An armed man was arrested on Thursday (March 22) after hitting a police officer with his fist and spitting on him, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
Police arrested Carlos Cherry, 37, at the intersection of Elm Tree Drive and Sycamore View Lane in the Herndon area around 4:15 p.m.. Police said Cherry appeared to be intoxicated. He was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, brandishing a firearm and intoxication in public.
In a separate incident on Friday (March 23) around noon, a resident found a window broken and items from inside a home on the 12000 block of Laurel Glade Court.
On Sunday, police pursued a wanted individual from Hampton on the 13100 block of Worldgate Drive. After a chase, the suspect, Warren Wendell Maxwell, 25, was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest.
In a separate incident on Sunday, Ricardo Sanchez was charged with strangulation and attempted sexual assault. The incident occurred on the 1200 block of Bicksler Court, according to the Herndon Police Department.

Yesterday, we also reported that a Maryland man was killed over the weekend when he lost control over his car on Baron Cameron Avenue and hit a traffic signal pole. The cause of the incident remains under investigation. Alcohol was not a factor, police said.

A 23-year-old man from Maryland died Saturday morning after his car hit a traffic signal pole, according to information released by the Fairfax County Police Department today (March 26).
Police believe Johnny Nony Souvannavong of Upper Marlboro, Md. was driving his Subaru eastbound on Baron Cameron Avenue near Hunter Mill Road when his car’s tire went off into the roadway.
Souvannavong lost control of the car, which crossed over to the eastbound lanes, the center median and westbound lanes. The car then crashed into a traffic signal pole.
The driver was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The crash is still under investigation. Speed may be a factor, according to the police department’s crash reconstruction unit.

Sabino Vasquez-Murcia, a 29-year-old Herndon resident, was killed on Saturday when a car struck a parked vehicle he was sitting in on Saturday night. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office identified him as the victim of the crash today.
The driver, Julio Rivera, 39-year-old Herndon resident, lost control of his car and hit the parked car and a townhouse on the 700 block of Colonial Avenue in Sterling, the sheriff’s office said. The crash happened around 10:45 p.m.
Vasquez-Murcia was taken to Reston Hospital where he later passed away. The townhouse sustained minor damages and no one was injured inside, according to the report.
Rivera has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, DUI and driving on a suspended license. He is currently being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on no bond, the sheriff’s office said.

A Reston Association recreation area is in need of repair after a vehicle crash over the weekend.
Don Gotthardt of the Fairfax County Police Department says the incident that damaged the Barton Hill Recreation Area took place just after 6:15 p.m. Saturday.
“It appears that a black Ford Explorer hit the fence near the tennis courts,” Gotthardt said. “When officers arrived, the vehicle was unoccupied. They towed it and are most likely following up.”
The Barton Hill tennis courts have been closed for resurfacing since last week, and they were unoccupied at the time of the crash. There is a good deal of property damage that will need to be fixed, however.
“We had damage to the Barton Hill Recreation sign, a trash can was demolished and the entry gate was badly damaged,” said Mike Leone, RA’s communications director. “Our original plan was to reopen the courts June 15, but that date may change because we now have to wait for the fence contractors to provide us with a repair timeline.”
A 40-year-old woman was arrested for drunk driving after police said she hit the cruiser of Fairfax County police chief Edwin C. Roessler Jr. in Centreville last night, giving him minor injuries.
Christie A. Edgar of Centreville was taken into police custody and charged with driving while intoxicated following the collision at Lee Highway and Stone Road about 8:40 p.m. Monday.
The chief was stopped at a red light in his unmarked 2017 Ford Explorer when authorities said the woman rear-ended him with her Nissan sport utility vehicle.
Roessler was brought to a local hospital for treatment and released late last night. He was back at work this morning.

(Update: 10 a.m. – Fairfax County Parkway has reopened)
A car crash investigation has closed all lanes of the Fairfax County Parkway near New Dominion Parkway as of 9:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Fairfax County Fire Rescue and Fairfax County Police are both at the scene.
Additionally, there is a crash being removed from Reston Parkway and Fox Mill Road as of 9:35 a.m. so steer clear of that area as well.
Reston Now will have more details as they are available.
Update, 5 p.m.: The road has been reopened.
A car crash with injuries has closed Reston’s Wiehle Aenue in both directions as of about 3:30 p.m., Fairfax County Fire and Rescue says.
The accident occurred at Wiehle and Inlet Court, officials said.
The road will be shut down “for an unknown amount of time,” fire and rescue said.
According to scanner reports, one person was transported to Reston Hospital Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Reston Now will have more details when they are available.

A man was killed Saturday morning in a one-car crash on Walker Road in Great Falls.
Officers from the Fairfax County Police’s Reston District Station responded  to the 1100 block of Walker Road around 7:30 a.m. They found a 2004 convertible that had been involved in the crash.
Officer determined that a 28-year-old man had been driving the car northbound on Walker Road, when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle left the roadway, hit a dirt berm, overturned several times, and came to rest.
The driver, identified as Henry H. Sterne of Alexandria, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and pronounced deceased by medical staff. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
Preliminary information suggests that speed appears to be a factor in this crash.

This is the second one-car fatal crash in the Great Falls area in the last several weeks. On July 20, a 24-year-old man swerved to avoid an oncoming car on Riverbend Road, hit a tree and was killed when he was ejected from the vehicle.
