Update: Ice Postpones Lake Fairfax Spring Trout Fishing

Trout fishing at Lake Fairfax

Update:  The recent cold temperatures have frozen Lake Fairfax, postponing Spring trout season, which was scheduled to begin Saturday, Feb. 8.

From Fairfax County Parks and Recreation:

Lake Fairfax is currently buried under three to four inches of ice, which means the spring trout season will be delayed until at least Wednesday, February 12, 2014. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we have to consider the safety of our visitors first.  To confirm the opening date, please call the park at 703-471-5415.”

Original story, Thursday:

There still may be cold temperatures and some snow in February, but Lake Fairfax’s spring trout fishing season will begin Feb. 8 as scheduled.

The Fairfax County Park Authority stocks Lake Fairfax with golden and rainbow trout for fishing seasons in Spring and Fall. The trout are trucked in from regional hatcheries and then piped right into the 20-acre lake.

Spring trout season in Fairfax runs Feb. 8 to May 4. Here is what you need to know:

Passes may be purchased at the main office and are non-transferable. Both season and day passes must be worn in a visible manner.
