Morning Notes - Winter

Reston 2020 Recaps MediaWorld Meeting — Reston 2020, a local citizens’ group that advocates on community planning, published a lengthy post on its website recapping last week’s Reston Association board meeting on contract negotiations with MediaWorld to review the Tetra/Lake House budget overrun. McAuliffe Proposes Pay Increase for Virginia Teachers, State Workers — Gov. Terry McAuliffe on Tuesday announced that he is proposing a 1.5 percent pay increase that would go into effect for Virginia teachers and state workers beginning in December 2017, if approved by the General Assembly. The merit increase would come with a $130 million price tag. [Reston Patch]

Reston Pastor: Church Attendance Up Since Election Day — Rev. Debra Haffner of Reston’s Unitarian Universalist Church was recently interviewed by The Atlantic about how the atmosphere during her services has become more like “a funeral” since Donald Trump was elected president on Nov. 8, with a significant increase in attendance. Why does Eve Thompson think of RA members as peons to be ignored and certainly not trusted to handle work for RA (unless she hand picks them)???

    Boo hoo hoo. Cry more.

  • Ming the Merciless

Old Christianity = concerned with saving your soul = bad, outmoded

New Christianity = concerned with implementing Leftist political agenda and with finding Biblical justification to do so = good, fashionable

Very well put Mike – I honestly wish I hadn’t taken the time to read the Atlantic article. Five minutes of my life I will never get back.

  • Reston Realist

I think Eve Thompson believes that she is negotiating a real estate contract. The board’s lack of sophistication in this regard is laughable. They either have no clue as to what they are negotiating or are simply trying to kick the can down the road, hoping that we all forget about the Tetra debacle.
