If you’re looking for a post-work drink or bite to eat, stopping by Glory Days at North Point Village Center could also help out the local high school.

Today from 5-9 p.m., the sports bar and restaurant will be raising money for the South Lakes High School class of 2021, which is already fundraising for graduation events.

A manager at Glory Days said the restaurant regularly hosts “dining for dollars” events to support local organizations. All meals at the restaurant are eligible for the donation.

“Once you eat, you put your receipt at an envelope at the front,” the manager said. “We will donate 10 percent of the bill.”

(Updated at 4:55 p.m.) Jerry’s Subs & Pizza is set to reopen soon after temporarily closing in the North Point Village Center.

The Reston location (1432 North Point Village Center) for the chain “closed due to a small fire-related incident that has been resolved,” according to a Facebook message from Jerry’s Subs & Pizza.

The Reston spot “will be reopening soon,” the company wrote, adding that there is no specific reopening date yet.

Finn Thai Restaurant and Bar, a Thai restaurant, is coming soon to North Point Village Center.

The restaurant has one location in Purcellville and a second location in Martinsburg, West Virginia. It will take up space formerly occupied by Payless. (1466 North Point Village Center), which closed in April last year after the company announced plans to file for bankruptcy.

A restaurant representative from the Martinsburg location told Reston Now that the opening day could be several weeks from now. But an exact date was not known yet, the representative said.

An Inova urgent care center is now open at 1488 North Point Village Center.

The newest Reston location is open seven days a week and offers pediatric emergency services. On-site exam rooms and x-ray and real-time interpretations by experts with the Association of Alexandria Radiologists are also offered.

The center takes up the former location of Ravel Dance Studio, which left its home of 20 years to relocate to a larger studio at 1763 Fountain Drive.

Other services include treatment for minor illness and injury, lab tests, sports physicals, and flu shots.

The center’s first day of business was on Monday (August 13).

An Inova emergency room center, which focuses primarily on emergency room services through a partnership with Inova Fairfax Hospital, is located just 1.2 miles away at 11901 Baron Cameron Avenue.

After a windy campout that began at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Chick-fil-A at 1494 North Point Village Center is now open.

The 2,800-square-foot restaurant is open from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. It is closed on Sunday.

Customers participating in Chick-fil-A’s promotional “First 100” event camped overnight at the location and received 52 chicken sandwich meals.

They were then ceremoniously welcomed down a red carpet to the sound of “When The Saints Go Marching In” and the banging of pots, pans and cowbells, according to a restaurant representative.

The store is run by Larry Everett, a retired firefighter who worked for the fire departments in Fairfax County and Montgomery County, Md. for more than 30 years.

Chick-fil-A is a family business for the Everett family. In addition to his son, Philip, a franchise owner in Rockford, his son, Joshua, will serve as facilities director at the new restaurant where Everett’s daughter-in-law, Stevie, will work as assistant human [resources] director and granddaughter, Evangeline, will be director of playground safety and designated Cow handler at North Point Center. 

During his 30-year firefighting career, Everett was a first responder to the Pentagon during 9/11 and spent most of his career serving the local community in Fairfax County. He and his wife, Andrea, and their family are looking forward to continuing that spirit of service among their friends and family in the Reston community.

Registration will open at 6 a.m. tomorrow for Chick-fil-A’s “First 100” overnight campout ahead of the grand opening on Thursday.

The restaurant, located at 1494 North Point Village Center, is offering selected participants 52 free chicken sandwich meals during the event. Campouts begin the day before grand opening day. Participants will be selected through a random drawing.

A valid ID  is required to participate in the event. For more information on acceptable documents to verify current residence, as well as specific rules for the campout, visit Chick-fil-A’s website.

Larry Everrett, a retired firefighter of 30 years from Fairfax County, will operate the store. Everrett also served as a first responder to the Pentagon during 9/11.

