Pet of the Week: Gus

Meet Gus, a male Coonhound, Treeing Walker/Bloodhound available for adoption locally.

Here is what his friends at NOVA Pets Alive have to say about him:

Gus the goof is a cartoon dog personified. He is 1.5 years old and 70 lbs, full of silliness and love and has no idea how to enter a room gracefully.

This cutie captures the hearts of everyone he meets. He loves to play with dogs, is scared of cats and will let them run the house, and has a blast running around with kids.

Gus is a giant puppy looking for a home to love him and appreciate him for who he is — a gentle giant with coordination issues. You can apply to adopt Gus at novapetsalive.org/adopt!

Are you and Gus a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Pet of the Week: Abby

Meet Abby, a black Border Collie Labrador mix available for adoption locally.

Here is what her friends at Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation have to say about her:

Abby is an active Lab/Border Collie mix looking for a family who can satisfy her need for adventure.

She loves anything that lets her burn off some energy. Whether it’s an hour at the dog park or a day-long hiking adventure in the mountains, she is always down for a good time. She knows basic commands and has done well in play group.

Abby would love to find a family who can give her the attention she deserves. She would benefit from an experienced home with no young children. So, if you think you can keep up with this energetic, awesome girl, she’d love to meet you!

Are you and Abby a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Meet Zema, a young tricolor Beagle available for adoption locally.

Here is what her friends at Beagle Rescue Education and Welfare Inc have to say about her:

Zema is a 2-year-old spayed beagle mix.

We discovered she loves her humans, but we think she would do better in a home with no other dogs. She doesn’t like other dogs competing for snuggle time!

She is a true adventuress who is supremely happy riding around in the car or hiking in the woods.

Are you and Zema a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Meet Vixey, a young black Domestic Short Hair female available for adoption locally.

Here is what her friends at Little Buddies Adoption and Humane Society have to say:

A sweet kitten. She has really come out of her shell in the last few weeks.

She came to Little Buddies a painfully shy little girl. It could be thanks to the charm of her fellow foster, Sleeve, or just growing up a bit.

She is much playful and very active. She enjoys running, leaping and pouncing her foster mate as well as simply entertaining herself with a toy.

She is not one to be held but she is affectionate — just on her terms — after play time.

Vixey has an absolutely stunning, shiny black coat (these photos do not capture it). It is no wonder black cats have been revered for centuries around the world.

Are you and Vixey a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Meet Carly, a brown and white Pit Bull mix available for adoption locally.

Here is what her friends at Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation have to say about her:

Carly is a mini pittie with a zest for life! If you’re looking for a companion who will help keep you on your exercise plan, Carly is more than happy to ensure you stay motivated!

Carly loves to run around in playgroups with her doggie friends to help burn off her energy. She is already mastering the leash and is happy to go for miles and miles! But she is also happy to stop for petting breaks! Carly is very smart and knows “sit” with clear potential for learning more skills.

Carly is a sweet girl who just wants to make the most of life in every possible second. Seize the day with Carly and make her the latest adorable addition to your life today!

Are you and Carly a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Meet Roxy, a brown female Weimaraner mix available fro adoption locally.

Here is what her foster family has to say about her:

Roxy is a sweet, affectionate gal and champion snuggler. She loves to run and play and adores toys, fetching balls and playing tug of war with her humans or canine siblings, but she’s also great at just relaxing and hanging out. She is a loyal companion who loves her people, always following them around and wanting to give hugs and kisses.

At the end of the day, she just wants to be with you on the couch or bed (and she has some truly hysterical sleeping positions!). Whether she’s snuggling up to her favorite person or playing with her fellow pups, this cutie has a great time. She’s incredibly smart, trainable and responsive to her name and correction, and she already knows words like “sit,” “stay,” “wait,” “look,” “leave it”, “find it”, “drop it”, “hug”, “place”, “down”, “off”, “crate”, “touch” and “come.” She is house trained and crate trained, although she’s so well behaved, she is rarely crated.

