Eddie Rodriguez/Credit: FCPDFairfax County Police say the man who was killed in the Sunday afternoon robbery attempt in Reston is Rashad Kejuan Daye, 24, of the Herndon area.

Daye, whom acquaintances said usually went by his middle name Kejuan, was one of the visitors to the Stoneview Square apartment.

The incident occurred in the 11600 block of Stoneview Square about 2:50 p.m. on Sunday. Police said there was a gathering of men in an apartment, there was a robbery attempt and an altercation, and Daye was a killed. Another man was injured when a bullet grazed him.

Dominique May/Credit: FCPDPolice have arrested two men and charged them with attempted robbery and use of firearm in commission of a felony: Eddie Rodriquez, 22, of Woodbridge and Dominique May, 18, of Reston.

May is a student at South Lakes High School, FCPS officials confirmed Monday.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges may be placed in the case as detectives proceed, police said.

Police originally said the incident was a home invasion that ended in a shooting, though the suspects and victim knew one another. They later corrected it to a robbery attempt.

“You know, if I had a son, he’d look like Rashad”

    – President Obama

    • Brandy

A family just lost their son, brother..I fail to see how jokes are appropriate.

      • Ming the Merciless

Parodying our pompous POTUS is always appropriate.

        • Brandy

          Tell that to his mother.

          • Ming the Merciless

If I didn’t, then I’d lose the right to call myself Merciless!

          • HealthyAtEverySize

Does his father. Wait, excuse me, “baby daddy’ have anything to say on the matter?

          • June Smith

Did he even know who his daddy was?

          • June Smith

If his mother had done a better job raising him, he wouldn’t be dead today.

          • Brandy

This is just disgusting. His mother is dead.

          • June Smith

Cause of death? Do we really need to ask?

          • Brandy

Are you kidding me???? Does it matter? Are you honestly assuming his mother was some kind of gang member caught up in something she shouldn’t have been?

          • June Smith

Pretty much! This is Shadowood we’re talking about

          • Brandy

Oh crap! I accidentally stumbled into the KKK forum. Oops! He didn’t live in Shadowood. I don’t think his mother did either. But, guilt by association (or in all your cases, skin color) I guess.

          • HealthyAtEverySize

I would argue it’s the lack of a father figure. A “baby daddy” can only go so far

          • coya

you are so pathetic and a sick individual like seriously his mother is no longer here. he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. stop believe everything the news have to say. they are all lies!

          • June Smith

Do you even live in Northern VA?

        • Barbara Goddard

          No it is not

          • Shagga

yes it is, especially when this happens about 10 times a day or more from his home district in the south side of Chicago. The silence is deafening… and I am 99% sure he wont say a word about what happened in Reston. He doesn’t care, he only cares when his lawyer friends might be able to milk money from a local government by suing the police.

      • WhoIsJohnGalt

You’re right – society just lost a great contributor. A beacon of light to the community. I’m sure his father will give a wonderful eulogy that brings a tear to my eye.

        • Brandy

So because he was a bad gut he deserved to die? What defines bad? Has he killed anybody? Do you have some inside information as to who this guy was that the general public doesn’t know? Have you ever stolen anything, smoked pot, used inappropriate language? Do you deserve to die? I’m not saying to love the dude, I’m saying have a little damn respect for his family that you know nothing about. He is someone’s son, someone’s brother and someone’s father. And they are mourning. And regardless of how you feel about someone you don’t even know, try having a shred of respect for the people left behind in this mess.

          • Ming the Merciless

I bet if he learned more about them, he’d have even less respect for them and their offspring.

          • Brandy

I guess not all boys can turn into the bright, respectful, upstanding young men such as yourself. I’m sure your parents are thrilled.

          • Ming the Merciless

I give respect to those who are worthy of respect. None of the folk involved in this story, including the dead one, falls into that category.

Kejuan did not just “turn into” a dead criminal. He made many, many choices that led him down that path. He failed himself, his parents, and society.

          • disqus_C4NtS6R6xq

            Go suck yourself dumb dumb

          • Tom Terrific

Yeah no one really cares about you or who you respect. Get over yourself Nancy

          • Ming the Merciless

You obviously do, or you wouldn’t be in here venting your furious indignation to my great amusement.

          • Wiley

Nobody reply to this boy. I cant say man because youre just a coward behind a keyboard. You must’ve failed your parents because you seem like a very angry person. I see this guy always making racist remarks and just disrespectful comments on these articles. Ill pray for you because you obviously dont have anybody that loves you. God bless you little one.

          • Ming the Merciless

It is obvious that the truth bothers you a lot.

          • FULL TIME BOJANGLER

Ming has me. I love him. And like it or not, he is usually right and his commentary is very entertaining.

          • Brandy

Oh I didnt realize you knew any of them. I guess condolences aren’t in order then? I guess your mother didn’t teach you the keep your mouth shut if you have nothing nice to say rule. No respect for her.

