Hotel Being Proposed for Lake Fairfax Business Park

Thompson Hospitality is looking to put a hotel in the Lake Fairfax Business Park, adjacent to its company headquarters.

According to the latest edition of The Fairfax Newsletter, the food-service company has plans to put a 98,500-square foot hotel on Business Center Drive. The company moved its headquarters to the business park after purchasing a two-story office building there in 2011.

The proposed hotel would be on 4.82 acres. The site is currently zoned I-4, but an application has been filed to rezone it.

The Lake Fairfax Business Park is off Sunset Hills Road, east of Wiehle Avenue. Thompson’s property is on the western side of the park, which also houses the National Wildlife Federation, Freddie Mac, Sodexo, Lifetime Athletic and more businesses.

The Fairfax Newsletter reports that Thompson is proposing a four-story, 138-room hotel that “will provide rooms and small-scale meeting spaces for business travelers that will help serve the office uses surrounding the Property.” It would be constructed on what is currently a large surface parking lot.

The property is within the Wiehle-Reston East Transit Station Area, in a portion recommended for office use.

The more cars without road upgrades the better hudgins likes it

  • 40yearsinreston

Great, the congestion at the single entrance is already dangerous
The backup to Wheile will get worse

    • johnson

The traffic backups are already at Wheile AND Hunter Mill. Tack on new traffic thanks to Ms Hudgins’ “add a school to Crowell Rd” just off Hunter Mill and bam, you’re not going anywhere.
I guess this would destroy the mountain bike trails behind the property as well. Hell, why not just take down all of the trees in Reston and put up hotels, larger overpriced condos, and parking lots?

Here come the complaints from the people that didn’t think Reston would grow.

    • 40yearsinreston

      We knew it would grow
Just that no provision would be made to support the extra traffic and residents

Honestly, i dont think we need more hotels we need house boats. People are very happy with house boats in Canada so why not here, in our free country?

we’d need places to put the house boats – Reston’s lakes aren’t all that large

I am thinking of scaling back my operation. Maybe 25 of these, daisy chained at Lk Anne. Inclusive free breakfast at the local coffee shop at $60/night. Monthly discounted rates also. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/07d07dee8f579e696d1c737ab7218701de3e45a06550b06de13587d9fb85208e.jpg

        Should be ok no?

Lovely! May the DRB be with you! 😉

We can connect the lakes with canals, turn Reston into the Venice of NoVA (take THAT Alexandria!) 😉

        • Arielle in NoVA

That sure would be fun, especially if we could connect them into a huge lazy river 🙂 Sadly, at least one is a lot lower than the others so we’d need locks also. Lots of infrastructure cost 🙁

Lets not kiss king salomon feet too much. Equal opportunity for everone [drumroll]

            ???Please rephrase

    • Kara Gardner Wills

The lakes in Reston are really man-made water drainage/storm water control. Also, that water is commonly owned by all RA members. You cannot simply put a houseboat in the water on an RA lake.

      • Jenny Gibbers

Use existing fleet perhaps, large inventory of unused opportunities

        • Kara Gardner Wills

No existing ‘fleet’, lakes in Reston are community owned resources and Fairfax County Ordinace does not allow short-term rentals even on private property.

      • 40yearsinreston

All RA members pay – only a few can put boats on it and have increased property values
        The Reston way!

That stretch of road already backs up, but if they could do road improvements I think it would actually be a good idea – for folks visiting relatives in the area as well as for the occasional ice skating/hockey-playing family or group, since it’s adjacent to SkateQuest. Hope they add a path to SkateQuest and a sidewalk/path along the street, if those don’t already exist. I know the W&OD is behind it, but there should also be streetside walking space.

More competition for my evil broom closet Air bnb plans!

I have a better idea, scrape the “large surface parking lot” off and turn it into an RV park 😉