The best environment for Roxy would be a single family home with a fenced in yard in a quiet neighborhood. She finds the whole world extremely exciting and tends to get overwhelmed by a lot of stimulation. Therefore, she’d do best in a quieter suburban area where this is less action (apartment living would not be a good fit for Roxy). She could also do a townhome in a quiet neighborhood with a small yard (this is where she is now). She’d love to have a canine sibling, that is average energy and chill (she couldn’t do good with a dominant dog), but would also do okay as only dog, as long as she is adequately exercised.

Roxy gets a little nervous meeting new people, so this needs to be managed. Her excitement can sometimes be a little noisy at first, but she settles quickly and then wants to be everyone’s best friend. Young kids, however, make her especially nervous, so we recommend a home with no kids under 10.

Everyone that meets Roxy falls in love… however, she has only gotten applications from people in apartments or with small children, so she’s been in foster care for a year with no good fit. Could you use some Roxy in your life? She promises lots of love to whoever will love her.

Roxy also has her own Instagram @roxylotsoflove and can be found on Facebook.

Are you and Roxy a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Meet Harley, a white/cream Great Pyrenees male available for adoption locally.

Here is what his friends at National Great Pyrenees Rescue have to say about him:

Harley is an adult Great Pyrenees couch potato who gives a great Pyr Paw. This boy has great house manners and is content to take naps and hang with his person.

Harley thinks his hair cut is cute but wants us to tell you that it will grow back long and beautiful to look like the regal boy he is inside! Harley was so matted, cutting his hair was the only way to remove them. Harley prefers to go outside to do his business and then come right back in the house.

Harley is currently living with other dogs but would be content to be an only dog or perhaps a companion for a senior dog. He loves attention and would not be sad if he had somebody to pet him all day long! Harley will play with other dogs and his people and is gentle and well-behaved. He was very gentle when he met a child who came to visit. Like most Great Pyrenees, Harley will bark at a leaf when it tries to attack!

Are you and Harley a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Pet of the Week: Romeo

Meet Romeo, an adult male Domestic Short Hair available for adoption locally.

Here is what his friends at Little Buddies Adoption and Humane Society have to say:

Romeo was rescued from the outdoors. The vet estimated him to be around 5 years old. He tested positive for FIV and requires an indoor only home.

Romeo is a very sweet boy who enjoys playing with his toy mice; greets his mom when she comes home, follows her around the house and sleeps in bed with her all night. He is talkative, loves attention and purrs often. He will make a great pet in a home without small children or elderly.

When first rescued, Romeo was unsure of people and liked to unexpectedly swat. However, he has made remarkable progress and has become more acceptable of being picked up and petted. Still, it is recommended that Romeo be adopted by someone who understands cats that have a touch temperament. Romeo is handsome and incredibly lovable.

Are you and Romeo a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Pet of the Week: Shane

Becky's Pet Care

Meet Shane, a male grey & white Domestic Short Hair mix available for adoption locally.

Here is what his friends at Little Buddies Adoption and Humane Society have to say about him:

Shane is a gentle gem. His ideal home is quiet and calm where he can curl up with you. Be careful though, he can be a blanket hog!

Strikingly good looks and a friendly demeanor, he was found in a feral group at the Shenandoah University, Winchester campus.

We think he was abandoned there. Won’t you restore his faith in humans and bring home with you?

Are you and Shane a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Pet of the Week: Titan

Becky's Pet Care

Meet Titan, a black and white American Bulldog mix available for adoption locally.

Here is what his friends at Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation have to say about him:

Titan is the top athlete at Lost Dog! He is 100 percent muscle and 1,000 percent love. Titan is looking for a loving home to call his own.

He is a friendly guy who is excited to meet new people, go on long walks and snuggle. He’s just a great guy. Titan is house trained and walks well on a leash. Titan is picky with his dog friends, but when he finds ones he likes, he will run, romp and wrestle for hours.

Titan may be very athletic, but he is a total love bug! He loves to lay on legs and laps. He also loves to adorably stretch out on the couch upside down in funny positions and makes himself so comfortable that he starts snoring. It’s hard not to fall in love with this sweet boy!

