What’s the difference between a burglary and a larceny? I thought larceny referred to if it was a public place, but I see some are at residences. Is it determined by whether the place is locked or not?

I think it depends on whether they had to call a helicopter.

You made me curious, too, so I Googled it: “Burglary (entering a building with the intent to commit a crime inside) and larceny (theft) are two different crimes, although burglaries are often committed for the purpose of theft. Burglary laws are intended to protect the sanctity and privacy of people’s homes and other structures. Laws against larceny protect personal property.”
