by RestonNow.com Sponsor — August 16, 2017 at 1:30 pm 0

This is a sponsored post from Becky’s Pet Care, a professional pet care service in Northern Virginia.

Meet Autumn, a young Norwich Terrier available for adoption.

Here is what her friends at Safe Haven Puppy Rescue have to say about her:

Autumn is a sweet 1-year-old Norwich Terrier girl who loves playing with her toys and her canine and human friends here at the rescue. She’s affectionate, outgoing, and adorable! Just look at that face!

Everyone who meets Autumn loves her, from her spunky wire brindle coat down to those big brown eyes and sweet personality.

Autumn is up to date on her shots and has been spayed.

She really does have it all, except for a forever home — but not for long! Will you be her “perfect match?” If so, contact your coordinator, Nicole, for an application.

Are you and Autumn a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Pet of the Week: Sis

by RestonNow.com Sponsor — August 9, 2017 at 10:15 am 0

This is a sponsored post from Becky’s Pet Care, a professional pet care service in Northern Virginia.

Meet Sis, an English Setter available for adoption.

Here is what her friends at Safe Haven Puppy Rescue have to say about her:

Sis is a gorgeous girl with a silky coat who is very inquisitive and interested in her surroundings. She’s affectionate to people and “mostly” comes when called. She gets along really good with other dogs.

Sis was owned by a hunter, who wanted her to be his hunting dog. Sis had other ideas. Her idea of life is to go for walks with her human, have a comfy doggie bed, and get lots of cuddles and kisses.

She’s a neat size — around 40 pounds, and walks nicely on a leash, but is still a little unsure with things like steps, etc., and hasn’t quite grasped that it’s actually OK for her to be inside. A little love and she’ll be an absolute prize.

If you think you can give this regal girl the kind of home she was born to have, please email [email protected] for an application.

Are you and Sis a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Anna, along with her sisters Alice and Alyssa, are gorgeous little Labrador mix babies of maybe 10 weeks old. She has a beautiful yellow coloring and is going to make a terrific companion.

All three of these pups have happy, friendly dispositions and will be great family dogs. Anna is a sweet, affectionate girl who would like nothing better than a family of her own so she could share her store of Labbie love.

Pet of the Week: Nico

by RestonNow.com — July 26, 2017 at 1:30 pm 3 Comments

This is a sponsored post from Becky’s Pet Care, a professional pet care service in Northern Virginia.

This week’s Reston Pet of the Week is Nico, now living in Reston after being brought up in Arizona.

Here is what his owner, Raj, had to say about him:

Meet Nico, a 10 ½-year-old Lhasa Apso, Miniature Poodle, Chihuahua and German Shepherd mix. You might take a look at Nico’s photos and wonder if this mix is possible, but he definitely has some German Shepherd in him. (In fact, he is 12.5 percent Alsatian according to a DNA test!)

Nico has led quite an uphill life. He was found as a little puppy running around on the streets of the Arizona-Mexico border. We saw him at the rescue shelter the day after he was brought in and adopted him immediately. He soon got accustomed to comfortable living. Everything was going great until after Nico turned 8, when his vet said that he needed to have neck surgery right away to remove fluid from his spine that was causing him a lot of pain whenever he moved. He was a very good boy through the difficult ordeal and came out healthier than ever!

Nico is now proud to call Reston his new home and is already enjoying the smells and sounds. His favorite activity — other than laying on the cool floor during the dog days of the Northern Virginia summer — is watching the golfers at Reston National.

Pet of the Week: Shelly

by RestonNow.com Sponsor — July 5, 2017 at 11:30 am 0

This is a sponsored post from Becky’s Pet Care, a professional pet care service in Northern Virginia.

This week’s Reston Pet of the Week is Shelly, a Golden Retriever rescue from Tennessee.

Here is what her owner, Laura, had to say about her:

Shelly is an approximately 8-year-old Golden Retriever who was rescued from Tennessee. Her owners did not take care of her and she was hit by a car, resulting in her losing use of a back leg and being left at a shelter. However, the injury hasn’t slowed her down one bit!

Since adoption in 2014 from Adopt a Golden Knoxville, Shelly has added so much to our lives. A true “Velcro Golden”, all she wants is to be with her family. As a new resident of Reston, she is absolutely loving her big backyard. Most days are spent sitting outside in a patio chair (her favorite!) next to Dad who works from home. When she’s not relaxing on the deck, Shelly can be found patrolling the yard for squirrels and chipmunks with her Chihuahua sister, Mitzi.

This is a sponsored post from Becky’s Pet Care, a professional pet care service in Northern Virginia.

This week’s Reston Pets of the Week are Wrangler and Blue, a pair of dogs who love to cuddle.