Are you and Titan a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Pet of the Week: Sirius

Becky's Pet Care

Meet Sirius, a black male Pit Bull available for adoption locally.

Here is what his friends at Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation have to say about him:

Harry Potter’s Sirius Black knew a thing or two about magic, but this Sirius has everyone at Lost Dog Rescue under his spell.

He is definitely one of our favorites! Not only is he super handsome, but he is so well mannered and walks fabulously on a leash. And look at how big he smiles when he’s getting a hug from his human friend — he loves hugs!

Sirius has had an incredible journey from living all alone for over a year in an abandoned structure that didn’t even have a roof to get to where he is today. (Read more about it here!) Sirius has won over our hearts — will you let him into your heart and home?

Are you and Sirius a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Pet of the Week: Desmond

Becky's Pet Care

Meet Desmond, a male Hound available for adoption locally.

Here is what his friends at Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation have to say about him:

Don’t let Desmond’s age fool you… it’s just a number! This sweet boy can do zoomies in the yard with the best of them. Desmond can be a little shy when first meeting new people, but once he gets to know you he is full of love and snuggles.

He has great leash manners and loves to go for long walks through the park. He’s also thrilled to go on car rides and loves to stick his head out the window! You’ll make Desmond’s day if a car ride involves a stop at Starbucks for a puppuccino (aka a cup of some sweet, sweet whipped cream)!

While Desmond has been friendly and playful with most female dogs we’ve introduced him to, he is not a fan of other male dogs, and is looking to be your one and only pet in a quiet, adult-only home.

Desmond’s adoption fee has been sponsored! One of his fans has pre-paid his adoption fee, so his new family won’t have to.

Are you and Desmond a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Pet of the Week: Oshie

Becky's Pet Care

Meet Oshie, a brown and white Pit Bull mix available for adoption locally.

Here’s what his friends at Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation have to say:

Oshie is smiley, sweet and loves naps!

Oshie loves playing with all kinds of toys and when he’s not playing he’s sleeping. He is such a cuddle bug! He doesn’t like to be surprised, so slow movements are a must. But once he is comfortable he loves all the love he can get.

Oshie likes treats and knows “sit” and “come.” As for exercise, he’s mostly a lazy pup with some spurts of energy. He gets a little excited when he sees birds and squirrels, but is overall good on the leash.

Oshie is crate trained, and can be trusted alone in the home while his family is at work as long as he’s in the crate. He has had no accidents in his foster mom’s house and sleeps through the night in bed with her.

He has been joining doggie playgroups while at Lost Dog and has a great time! He does play rough and it is good to keep a close eye on him. Still, Oshie would likely do best in an adults-only home where he can be the only dog so that his family can give him all the undivided attention he deserves.

Come meet this love bug today!

Are you and Oshie a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Meet Coal and Lacey, a black male Labrador and a female Pit Bull mixed breed available for adoption locally.

Here’s what their friends at Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation have to say:

Coal and his buddy Lacey are like peanut butter and jelly, gin and tonic or Bert and Ernie — you just simply can’t have one without the other!

Coal’s two loves in life are Lacey and tennis balls! He plays fetch like a pro and is a complete gentleman bringing the ball back and dropping it right at your feet. Lacey loves rolling in grass, playing with toys, head scratches and Sunday morning strolls in good company.

Coal and Lacey are well-mannered house guests and good with small children. They get along with some other dogs, but would really prefer to be the only two in the home. Coal and Lacey are great walking companions, travel well in the car and are perfect on the leash.

Coal and Lacey lost their lifetime home when their owner passed away and have not yet found the right fit in a new home. This incredibly special duo and bonded pair are looking for a final, forever home where they can grow old together feeling safe and loved.

Coal and Lacey are so beloved that their adoption will be FREE thanks to a member of the Coal and Lacey fan club who couldn’t keep them in their home, but wanted to help them find their final forever home!

Are you, Coal and Lacey a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.
