This week’s Reston Pet of the Week is Koda, a young hound mix who is in need of a good home. Koda will be at Weber’s Pet Supermarket at Fox Mill Shopping Center as part of a pet adoption event this Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.

Here is what the people at Mutt Love Rescue have to say about him:

Koda is a young, red and white hound weighing about 65 pounds, but that doesn’t stop him from trying to be a lap dog at times.

If you look up sweet and affectionate in the dictionary you might just see a picture of Koda.

Koda is in excellent health, and up to date on all vaccines and is housebroken. He is good with all dogs and also good with cats.

He would love a fenced yard and another dog to play with, but will also snuggle up on the couch in the evenings and hang out with his family.

Are you and Koda a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you $100 in Becky’s Bucks, as well as some treats.

Meet Evan TheCat, this week’s Reston Pet of the Week. Evan is a new Reston resident as he was adopted as an adult earlier this year. Here is what owner Meggie has to say about him:

Evan was adopted earlier this year as an adult cat. His adoption profile described him as a “chunky lover boy.”

His previous owners named him ‘Evan,’ which coincidentally is the same name of his one of his new pet parents. He has been renamed “Evan TheCat” to alleviate some of the confusion but still keeps friends guessing which Evan ate the giant spider in the basement!

Evan TheCat loves being held and has never met a stranger. He watches over his pet parents at night by sleeping on their pillows and even sitting on the shower mat in the morning. After his night watch duties, he monitors the neighborhood through his second-floor window perch. When he sees his pet parents park their car, he zooms to the front door to greet them.

His new parents are very grateful that they were given the chance to adopt this lover boy as he has brought so much joy to their lives. They are working hard to remove ‘chunky’ from his description.

Congrats to Evan TheCat and Meggie, who win $100 in Becky’s Bucks, plus some treats, from our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care.

Meet Sonny, a 3-year-old yellow lab who is looking for a new home. Here is what his foster family and the people at Lab Rescue of LRCP in Fairfax have to say about him:

Sonny is a 3.5-year-old neutered yellow male. He is a handsome, young active dog who likes to get outside to stretch his legs and play. He is very friendly and enjoys being petted. He likes to retrieve and brings it back but sometimes takes the long way.

He needs a home with a fenced yard and an active family that will play with him every day. He is good with other dogs but no cat history. He pulls a bit on lead at first but is better with an Easy Walk Harness.

He loves to play outside but then he can’t wait to come inside and play with the soft toys. He likes to hoard them in his crate. He has no problems going in to the crate and taking a nap. He likes the attention of people! He enjoys being rubbed behind the ears and on his chest. And of course, like most labs, he is very food-driven. He eats fast and takes treats very well.

Are you and Sonny a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you a sample of dog treats and $100 in Becky’s Bucks.

Amanda/Petfinder

Meet Amanda, a domestic longhair adult cat who is in need of a home.

Here is what the people at Fancy Cats Rescue Team have to say about her:

Amanda is a real class clown at our adoption center. She loves attention of any kind, and really enjoys interacting with people.

She loves to play, is a natural climber (a tall cat tree is a must) and is quite chatty too.

She can be temperamental with other cats, and we would say a male would work best if you are considering her as a companion.

Are you and Amanda a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you a sample of dog treats and $100 in Becky’s Bucks.

Meet Oakley, this week’s Reston Pet of the Week. Oakley is a German Shepherd and Lab mix who needs a new home. Here is what the people at
Virginia German Shepherd Rescue, Inc. have to say about him:

Oakley may be small in stature but he has a big personality. He is the perfect companion; a diamond in the “ruff,” and it won’t take much to polish him up.

He has a great mixture of playful and laid back. He loves his toys and carries one around most of the time. He loves to run and is a great jumper (I think he would do great in agility) and can easily clear a three-foot fence from a sit, so he will need to have at least a five-foot fence to ensure that a squirrel or bird don’t entice him to leave the yard. Oakley gets along with other dogs and dog savvy cats. He would do best in a house with another active dog.

