In a push to convince Fairfax County to fund the arts, one high school student put on a show.
The performance on April 13 provided a musical interlude after hours of in-person, phone, and video remarks across three days of budget hearings before the Board of Supervisors.
Student Christopher Tate, who attends Washington-Liberty High School in Arlington, only shared his name and spoke about himself when asked by the board after his performance, which drew applause.
A popular concert series is shifting to a new location in Reston.
Reston Community Center’s “Take a Break” concert series will relocate from Lake Anne Plaza to Reston Station on Thursday evenings beginning this summer.
The series takes place from 7-8:30 p.m. and gives attendees a chance to learn dance moves. The venue change was made because the use of the plaza “is being revisited by the Lake Anne of Reston Condominium Association,” according to a statement.

Reston Station Adds Wealth Management Firm — Comstock announced on Tuesday (April 19) that the office and private investment firm Cresset Manager has signed a lease agreement for 11,500 square feet on the ninth floor of 1900 Reston Metro Plaza. The company is expected to relocate its D.C. area office, currently in Reston Town Center, to the new space in the third quarter of 2022. [Comstock]

A man who lured a 14-year-old girl to a radio station is being held in Fairfax County jail, accused of raping the teenager in 1987.
William Clark, 59, of Ashburn, was arrested Monday (April 18) in Fairfax County and also faces charges of abduction with the intent to defile and attempted forcible sodomy. According to police, he lured the teen into his vehicle in Fairfax City and then took her to a wooded area, where the sexual assault took place.
“The victim arrived at the radio station, was enticed into Clark’s vehicle with the promise of prizes,” Fairfax County Police Department Maj. Ed O’Carroll said today (Wednesday) during a news conference.
Chestnut Grove Cemetery, a historic cemetery deeded to the Town of Herndon, is poised to increase fees for burials, lots and other services.
As part of ongoing budget discussions for fiscal year 2023, the town is considering increasing fees by between 13.5 and 15% for most lots.
According to staff, that’s partly because of a decrease in the number of burial sites at the property, which was first formally recognized as a cemetery in 1872. The cemetery was deeded to the town in 1997 by the Chestnut Grove Cemetery Association.

The redevelopment of a seven-acre site on Reston Station Boulevard is nearly complete transforming low-rise office buildings into a residential development with some ground-floor retail.
Faraday Park, which includes two residential towers with 408 units and 26 townhouses, has opened its second tower — Faraday East — for pre-leasing. The building, which was formerly the site of a parking lot and is located at 11201 Reston Station Boulevard, includes 166 apartments.

While Fairfax County regularly makes headlines for its diversion initiatives and other criminal justice reform efforts, an imbalance in funding for prosecutors and defense attorneys remains unaddressed, the local public defender’s office says.
Gov. Glenn Youngkin visited Google’s Reston Station office today (Tuesday) to help the company share its plans to continue building up Virginia’s technology industry.
Flanked by public officials at a media event, Google executive Vint Cerf announced it will invest over $300 million in Virginia this year.
“Virginia is a shining example of the work we’re doing across the United States with a growing office right here in Reston Station and continued investments that we’re making in our data centers in northern Virginia,” Cerf said.
Fairfax County’s work release program remains shut down due to the pandemic, keeping one option for inmates off of the table for a little over two years.
Due to concerns about the transmission of COVID-19, the county’s sheriff’s office says its is unclear when and if the program will resume. The program first shut down in March 2020.
Fairfax County plans to reduce service on some bus routes due to budget constraints, even as a program allowing free transfers to and from Metrorail could become permanent.
On the Newington Circulator (Route 334), Fairfax Connector has proposed reducing weekday service from every 30 minutes to rush hours and a single mid-day trip.
For months, several businesses at North Point Village Center have been struck by overnight burglaries.
The series of burglaries at Bobby’s Bagel Cafe, Gregorio’s Trattoria, Matsutake Sushi and Sake Bar between September and March led police to launch a stakeout to catch the possible suspect.
Those efforts paid off Friday night (April 16) after a detective spotted the alleged suspect near the shopping center trespassing on private property.