          • Ming the Merciless

I know what I’ve read about them in the story above, which is all the information we need to deduce that none of those arrested or shot is worthy of respect.

          • Brandy

You were talking about not having respect for their families. That is what I was referring to. Passing judgement on people that are not even mentioned, the victims family, seems rather….tasteless.

          • Ming the Merciless

YOU are the one who brought their families into this.

What we know about the family – that they raised a violent thug – does not inspire respect.

          • Brandy

Clearly you know nothing. That is unfortunate. You put yourself on the same level as those not inspiring respect when you blatantly disrespect people you know nothing about. Lots and lots of people are raised with guiding hands, love, nurturing, and being shown the right paths to walk down, that turn into murderous animals. Cannibals even.

          • Ming the Merciless

But we do know something about them — they inflicted Kejuan on the world. That is enough to know.

          • FULL TIME BOJANGLER

            WTF?

          • FULL TIME BOJANGLER

I have smoked pot. I have used language that some may find inappropriate, even offensive. But to compare those actions to felonious deeds is silly. He made bad choices, associated w/ some bad ass dudes, and from what I’ve read, served time for many crimes. So I wouldn’t say he deserved to die. What I will say is this…live like a thug, die like a thug.

          • Tom Terrific

I knew the word “thug” was coming. Pompous , pious, people trying to grab the moral high ground by disparaging someone else shows that they have little to recommend themselves.

          • Ming the Merciless

None of us needs to “grab the moral high ground”. Simply by not being a drug-dealing, murderous criminal we have the moral high ground. And drug-dealing, murderous criminals should be disparaged. Perhaps if Kejuan had experienced a little more concerted moral disapproval of his actions, he’d be alive today.

          • FULL TIME BOJANGLER

            Tom,

Merriam-Webster defines thug : a violent criminal. How is that not applicable?

          • Barbara Goddard

            Amen

          • June Smith

He made his own choices … he follwed the wrong path and that path lead to his early demise. Stop making him the victim

        • Zee

Both of his parents are deceased show some respect

      • Guy

While there is no doubt that this is a bad time for the family, it needs to be pointed out that Kejuan was a very troubled young man. He had multiple jail stints and was known to participate in robberies while we attended south lakes together. This kid lacked direction and morals. Nonetheless, no one deserves to be killed.

        • Brandy

I’m not at all congratulating any behavior of his. I don’t know him or know of him. I can only imagine being shot dead by a peer means you may not have led the most wholesome of lives. Joking about it is still inexcusable.

        • FULL TIME BOJANGLER

          Guy,
I heard that he went to Herndon Middle and Herndon High???

          • Guy

            He did,
But he was expelled and came to South Lakes.

        • Ming the Merciless

The conclusion does not follow from the premise, and is false in any event.

      • Tom Terrific

Especially a stale joke. The political posters trying to hijack a story have no life and bore the world to tears.

        • Ming the Merciless

Hey, who hijacked the story about the five thugs who met a sorry end by talking about what violent thugs they were and why they met a sorry end?

In fact it was Brandy who hijacked the story by saying we should not discuss the violent thug because he has a mother. As if every evil criminal in the world doesn’t have a mother…

    • Barbara Goddard

      Good grief

  • Ming the Merciless

He was a guest until he refused to pay for the crack, then pulled a gun and shot me. At that point it became a home invasion!

  • John

Not a great afternoon for Eddie & Dominique. It really was so nice outside , why did they choose to go & do something like that .

  • disqus_C4NtS6R6xq

You one ignorant individuals you Damn clown

  • Chuck Morningwood

Rest in peace, Rashad Kejuan Daye. My condolences to your family, friends and acquaintances.

  • shagga

I hope Rashad was an organ doner so his death wasn’t completely pointless. The killers should admit their guilt and spare us tax payers a pricey trial. Maybe community leaders can spread the word that human life is more valuable than a stash of drugs or fist full of dollars

  • reston always been like this

So why is neither of em charged with murder? Or were they not the 1s who shot kejuan dead?

    VIOL PROBATION OF MISD OFF

    • HealthyAtEverySize

My goodness that is a long “rap sheet”. Is that common?

      • Guy

No, my premise is that kejuan had a record of violent crimes, robbery, drug use, and disregard of authority. Moreover, the police report stated there were multipule weapons recovered and neither of the two arrested individuals have been charged with murder or even manslaughter which leads one to logically conclude that they had some degree of legality in using their weapon leathly. These two kids didnt just shoot him for no reason, it was a robbery gone wrong. No one deserves to die, but its hard to deny the fact that this young man was knowingly/ continously puting himself into situations where this type of reasult was not far fetched. In fact, he bragged about it openly on social media.

        • Craige

The 2 guys were with him doing the robbery on the homeowner

          • COYA

            wrong.!! FALSE

        • Craige

          The homeowner shot at them.