Oakley does have a sensitive tummy, which we believe to be a food allergy, however we are working with a vet to find the right food and as of this moment, he is doing great. His new family will need to ensure that Oakley maintains the correct diet to stay healthy and happy!

If you are approved to adopt and interested in Oakley, email [email protected].

Are you and Oakley a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you a sample of dog treats and $100 in Becky’s Bucks.

wilma1

This week’s Reston Pet of the Week is Wilma, a little Beagle puppy who needs a home. Here is what her people at Lucky Dog Animal Rescue have to say about her (in Wilma’s voice — if she could talk):

My siblings and I are going to be making our way to DC soon. You know what would be more awesome than a kong filled with frozen peanut butter? To have a home of my very own when I get there!

I want to spend the fall romping in piles of leaves and snoozing in that last sliver of late afternoon sunshine with my forever family. I get so excited just thinking about it I can’t stop my tail from wagging.

Just remember, I’m an jubilant young gal, so I’ll need someone keeping an eye out for me during the day, so I’m bummed to say if you work a 9-5 job outside the home, I won’t be a good fit for you unless you can commit to hiring a dog walker to come MULTIPLE times a day to visit me.

I wanna grow up to be a well-mannered young lady, so you’ll need to get me some puppy schooling so I can have the absolute best manners.

Wilma will need remaining vaccines and will need to be spayed by January. The cost of the spay will be included in her $350 adoption fee.

The adoption fee for this dog is $350, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and e-mail it to at Tanya at [email protected].

Are you and Wilma a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you a sample of dog treats and $100 in Becky’s Bucks.

Checkers

Meet Checkers, a 1-year-old male Border Collie in need of a home.

Here is what the people at Blue Ridge Border Collie Rescue have to say about him.

Checkers is a beautiful young Border Collie (could be a mix). He is mostly white, with a deep auburn face and auburn spots. Checkers was picked up as a stray in DC and ended up in the shelter. His owners were contacted but they elected not to keep him. He was highly stressed in the kennel at the shelter and stayed laying in a corner so a nice lady at the shelter contacted us.

When I brought him home a week ago, he was stressed at first, but has settled in nicely. Checkers is easy to live with, he is sweet, smart and good looking! He wants to be at your side. He bonded quickly and wants to be close to his person.

Checkers is relaxed in the house. No reaction to normal household items (vacuum, dishwasher, etc.). He has a high environmental confidence and will step on or nose novel objects without hesitation. He has barked a couple times when he heard noises outside, but recovered within seconds. Outside, at night, he has barked at strange noises and neighbors talking. At first, he was unsure of crates and since he had just been neutered and was on crate rest, I’ve been working on feeding him in the crate and now he will go into the crate when asked. Checkers likes toys, but leave other things alone. When I leave he whines a bit, but settles down nicely. He has been wonderful with my dogs and ignores cats.

Checkers is a high-energy young dog who needs a home where he will get lots of exercise. While he is a sweet dog, he would probably not be the right dog with small children. He would make a great agility dog.

To start the adoption process, please fill out an application on our website at www.BRBCR.org and then contact Sue at [email protected]. All potential adopters are required to have a home inspection prior to placement of one of our rescues. Checkers’ adoption fee is $250.

Are you and Checkers a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you a sample of dog treats and $100 in Becky’s Bucks.

Chamber spotlight

Reston Chamber Spotlight is a feature by members of the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce. It does not reflect the opinion of Reston Now. Today’s spotlight is on marketing firm Conversion Pipeline and its CEO Michael Delpierre.

Reston Now: Why did you decide to start your business in Reston?

Michael Delpierre, CEO of Conversion Pipeline/Courtesy Conversion PipelineMD: Reston is a centralized location for business in Northern Virginia. Also, it’s location is central for finding skilled employees.

RN: What are the challenges and rewards of being a business owner?

