Wooboi Chicken to Bring ‘Nashville Hot Chicken’ to Herndon

by Catherine Douglas Moran January 29, 2019 at 10:15 am 18 Comments

Wooboi Chicken is set to hold a soft opening tomorrow ahead of its grand opening next week.

The grand opening at 139 Spring Street, Suite 1 — the former spot of Metro Cafe — is set for Feb. 5, Wooboi Chicken told Reston Now.

The chicken eatery posted on its Facebook page today that it plans to have a soft opening with a limited menu tomorrow (Jan. 30) from noon to 4 p.m. Government workers and law enforcement officers can receive 10 percent off of their entire order.

Wooboi Chicken had pop-up locations in Maryland and Virginia last summer.

The “Nashville hot chicken” is free-range, does not contain antibiotics and is fried in peanut oil, according to its website. For customers with peanut allergies, Wooboi Chicken has a separate fryer that uses canola oil instead.

Depending on how hot customers like their chicken, Chef Minwoo will offer six different levels of heat, along with five options for sides.

That dog whistle has no place in Reston Mr. “30 years in Reston”. You should be more welcoming and accepting of the diversity and culture fried chicken brings to this area

didnt take long for the PC police to start whining
        Perhaps it reflects their dogma
Besides we already have at least 6 of them locally

        “HateHasNoHomeInReston”

        That’s funny!

Are you suggesting that commenting on the proliferation of competitors to venues like Chick-Fil-a or Popeyes is racist ?

        • Big Drop

No, competitors to what you would find at Bleu Duck Tavern, DBGB, Trummer’s on Main and a Jose Andres specialty. Anthony Bourdain featured it in a show last year.

        • HateHasNoHomeInReston

I’m suggesting your disdain for a proliferation of fried chicken is inherently racist as it pulls upon horrible stereotypes of a specific demographic having an affliction for the aforementioned fried chicken.

Moreover as the Reston population becomes more diverse, it’s clear that changes in culture whether it be food, music or other aspects will enter the area.

So you should embrace the culture of fried chicken. You might actually like it

          • OneReally

WOW! You got all of that from one comment.

“inherently racist” is that opposite of learn racism?

You ever think maybe he just didn’t like another chicken shack in Reston or Herndon. Personally (I guess racist) tend to agree. How about some other options? We don’t have great seafood in the area. How about a hot dog place that isnt a chain!

          • 30yearsinreston

            Thank you
            You’re correct

          • Nic Watson

There was a hog dog place, just a couple blocks west on Spring from Metro Cafe. It closed though.

          • OneReally

Yeah. The lady that was a Steelers fan, right?
I went there a few times.

          • 30yearsinreston

The culture of fried chicken ?
            Are you for real ?
I suggest you get off your sterotyping people

    • Big Drop

Interesting comment. Versions of Nashville hot chicken in D.C. is also sold at Bleu Duck Tavern, DBGB, Trummers on Main and it is a specialty of Jose Andres. All inspired by Prince’s in Nashville. Again I prouldly welcome Wooboi.

  • Big Drop

Prince’s hot fried chicken in Nashville is legendary and indeed outstanding. If this even approaches Prince’s excellence it will be a welcome addition for us and wildly successful. I wish Wooboi the absolute best and thank them for opening here.

That’s the shopping center for places that are serious about great food and not paying a lot of rent. Balaji Cafe (in the same center) makes amazing dosas. But man, those buildings are very dingy.
