Champps Americana, the large sports bar and restaurant at Reston’s Plaza America, abruptly closed its doors on Wednesday.
“Due to unfortunate circumstances, we have had to make the hard decision to permanently close this location,” a sign posted on the door says. “Champps Reston has been around for 17 years and has formulated so very many unique bonds with the business and suburban community. For this we want to say thank you for supporting us for such a long period and we bid you farewell.”
A skeleton staff was already in place Thursday morning stripping sports memorabilia and flat screen TVs from the walls as a crew removed the outside sign. Management had no comment.
No word yet on what might be going into the very large corner space at Plaza America. Champps is a national chain with three other Virginia locations.
Reston is about to become a crowded sports bar area as Glory Days will open at Northpoint and World of Beer will open at Reston Town Center in 2014.