MD: Rewards are:

  • Helping other companies meet/exceed their revenue goals
  • Personal reward of helping create business growth
  • Overall sense of achievement
  • Building a company with great people is the most rewarding experience I have had

Challenges:

  • You do NOT have a lot of free time.
  • Work never ends. So long to the 9-to-5 jobs. Weekend work is the norm for our industry.
  • Finding new employees that are skilled in digital marketing is hard because colleges do not prepare students to succeed in digital marketing.

RN: Name something about your business that most people don’t know.

MD: I served for 6 years in the United States Marine Reserve, so we are a veteran-owned business. Also, Harry Brooks, our CMO, worked for an major Internet Registrar and has given over 200+ presentation on SEO & Google AdWords He is our go-to presenter. He is a a complete digital rockstar.

Conversion PipelineRN: What do you offer your clients that makes you unique?

MD: Digital marketing has become completely transparent. We utilize conversion goal and call tracking solutions so we can tell our clients down to the dollar what their return on investment it.

Most companies spend marketing and advertising dollars without truly knowing what their ROI is. We provide our clients with a platform that allows us to discuss where and how much they should spend on specific advertising campaigns based on actual data.

Digital Marketing has and will keep on surpassing other traditional advertising paths.

RN: How has the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce helped your business grow?

MD: I view the Chamber as a partner. We have held many joint seminars, the last one being a seminar where we had Google present to a group of 20+ small business owners and marketer on the benefits of AdWords. We utilized our partnership with Google and with the Chamber to put on a great event, which benefits the local business community and raises our visibility within the community.

I started out volunteering in the Communications committee, now I am the co-chair of that committee. Shortly thereafter, I joined the Board of Directors and have been active within the chamber ever since.

My company sponsors events because we believe in the Chamber’s mission and love to have our brand next to other great chamber members.

RN: What is the quote that best describes your business?

MD: I never thought of defining my business with a quote. Digital Marketing is constantly evolving so the old cliché “You Grow Or Die” is probably the most applicable.

RN: What is your advice to someone who is thinking about owning a business?

MD: You have to look around and at your competition, if you think you can do it better than them, offer a superior product/service and have a good time doing it, then GO FOR IT! I thought to myself, I didn’t want to be 75 years of age looking back saying “What If”… that would crush me.

Meet two feline siblings named Juni and Carmen, our Reston Pets of the Week. Here is what owner Mitchell has to say about them:

Our family cats named Juni and Carmen, Named after Juni and Carmen Cortez from the Spy Kids Movies, our daughter’s idea. They are brother and sister cats we picked up from a pet adoption center.

The cats are extremely close, when there not with each other they are with you, always with their paw on you, I guess making sure you don’t get away.

Carmen is the well-behaved one, Juni likes to get into trouble and is the most needy. She always has to be with someone or his sister. Carmen is the hunter, when not with you or her brother she is hunting for bugs in the house. She is fast, smart and calculating — she can leap midair and get one that is flying, then her brother then tries to eat it. He likes to eat!

Meet dog siblings Cheyanne and Liffey, our Reston Pets of the Week. Here is what owner Jill has to say about them:

Cheyanne (13-year-old Cattledog mix) and Liffey (4-year-old Yellow Lab mix) are both rescues.

I’ve had Cheyanne for over 10 years now and she has been a loyal companion and nurtured me through many of life’s milestones.

As Cheyanne was getting older, I wanted to provide her with a companion and I knew my home was ready for another dog. Enter Liffey. About three years ago, Liffey was found living in the woods near the point of starvation. She had never been in a home or around people or even on a leash.

Liffey needed a lot of love, TLC and training.  Cheyanne is been a stellar role model and sister. She has played a pivotal role in Liffey’s transition from a skittish and timid dog to the wacky and silly girl that she is today. In turn, Liffey has given Cheyanne someone to boss around the house, which pleases her immensely.

These two provide me with endless joy, laughter and love. I truly believe that our pets come into our lives for a reason and I’m so grateful for all of the lessons these furry wonders have given me over the years.