    • Reston Watcher

Guy- perhaps you would provide us your real name so that we can do a complete background check on you?

The point here that that it’s all a damn shame. Your premise that somehow these young men have gotten what they deserved is gross.

    • Thalia Poiyz Noelle

He without sin cast the first stone .

    • Cluster Tycoon

Thanks Guy for the info. Also RIP Daye.

Thing here is, once convicted of a crime no matter how small you will be at a huge disadvantage especially if you are young. And even though some of the cyber warriors like FTB admit to smoking pot, the difference is (chances are) they never got caught and/or they had a good lawyer. So they never had to fight in the war on drugs, in the trenches, from either the good or the bad side.

Lastly, science tells us that the frontal lobes of young men are not developed fully until the age of 25 so the act of reasoning and other functions are not fully supported. That is a huge handicap as witnessed in this case.

Fact here also, there are literally 1000s of cases like this in the area and many of these youth will run afoul of the law. Unless the courts find better ways to deal with these kids chances are this will happen again. Sending these kids to jail is just providing them with an advanced degree in crime, and doesn’t help.

We need more programs that teach these kids real skills, like welding mechanics plumbing etc that produce tangible results and help establish a track record. Dealing drugs is probably easier, but chances are the government will take that job away soon. We are already seeing white entrepreneurs taking over the weed business.

      • WhoIsJohnGalt

Today I learned that until the age of 25 people don’t know the difference between right and wrong. Apparently this poor youth didn’t know it was a bad idea to partake in drugs and thuggery. Thank you for correcting me in the error of my ways!

  • Thalia Poiyz Noelle

I know you are doing this for attention so first ill say congrats because you pissed me off so badly that i am going to entertain you with a response which you really dont deserve but out of fear that there is a family member of Kejuan that will see this and be upset i cannot sit idly as you use him to web-famous. Kejuan was a father and son and brother that lived an imperfect life in this imperfect system of injustice. He made a way to provide. He made sure his daughter was cared for. Did he do this legally , no. But was he the first man to do this , no . How many more of our children and families going to have to die before someone out there in this society says OK we have to help these people we have to show them that what we have told them and the limits we have set for these people are all lies. Until we stop judging and actually help better each other, we will all continue to hate and kill each other. Kinda how i would love nothing more than to put two bullets in your head watch your family grieve then makes jokes about it so that we can keep the cycle going .

    • Cluster Tycoon

point well taken but lets be careful not to endorse the lifestyle. you know that all three have been living a lie, convincing themselves that it was the only way. but the story has a happy ending because two of the youths at risk – your friends? – are still alive. so now eddie and dominique can now make an informed decision of how to continue with their lifes, if they wish to do so. And perhaps you should also. Best wishes,

      • FULL TIME BOJANGLER

Actually, the point is not well taken. Thalia’s comments are incoherent. Blaming society at large for the problems within this impoverished minority community only throw fuel on the fire.

    • Ming the Merciless

If Kejuan had a daughter then what he should have done was GET A JOB instead of selling drugs, being a criminal, and associating with criminals. The claim that he had to sell drugs as a “way to provide” is BALONEY.

Kejuan’s behavior was despicable and deserves to be judged harshly. And he got all the help he needed on Sunday. Good riddance to another vicious thug.

      • WhoIsJohnGalt

Ming, I hate to be that guy but I think the spelling is bologna.

  • TwisTDaGod

everyone sittin here talkin bout the situation with my cussin gettin shot like they kno wats goin on…. STFU and let my mans #RESTINPEACE!

    • Jill

Your “mans” is dumb enough to go to someones house with his buddies and with guns. What did you expect to happen? You go asking for trouble then you’ll get it. I feel sorry for the family because they lost a life but we dont feel sorry for him because hes a grown man that knew what he was doing especially with a daughter. If you know so much of the situation then please enlighten us because we dont want to judge him wrong if he didnt do anything wrong.

    • June Smith

The neighbors will be the ones who will get a little peace

    • 2pac

We do know whats going on, it’s quite evident. He lived like a thug so he died like a thug. Not much depth to it.

  • June Smith

Gerry Connolly (when Supervisors Board) – Now Obama’s BFF – allocated millions of our tax dollars for subsidized housing in places like Shadowood for low lifes like Daye and his buddies … some of those units are subsidized as much as 90% so riff raff like this can live among us

  • Chloe Wilkerson

Clearly, it’s not the golf course that needs to be redeveloped. Rather it’s all those run down, low income apartments & condos that line Soapstone. Someone please hurry up and replace those with luxury housing!

    • WhoIsJohnGalt

Shame the Tetra purchase couldn’t have been used to snag this land and bulldoze it.

  • Expert

“HOW CAN YOU SIT AND JUDGE SOMEONE OFF THEIR PAST?”
If not the actions of his past, what other traits of this mans life should we base our judgment on? I’m sure he meant well, but, that actions of his past are the story his life tells.
