A New Dock is Coming to Lakeport Cluster

A new dock is coming to the Lakeport Cluster soon, according to a Lakeport Cluster Association press release.

Amid construction of a new dock, the nearby bulkhead will see some repairs as well.

Building time should take 70 days and will begin five days after all the permits are obtained. Reston Association has said that the pedestrian pathway easement through the Lakeport Cluster will be closed through June 18.

The Lakeport Cluster Association said residents should expect some trouble with parking near Triangle Park, and some construction noise disruption between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and between 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends.

“We ask for your patience because at the end, we will have a beautiful and much more usable dock with decades of life ahead, better lighting along the RA path, and a newly landscaped focal point next to the dock for the community to enjoy,” wrote in a statement.

As a part of fixing the decaying bulkhead, workers will replace the vandalized light bollards and address shoreline stabilization, erosion mitigation and new landscaping at the other end of the dock.

More freebies for the privileged property owners
They should pay for it themselves
    How is this fair ?

    • Donald

Uhhh… the Lakeport Cluster residents are paying for this. Not RA.

Uuhhh… how much is RA ‘contributing’ ?

        • Greg

          See below.

      • Greg

        Some, yes; all, no.

“When the entire project is finished, RA will repave the path by the dock, which will most likely have seen some further deterioration from the construction activities.”

The cluster should pay for the damages it or its agents cause. An RA CEO (or the many staff that you routinely praise) paid nearly $250,000, Cate Fulkerson, should have righted this wrong.

        • Donald

Yea…that’s the way the RA should treat its members and Clusters.

I hope to god, the community moves on from this thou shall never” attitude, to a “what can we do to help” mantra.

Help some owners enhance their property values with my compulsory dues ?
Will they help me with my property ?
RA wont even answer the phones

          • Ted

Thank you for maintaing common property. This dock is gonna look great! I can’t wait to use it!!

          • 30yearsinreston

            Youre not welcome

          • Ted

            You’re*

          • Donald

So, several trees came down in our cluster during the last storm, RA crews came to assist as they were removing trees from the adjacent RA path.

Should we have said “no thank you — 30yearsinreston would not approve”.

Are you going to send us a bill? This is what I expect my Reston Association to do! To be there for its members.

I want my Community association to focus on outreach, innovation, creativity and empathy, not to be run by a bunch of quartermasters with this cut to the bone — “no soup for you” attitude.

            Donald.

          • 30yearsinreston

A tree fell down on their path near my place
It took RA 3weeks to determine it was on the path easement

          • Greg

Good thing we are in agreement for once. And now that Fulkerson and her lackeys are gone or going, maybe the RA will spend wisely and frugally on its members rather than the wasteful things it did under Fulkerson.

          • Donald

Well, I may be in the minority (I suspect I’m not) when I say this:

I look at her nearly 30 years of dedication to this community and say — “thank you Cate!”

            Donald

          • Greg

Similar to what the hildebeest said, what difference, at this point, does it make? She’s out. Fulkerson’s 30-year legacy is that of incompetence, overcompensation, and failure.

Our thanks go to the board for getting rid of her. And our encouragement for the RA board to continue cleaning house.

    • The Constitutionalist

Wait, this whole time you’ve thought all of this was fair?

  • OneReally

No women under 30 should be in bikinis sunbathing on the new dock.

    • OneReally

      **correction** over 30

      • 30yearsinreston

Why should this just apply tp women?

        • O veya

          Bikinis

          • OneReally

G string only as well please…

  • Members only

If the dock only had side rails we could play bocce. Maybe RA could add a little funding – the retirees of Reston thanks in advance.

  • dudewe

I’m confused. Is RA contributing to the cost of the dock? Hopefully not – it is a private dock for use by Lakeport cluster residents only. RA should also not pay for repaving the adjacent RA pathway. There is nothing wrong with the pathway. If it is damaged during construction of the dock that should be the part of the project’s cost.