Here is what their owner, Kelly, had to say about them:

Wrangler and Blue are sisters residing in Reston. They are the best foster sisters around and help dogs with Lucky Dog Animal Rescue find forever homes.

Blue is a 4-year-old Bay Retriever mix and loves to get attention from any human she can and steal her sister’s tennis balls for a good game of chase. She is an avid swimmer and love hiking and going on walks and runs.

Wrangler is a 2-year-old Pit Bull/American Bulldog mix. She is obsessed with playing fetch and is also really into anything water-related. She works hard to end breed discrimination by being a certified therapy dog through Pet Partners. We work with the Heeling House and kids with special needs.

They are big-time Steelers fans and sport their jerseys on Sundays. At the end of the day, Blue and Wrangler are happy to cuddle up on top of one another for a much-needed cuddle puddle.

Pet of the Week: Kevin

by RestonNow.com Sponsor — June 21, 2017 at 1:30 pm 2 Comments

This is a sponsored post from Becky’s Pet Care, a professional pet care service in Northern Virginia.

This week’s Reston Pet of the Week is Kevin, a kitten with a unique name.

Here is what her owner, Mark, had to say about her:

Kevin, just shy of being one year old, is female. My girlfriend and I clearly weren’t paying attention in anatomy class so many years ago. Kevin doesn’t care, though; she still responds to her name and saunters around the house like she would with any other name.

Kevin is a die-hard Orioles fan, often catching games with me on TV, but she’s pretty pessimistic about their playoff chances this year. When she gets heated about the games, I like to massage her back and neck and remind her that this is our burden to bear as Orioles fans.

Kevin reminds me a lot of myself, to be honest: she’s a bit shy in the face of change, but adapts well. We just moved into a three-level townhouse, which is quite the upgrade over the cramped condo we lived in before. It took Kevin a few days to venture out of the basement, but she’s up and running around now, chasing any insects that flutter their way into the house, and cuddling with us when we get home from work.

She holds a huge piece of my heart, and I’d have it no other way. She’s my baby kitty.

Pet of the Week: Ty

by RestonNow.com Sponsor — June 14, 2017 at 11:30 am 5 Comments

This is a sponsored post from Becky’s Pet Care, a professional pet care service in Northern Virginia.

This week’s Reston Pet of the Week is Ty, a Jack Russell Terrier.

Here is what his owner, John, had to say about him:

Ty is a Jack Russell Terrier and a New York transplant who loves chasing chasing tennis balls, foxes and digging holes in the ground near our home in South Reston.

He loves hanging out with his two human sisters, Maya and Sienna. He is an affectionate and loving dog whose owners love him. He has also never met a stranger who he hasn’t licked.

He spends his time chasing squirrels, playing with frogs and digging holes in our front and backyard. He is also a huge Michigan football fan, as evidenced by his collar.

He is 12 years old, but plays like a puppy (sometimes looks like one too when he has a haircut) and has a heart of gold.

Pet of the Week: Baloo

by RestonNow.com Sponsor — June 7, 2017 at 1:15 pm 2 Comments

This is a sponsored post from Becky’s Pet Care, a professional pet care service in Northern Virginia.

Meet Baloo, a deaf Pitbull currently in foster care in the Reston area through City Dogs Rescue.

Here is what his foster moms have to say about him:

Meet Baloo. This gorgeous stud is a 2-year-old deaf white pit mix, but the truth of the matter is that he is 60 pounds of marshmallow. Baloo hails from Pickens County, South Carolina, where he was an unclaimed stray. His life goal is to find a family who loves the outdoors, snuggling and naps.

Baloo is an excellent house dog! He is well house-trained and loves looking out the window to see what’s going on in the world. He loves humans, getting petted, snuggling while watching movies, and is good in his crate. When he wants to go outside, he simply stands by the door and waits. Baloo rarely barks. He loves playtime — with other dogs, with space to run and sniff, with toys and, especially, chasing a laser pointer. His Achilles’ heel is toys; he is toy possessive, and should not play with other dogs and toys simultaneously. Like a true gentleman, he is patient with humans of all ages; recent months have seen him stabbed in the nose by a hoard of toddlers and the noble Baloo endured it with grace.

Many people have questions about Baloo being deaf. A common one is, “How deaf is he?” Answer: All the way deaf. Baloo makes up for it by sniffing every nook and cranny of a new space. He is also incredibly smart and very focused on his humans. He understands 11 signs: Sit, stay, lie down, paw, stop, yay, Baloo, walk, eat, play and crate. This guy is quick-to-train and loves learning new commands and signs. In his free time, Baloo likes to relax and goof off. He sometimes licks the air for no reason, gets into mischief by opening tupperware, chases his tail, stalks and pounces on spots of refracted light, and lays down frog-leg style on air vents to enjoy the breeze.

