Former Reston Trainer Faces Additional ‘Upskirt’ Charges

Michael Wayne Edwards, Sept. 6 booking/FCPDMichael Wayne Edwards, a former Reston personal trainer who was charged last month with taking “upskirt” videos at the South Lakes Safeway, was arrested last week on an additional similar charge, Fairfax County Police said.

Edwards was charged on Sept 6 with filming a non-consented nude person. He was released on $2,500 bond, said police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell.

The most recent charges stem from a July 24 incident. A woman said she was in the South Lakes Safeway and felt someone someone bump her and then touch her underneath clothing while she was in the store. She identified the person as Edwards.

Edwards has an Oct. 13 hearing in Fairfax County Court on the most recent charge.

In August, Edwards, 33, of Centreville, was charged with indecent exposure, simulated masturbation and filming a non-consented nude person. A woman told police she was shopping at Safeway when a man, identified as Edwards, was following her in the store on more than one occasion.

The victim said as she walked back to work that day, Edwards followed her as she walked near Sunrise Valley Drive and Lakespray Way. The man appeared to be videotaping and spoke to her.  The woman told police the man then exposed himself to her then he ran away. Officers identified the suspect and worked with store personnel to investigate.

Edwards told Reston Now in August he did not commit any crime. Edwards was fired from his job at Fusion360 gym, also located at South Lakes, shortly after the first arrest. He has a hearing date of Nov. 24 on the August charges.

This is not the first time Edwards has been accused of a sexually related crime. In 2010, he was charged with several accounts of second-degree assault after he squirted semen from a bottle on women as they exited a Giant and Michael’s craft stores in Gaithersburg, Md.

Edwards pled guilty to one of those charges (the rest were dropped as part of the plea deal). He was fined $500 and given a three-year suspended jail sentence, Montgomery County records show. His probation period ended in June 2014.

My guess he just wanted to re-distribute garment fabric. Perhaps on his way to Church or a BlackLIvesMatter campaign

Fairfax County should be held responsible if they release him and he ends up assaulting some woman/child. The mental health system in this country is a complete joke, this guy needs to be removed from society for some long term treatment.

So he went from looking but not touching, to small touching. I wonder what the next step is? And then when he does something people will say “He didn’t do nuffin….” and say he’s just a good boy

You have it backwards since the offense date is from July. He went from small touching to no touching but stalking and exposing. Probably was staging a 2015 come back with a larger semen filled spray bottle.

I don’t know how this is going to play out for you, Michael Wayne Edwards. if you’re guilty of this, I hope you get the help which you need.

“The most recent charges stem from a July 24 incident.” What about the Sept 6 charge — filming a non-consented nude person. Isn’t that more recent?

    • lordhelmet

Probably was reported in July or the incident happened in July. Either the detectives followed up on similar unsolved reports or the victim recently came forward and identified him as the suspect.

Awww, no batman shirt, bummer. So he’s actually arrested now? Behind bars? Hopefully he’ll stay there until he gets the treatment he needs.

i didn’t read that he’s in jail…that’s the scary part…how did he get a job as a personal trainer with a background he has?…squirting semen, totally disgusting…This guy will not stop…Big problem here..what to do about it???

I think she meant that the most recent (9/6) arrest warrant relates to a July date of offense. For record keeping purposes, police track the date of offense, the date of issuance of an arrest warrant (or summons), and the date of arrest (if applicable). The first two dates are often different even though they relate to the same crime. myeager

      OK, thanks.

Lot of talk about the “treatment he needs”. What is that, exactly? Is there an effective treatment for… whatever the technical term for pervert is? How much does it cost?

The treatment Ming recommends costs 20 cents and is 100% guaranteed to prevent recidivism.

I went to that gym once and this was the guy that was teaching the class I attended. He was a nice dude, too bad he has issues.
