Two roads in the Reston area are closed due to flooding, according to tweets from the Fairfax County Police Department.

Hunter Mill Road between Hunting Crest Lane and Mount Sunapee Road closed shortly before 4 p.m. today.

Fox Mill Road between Folkstone Drive and Thoroughbred Road in Herndon closed around 2 p.m.

Police advise locals to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

A Flood Watch is in effect for Fairfax County and surrounding areas until midnight, according to the National Weather Service.

Updated at 9:45 — Police say the road opened back up around 9:42 a.m. Crews are on their way to treat the icy conditions on the road.

Earlier: Frying Pan Road is closed near Sunrise Valley Drive shortly after 9 a.m., according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

“A traffic crash with icy conditions” caused the closure, an FCPD tweet says.

Police ask locals to avoid the area and find an alternate route.

Great Falls road now open — A fallen tree closed Walker Road for most of yesterday. The road opened back up sometime before 10 p.m., according to a list tracking the status of road closures. [Fairfax County Police Department]

Updated at 8:45 a.m. — The road opened back up sometime before 10 p.m., according to FCPD. 

Earlier: A fallen tree at 715 Walker Road currently has the Great Falls road closed as strong winds threaten to create hazards across Fairfax County.

The road in Great Falls is the only one reported for the Reston area in a released list of road closures from the Fairfax County Police Department. FCPD will update the list throughout the day.

The National Weather Service issued a High Wind Warning that is set to last until 6 p.m. tonight (Feb. 25).

Fairfax Fire and Rescue has tips for locals who face issues caused by the sustained winds of 25 to 35 miles per high, with possible gusts up to 60 mph. The fire department wants residents to be mindful of any downed power lines or trees and to use battery powered lighting instead of candles if a power outage occurs.

“It is especially important to understand that downed lines can energize other objects, including fences, cars, trucks, buildings, bushes, trees and telephone and cable TV cables,” according to the post, adding that people should assume that any downed power lines are “live and dangerous.”

Updated at 8:45 a.m. — Fox Mill Road is now open, FCPD tweeted at 8:45 a.m.

Earlier: A car crash today (Feb. 14) has shut down Fox Mill Road at Lawyers Road.

Fairfax County Police tweeted that the closure is “due to a crash and pole down.”

A traffic alert from Fairfax County indicates that the crash happened shortly before 2:47 p.m.

There is no word yet on whether anyone has reported injuries.

Police advise people to avoid the area and find an alternative route.

Spring Street is shut down between Elden and Locust streets due to an accident.

Herndon Police tweeted that the street closed shortly before 10 a.m. today (Jan. 22).

Drivers and pedestrians should follow police direction, according to the tweet.

As crews continue construction for the second phase of the Metrorail Silver Line project, road closures and detours will be along the Dulles Toll Road this week.

Most of the closures avoid prime rush hour times.

The lane, shoulder and road closures started on Monday (Nov. 26) and are scheduled to last until Sunday (Dec. 2), according to a post from the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project.

The post reminds drivers to use caution; remain attentive to all signage, barricades and speed limits; and obey all police and flagger instructions. Work is subject to weather changes.

Eastbound on Dulles Toll Road has right and left lane closures of varying lengths from west of the Route 28 overpass to the Reston Parkway overpass.

The schedule for this is:

• Monday to Friday: 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Saturday: 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

There are also three left lane closures with stops every 20 minutes from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Thursday and Friday. Those closures are less than half of a mile west of Centreville Road to the east end of Herndon Station.

Starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, traffic eastbound on Dulles Toll Road near the toll plaza by Route 28 will be detoured to the right lane of the eastbound Dulles International Airport Access Highway. A second right lane will be closed as a safety buffer. Directly after the Centreville Road overpass, traffic will be allowed to re-enter the toll road lanes. This will last until 6 a.m. on Saturday.

Meanwhile, westbound on Dulles Toll Road there are alternating right and left lane closures of varying lengths between the Route 28 and Reston Parkway overpasses.

These will be in effect:

• Monday to Friday: 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Drivers heading westbound on the road will also experience three left lane closures with 20-minute stops from almost a quarter of a mile west of Van Buren Street to the west end of Innovation Center Station at 6 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Herndon Parkway East has a right lane closed 1,000 feet east of Van Buren Street to 800 feet west of Exchange Place. This takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from Tuesday until Thursday and then from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Friday.

Other roads affected include the Dulles International Airport Access Highway, Autopilot Drive, Dulles Greenway, eastbound on Sunset Hills Road East, westbound on Sunrise Valley Drive and southbound on Moran Road.

Several roads in the area are closed today due to flooding.

Water in the roadway has caused closures at Browns Mill Road at Wind Stone Drive, Browns Mill Road at Rosewood Hill Drive, and Lee Mill Road at Kelso Road.

A tree and wires are down at Georgetown Pike from Walker Road to Boehms Court. Rain is expected to continue today and Wednesday. Partly cloudy conditions are expected from Thursday through Saturday.

Baron Cameron Avenue at Wiehle Avenue may be closed for several hours due to downed wires.

According to Fairfax County Government, the closure could remain in effect for several hours.

An alert sent at 1:32 p.m., officials estimated the road would remain closed for four to six hours. Police are diverting traffic onto Wiehle Avenue and encourage residents and drivers to avoid the area.

A gas leak in the 1100 block of Elden Street in Herndon  has closed traffic in both directions, Fairfax County officials said.

Elden Street is closed in both directions from Herndon Parkway to Alabama Drive as of 1 p.m. and will be closed for about five hours, officials said.

Herndon Police have not said how the gas leak started.
