Follow-up: Police Catch, Charge Suspects in Traffic Stop That Led to Lockdowns

South Lakes High SchoolA traffic stop in which three young people fled from police caused three Reston schools to go on lockdown Thursday.

Fairfax County Police public information officer Lucy Caldwell said officers stopped a car in the 2100 block of Whisper Way at 12:05 p.m. Three people fled from the car, she said. Police searched for the people on the ground and by helicopter, and South Lakes High School, Langston Hughes Middle School and Terraset Elementary were all briefly place on lockdown, and then secure building mode, until the community’s safety could be determined, Caldwell said.

Schools sent out an email to parents at 1 p.m.

A juvenile female was quickly found, and two male suspects were found shortly afterwards, said Caldwell.

One of the males was charged with an outstanding warrant for unlawful entry and numerous traffic charges. Petitions are pending against the other male, a juvenile, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, Caldwell said.