An Inova Urgent Care center is coming to 1488 North Point Village Center, roughly 1.7 miles away from Reston Hospital Center.

The center, which is certified by the Urgent Care Association of America and is open everyday, is “coming soon,” will provide adult and pediatric urgent care. 

It is expected to open in June or July this year, according to Roger Raker, a spokesperson for Inova.

Inova is moving into the former location of Ravel Dance Studio, which left its home of 20 years to relocate to a larger studio at 1763 Fountain Drive.

Centers are located throughout Northern Virginia, including Vienna, Fairfax, and Chantilly.

After some hiccups with final construction, the Chick-fil-A at 1494 North Point Village Center will open on April 5. An opening date for the store was originally set for March 28.

The decision was prompted by a “siding issue” and the impact of weather, according to the company.

Despite the date change, the “First 100” grand opening event is still on. The first 100 people to enter the restaurant will be in for a “crazy night of games, food, [and] fun for the entire family,” according to the company.

To date, 29 staff have been hired. The company hopes to hire a total of 70 to 80 employees.

A former Burger King in the North Point Village Center has been demolished this morning, as its replacement is hoping to get building soon.

According to a post on the Facebook page for Chick-fil-A North Point Village, the demolition project at 1494 North Point Village Center began at about 7 a.m. Monday. “Pending a fair winter,” according to the post, the Chick-fil-A will be built on the site and ready for the public by March 15.

The new Chick-fil-A will be more than 1 1/2 times the size of the building that had been on the site, franchisees Larry and Andrea Everett explained in an earlier post on the Facebook page.

Chick-fil-A has a very specific design just for North Point Village. This is NOT your standard restaurant footprint. The space needed to match the image for the community exceeded the footprint of the old BK. So Chick-fil-A absorbed the cost and designed a beautiful store that mirrors the expectations for the community.

The Everetts say renderings of the future restaurant “do not [do] it justice.”

The Chick-fil-A was approved by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in March 2016. It will be the second Chick-fil-A in Reston, along with the existing location at 12160 Sunset Hills Road, about 2 1/2 miles away.

It will be another busy weekend in the Reston/Herndon area.

Among the highlights will be the 34th annual Reston Triathlon, which will start at 7 a.m. Sunday at Lake Audubon. Those taking part will swim 1,500 meters in Lake Audubon, bike 40 kilometers on area roadways and run 10 kilometers on Reston pathways, ending at the South Lakes High School stadium.

Some traffic in South Reston will be affected by the event. Take note of the attached map of which roads will have bike traffic during the event, which is scheduled to last until about 11 a.m.

Volunteers are still needed for the event, as well.

Even if you aren’t taking part in the triathlon, though, there is plenty else to do around the area this weekend too. Listed below are some other events that you can enjoy.