If you think you and Baloo are a match, put in an application with City Dogs Rescue. Let us know if you make him part of your home and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Pet of the Week: Snyder

by RestonNow.com Sponsor — May 31, 2017 at 1:45 pm 0

This is a sponsored post from Becky’s Pet Care, a professional pet care service in Northern Virginia.

Meet Snyder, an Abyssinian and Domestic Short Hair mix available for adoption.

Here is what his friends at Little Buddies Adoption and Humane Society have to say about him:

Snyder is just the most wonderful of cats. Even the vet commented on what a great cat he is!

He primarily looks like an Abyssinian, although he has a few tabby markings on his face and tail. Officially, he would be called a Tabyssinian.

Like most Abyssinians, Snyder likes to have company. He wants to be around people. Snyder also loves other cats. He would prefer a home where is he not left alone for long periods. Also, like most Abyssinians, Snyder is slender, but muscular. He is an active cat. Abyssinians are also known to be very smart!

Come meet this terrific young man. He is about a year old.

Are you and Snyder a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Pet of the Week: Skeeter

by RestonNow.com Sponsor — May 24, 2017 at 1:30 pm 0

This is a sponsored post from Becky’s Pet Care, a professional pet care service in Northern Virginia.

Meet Skeeter, a Bichon Frise and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix available for adoption.

Here is what his friends at Safe Haven Puppy Rescue have to say about him:

This little guy has it all!!!! Skeeter is the sweetest, friendliest little guy — just a WONDERFUL boy!!! He was an owner surrender and they have had him since he was a puppy. He is now 5 years old. The family purchased Skeeter from a breeder so we know his breed and age exactly. We can’t believe someone could give up their family member like this, but their circumstances changed and they are now traveling for extended periods of time so they made this decision.

The good news is that they have taken good care of Skeeter, and he is very well socialized. He LOVES children, other dogs and cats too. Skeeter hasn’t met a walking, breathing being that he does not love! He is also housetrained. Sound like the perfect doggie for you? Let us know and we’ll send an application! Skeeter’s adoption fee is $395

Email [email protected] for an application!

Pet of the Week: Jackie

by RestonNow.com Sponsor — May 17, 2017 at 1:30 pm 0

This is a sponsored post from Becky’s Pet Care, a professional pet care service in Northern Virginia.

Meet Jackie, a Boxer and Labrador Retriever mix available for adoption.

Here is what her friends at Boxer Rescue and Adoption Inc. have to say about her:

Jackie has come a long way since she came into rescue. She was so afraid of everything, but now is far more outgoing. She loves taking walks, but needs some training in walking nicely without pulling.

Jackie takes treats gently, loves attention, is crate trained and housebroken. She is a pretty girl who loves being in the yard with us and enjoys her creature comforts when inside. She has a nice soft blanket that she snuggles into.

When our volunteer first started walking her, she had her tail tucked, but now, she’s just full of enthusiasm to be out and about. She is not a fence jumper or a digger and does like other dogs. We’re not sure about cats, though. She would probably be too much for toddlers.

If you are interested in meeting Jackie or any of our other rescues, please email [email protected] for an adoption application and arrange to visit Jackie or any of our other rescues.

Are you and Jackie a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Pet of the Week: Pumpkin

by RestonNow.com Sponsor — May 10, 2017 at 1:30 pm 0

This is a sponsored post from Becky’s Pet Care, a professional pet care service in Northern Virginia.

Meet Pumpkin, a 11-month-old Cattle Dog mixed puppy available for adoption.

Here is what her friends at Australian Cattle Dog Rescue Association (ACDRA) have to say about Pumpkin:

Pumpkin is full of energy and is looking for someone to show him the world. He needs a lot of socialization and training. He learns quickly and is eager to please, play, love, cuddle, climb on you, bite, chew, and jump. He walks pretty well on leash, except when he sees a squirrel. He tends to get over-excited over squirrels and bikes and is afraid of children, especially when they are running and riding bikes.

I don’t think cats and young children would like to live with him at all. However, adults and possibly older children who don’t mind a little dog lovingly climbing up on you for hugs and kisses and biting you out of pure joy will have a blast living with this little beast. But seriously, he will need some socialization work, he has not been exposed to many things. He learns quickly and has learned to sit and look at me for treats when he sees something freaky instead of running and lunging at it. He just needs some extra introductions and practice meeting new things in an appropriate manner. Once you have the socialization and housebreaking covered, you will have an awesome, fun, beautiful, little, orange dog. And you two will bond and grow together during your epic journey through a teenage puppy year or two.

Anyone who may be interested in adopting Pumpkin is invited to fill out an ACDRA application and then contact Adam at [email protected]. ACDRA staff members want to know about your experience with cattle dogs, your plans on how to exercise your new family member, and any training experience. They would also like to hear that you don’t plan on exposing a cat or other small creatures in your home.

Are you and Pumpkin a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.
