susie

Just in time to distract from all those Wiki Leaks!

          • Guest

I feel you. I too used to love Wikileaks. In the good old days. Now they’re effectively the publicity wing of Putin’s military intelligence and state intelligence groups. And despite subversion by a foreign power wishing to affect US politics, they’ve released nothing substantive.

Assange’s last big press conference was to sell his book.

        • Mike M

He was referring to this guy and his two pals, among others. Any other questions?

          • amytales

He who? Trump? I didn’t see Trump commenting on this particular incident, or giving any criteria for how he would distinguish between subsets of immigrants.

Or did you mean she, as in susie? She herself made the statement, “I was responding to Kim’s post falsely accusing Trump and his supporters of being anti – immigrant.” Therefore, she is making the claim that the accusation that Trump and his supporters are anti-immigrant is false, hence my reply.

          • Mike M

Amy, Amy, Amy. I know you mean well, and you want to be righteous. But Donald Trump was merely acknowledging that with Latin immigration there have been some bad things too. Crime is one. I am telling you this recent robbery is one such example.

          • amytales

Mike, Mike, Mike. If I want to be righteous, I don’t see how you don’t want it too. Trump did not qualify his remarks, as far as I’m aware. He did not limit his comments only to “some.” Again, I am responding to someone else’s claim that Trump is not anti-immigrant. His continued promise to build a wall and have Mexico pay for it doesn’t strike me as very immigrant friendly.

          • Mike M

He doesn’t need to be. He speaks of slowing it down while we get honest with ourselves about the costs. Your righteousness is false and cheap.

          • amytales

Again, I am merely addressing what someone else said. They claimed he is not anti-immigrant. I presented a counter argument. More accurately, Trump has spoken of cutting off immigration completely, but only from certain countries that he doesn’t like. He speaks of deporting people, and requiring potential immigrants to conform to his particular ideology in order to gain entrance. That’s about as un-American as you can get.

          • Why do you bother?

Don’t confuse Mike with the facts – it upsets his equilibrium.

          • susie

Amy – listen very carefully. American Presidents work for Americans. They are elected by Americans. We have many many problems to deal with and catering to immigrants who have no claim to America is not his or her concern.

          • Why do you bother?

So, tell us, Susie – where did YOUR ancestors come from?

          • susie

            Brooklyn NY

          • Why do you bother?

So you are a full-blooded member of an original first-nations tribe?

          • susie

Partly – my great grandfather was a full blood Cherokee.

          • Why do you bother?

Which means that at least some of your ancestors were immigrants.

          • susie

The American president is supposed to protect Americans – he is not obligated to be “immigrant friendly”.

          • amytales

AGAIN, Susie, you claimed Trump is NOT anti-immigrant. I presented arguments to debunk your silly claim. You’re now shifting the goalposts.

          • susie

You are obsessed with immigrants, aren’t you?

          • amytales

            Um, pot meet kettle.

      • Why do you bother?

Susie, sweetheart, pull your head out of your derriere. The fumes are affecting your judgement.

        • susie

So classy – and of course not blocked!

  • Robin Hood Treasuries

Many of the big banks are able to boast stable if not slightly improving credit metrics. This doesn’t make sense considering the explosive growth of real estate development and prices amid an environment of much slower income growth. When comparing income growth to real estate price and rent growth, an obvious bubble seems to appear. The answer seems to lie in financial engineering. Once the credit metrics of the bank’s loan and loan products deteriorate (that is, when the financial alchemy once again fails to turn MBS lead into AAA gold), they will pull back on financing, putting a hard stop brake on inflationary home purchasing, and there goes the bubble pop!

There has never been a time in recorded history when Robin Hood Treasuries have been this inflated in price and this low in yield.

  • RestonYesterday

This is almost as stupid as the guys who tried to rob the Herndon Clocktower Starbucks by holding up the drive thru a few years ago.

    • Edward Calvert

Maybe the mctacohut would’ve been an easier target ??

  • amytales

Riiight, because one person is representative of everyone who looks like he does. That’s some sound logic right there!

  • Ben

Interesting how some are allowed to post politically charged comments on your site but you choose to filter others, especially those from people who have called out your lack of professionalism or have views you disagree with.
