Reminder: It’s Summer Restaurant Week

Summer 2016 Restaurant WeekCrowds are thin at restaurants from K Street to Leesburg this week. So its a good time to try out the places where getting a table is usually tough at Metropolitan Washington Summer Restaurant Week, which begins today and runs through Aug. 22.

More than 200 restaurants in Virginia, DC and Maryland will participate. They are offering special prix-fixe, three-course meals that will be $22 for lunch and $35 at dinner.

Reston restaurants taking part include The Melting Pot,  Morton’s and Passion Fish.

See the entire list of participating Virginia restaurants and make reservations on Open Table or on the Restaurant Week website.

Reminder: It’s the last restaurant week before the Reston Town Center begins charging parking fees, and before the possibility of a county-wide meals tax going into effect. That $35 dinner could easily be over $50 once those fees go into effect. There is a better, reasonable solution. Boston Properties could drop the parking fee on weeknights. Or at the very least help out its restaurants by considering restaurant week one of its “special events” and waiving the parking fee those weeks. It’s not just parkers that suffer from this misguided policy during restaurant week. I feel for the servers at the town center restaurants who could see their tips reduced because people will be trying to make up for the onerous parking fee and meals tax.