• The JamBrew series continues tonight in Herndon. Aslin Beer Co. will be pouring frosty mugs, Weird Brothers Coffee will be offering tasty drinks, Nordic Knot Pretzels will provide tasty snacks, and there will be much more. Live music will be offered from MK Skillz, Shane Gamble and Burn the Ballroom. The free event is slated for 6-10 p.m. at the Herndon Town Green (777 Lynn St.).
• North Point Village Center will celebrate the arrival of fall Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a Fall Kick-Off event. Washington Redskins great and former All-Pro defensive end Dexter Manley will meet fans at Glory Days Grill (1400 North Point Village Center) from noon to 2 p.m., while the event will also feature carnival games, roaming characters for kids, a DJ playing music, a moon bounce and more.
• DogFest Walk ‘n Roll, a charity event to benefit Canine Companions for Independence, will be at Reston Town Center on Sunday. Admission and parking are free.
• The next exhibition at Greater Reston Arts Center (12001 Market St.), featuring the work of D.C.-based artist Sue Wrbican, opens Saturday with a free public reception Saturday from 5-7 p.m. at the gallery. “Sue Wrbican: Well Past the Echo” will be on view through Nov. 18.
• The Reston Farmers Market will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Lake Anne Village Center.
• Lake Anne is also hosting Sunday Yoga on the Plaza each week, at 9:30 a.m.
• There will be a ChalkFest workshop Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Reston Town Center (11900 Market St.). The free event will be hosted by Public Art Reston.
• Pulitzer Prize-winner display “Disgraced,” exploring Muslim assimilation and identity in America, will be performed at NextStop Theatre Company (269 Sunset Park Drive, Herndon) tonight at 8 p.m.; Saturday at 7 p.m.; and at a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee. Tickets range in price from $17.50 to $55.
• The Water Mine (1400 Lake Fairfax Drive) will “go to the dogs” Sunday for its annual Dog Daze event. Suggested donation is $10 per dog. In addition to the doggie splashing, there will be a canine resource fair, door prizes, demonstrations and more.
• The Herndon Garden Tour, slated for Sunday, will feature five private gardens, as well as the Monarch butterfly waystation at Runnymede Park. Painting demos, garden music and more will also be offered. Gardeners will be on hand during the self-guided tour to discuss their gardens and answer questions. Cost is $15; children 12 and under can participate for free.
• An open house at The Lake House (11450 Baron Cameron Drive) is planned for 10 a.m. to noon Sunday.
• At Reston Regional Library (11925 Bowman Towne Drive), the movie “Musicals” will be shown from 2-4 p.m. Saturday.
• United Christian Parish (11508 North Shore Drive) will host a panel of community and faith leaders on Sunday at 2 p.m. for what it is calling a “post-Charlottesville town hall.” According to information provided by the church, residents are invited to take part in the “[discussion of] bigotry and unconscious bias as we seek to work together to heal the wounds.”
• Many restaurants and bars in Reston will have live music this weekend. These include: Vinifera Wine Bar and Bistro (11750 Sunrise Valley Drive) from 7-10 p.m every Friday and Saturday night; Crafthouse (1888 Explorer St.) every Friday and Saturday night from 10 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.; and Tavern64 (1800 Presidents St.) every Friday from 6-10 p.m.
• Kalypso’s Sports Tavern (1617 Washington Plaza N.) will have live music from Catchin’ Toads tonight from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.; and DJ Kram will play Top 40 hits during those hours Saturday night.

North Point Village Center will celebrate the arrival of fall and the football season next weekend with a special event featuring a Washington Redskins great.

Two-time Super Bowl champion Dexter Manley will participate in the Fall Kick-Off event at the plaza Saturday, Sept. 9. The former All-Pro defensive end will meet fans at Glory Days Grill (1400 North Point Village Center) from noon to 2 p.m. that day.

The plaza’s celebration, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will also feature carnival games, roaming characters for kids, a DJ playing music, a moon bounce and more. The event also advertises “great savings, free food, prizes [and] giveaways.”

Plans to tear down the former Burger King at North Point Village Center and replace it with a Chick-fil-A appear to be moving forward.

Fairfax County earlier this week processed a permit application for demolition of the former Burger King restaurant at 1494 North Point Village Center. The demolition must be done to make room for the new Chick-fil-A, which will be more than 1 1/2 times the size of the current building on the site.

The new Chick-fil-A was approved by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in March 2016. It will be the second Chick-fil-A in Reston, along with the existing location at 12160 Sunset Hills Road, about 2 1/2 miles away. Another chicken restaurant, Boston Market, sits next to the North Point site.

We have reached out to North Point property manager Lerner Retail for more details about when the demolition process will begin and how long it will take. We will provide that information when it is made available.

The permitting process for a new Chick-fil-A in North Point Village Center continues.

Fairfax County records show the application to build the new free-standing restaurant was processed last month.

The new restaurant will replace the former Burger King at the location (1494 North Point Village Center), which closed in 2014. It is planned to be more than 1 1/2 times the size of the old building, which will be torn down in the process.

Another chicken eatery, Boston Market, sits next door to the site.
