Police Seek Person Who Shot at Cruiser — Someone shot at a police car last night on Georgetown Pike, and law enforcement is seeking the culprit. The incident happened around midnight in the area of Walker Road. The suspect’s vehicle may have been a white Toyota or Mazda from the late 1990s or early 2000s, with black molding on the doors. The passenger-side window may have been shattered. The car was last seen traveling westbound on Georgetown Pike in the Great Falls area. [NBC Washington]

Herndon Family of Six Displaced By House Fire — Fire officials say a passerby alerted a Herndon family to a fire in their Van Buren Street home Friday afternoon. Apparently, the home’s smoke detectors were not equipped with batteries. The fire, the source of which was electrical, caused almost $70,000 in damage. [Fairfax County Fire and Rescue]

Reston Community Players Show Has Successful Opening — “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” opened Friday on the CenterStage at the Reston Community Center at Hunters Woods (2310 Colts Neck Road). A reviewer says the show, which runs through Feb. 4, is a “fine production” with an “excellent cast.” [DC Metro Theater Arts]

Photos by Traci J. Brooks PhotographyThe Reston Community Players are setting the stage to present their latest production, the Tony Award-winning play “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.”

The show opens Friday, Jan. 20 and runs through Saturday, Feb. 4. Performances are scheduled to take place on the CenterStage at the Reston Community Center at Hunters Woods (2310 Colts Neck Road).

The play, written by Christopher Durang, centers around Vanya and Sonia, middle-aged siblings who live happily together in rural Pennsylvania. But when their other sister, a B-list Hollywood star named Masha, shows up unexpectedly with her latest boyfriend, Spike, she tries to draw them into a kooky plan that inevitably upends their previously quiet life.

The cast of the Reston production includes Andrew JM Regiec as Vanya, Lee Slivka as Sonia, Joanne Maylone as Masha and Will MacLeod as Spike. The production is directed by Tel Monks, and it is produced by Bea and Jerry Morse.

Evening performances of “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” are set to take place Jan. 20, 21, 27 and 28, and Feb. 3 and 4, at 8 p.m. A matinee performance is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. Read More

Grammy Award-winning singer Kathy Mattea and her longtime collaborator, guitarist Bill Cooley, will bring their “The Acoustic Living Room” show to Reston Community Center’s CenterStage on Sept. 17 (8 p.m.)

Says RCC:

The two have shared one of Nashville’s most musically rich partnerships for over two decades. The duo meets as old friends, welcoming you into The Acoustic Living Room to share songs and stories near and dear to their hearts — including Kathy’s beloved classics such as 18 Wheels and a Dozen Roses, Where’ve You Been? and many other hits.

Mattea, who has released 18 albums, will play a variety of her music, all reinterpreted for the duo format.

Tickets are now on sale on RCC’s website. Cost: $25 for Reston residents and employees/$35 for non-residents.

Persistent Voices dance/Courtesy RCCThe impact of AIDS in our society will be explored through dance, poetry and visual design at Reston Community Center’s CenterStage Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Persistent Voices by the Dakshina/Daniel Phoenix Singh Dance Company combines choreography and thought-provoking poetry to explore the effect of AIDS in our lives.

The performance is inspired by the anthology Persistent Voices: Poetry by Writers Lost to AIDS, which includes the work of eight DC poets whose lives and creativity will be celebrated through this performance.

The performance is choreographed by Daniel Phoenix Singh. The Dakshina/Daniel Phoenix Singh Dance Company is a National Performance Network (NPN) Creation Fund Project co-commissioned by Dance Place in partnership with Kala Vandanam Dance Company and NPN.

In the first half of the performance, Dakshina presents an excerpt that showcases Singh’s unique vision combining modern and Bharata Natyam movement. Dakshina presents a work choreographed by the esteemed danseuse Rama Vaidyanathan from India on one of Dakshina’s principal dancers Sudha Radhakrishnan.

Tickets are $15 for Reston residents; $30 for non-residents and are available online.
