Local police are searching for a Herndon man who may be endangered due to mental or physical health issues.
James Hampson, 52, was last seen on Oct. 29 near the 700 block of Center Street in Herndon. It is possible he may be in the Aldie area, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
He is roughly 6’1” and weight 180 pounds. He may also be in a Black 2002 Ford Expedition with Virginia tags VXJ -9037.

Fairfax County police stations will collect unused or expired medications during its “Operation Medicine Cabinet Cleanout” on Saturday (Oct. 27). Residents can drop off medicine like pills or liquids between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at any of the county’s eight district police stations.
The take-back program offers residents a safe method for disposing of prescriptions drugs in a way that is closely monitored by state, local and federal government agencies, according to FCPD.
The initiative is made possible with partnerships with county departments like police, health, neighborhood and community services, public works, environmental services, and the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board.
Disposal is free and confidential. No pressurized canisters and needles can be disposed of, however.
The drop-off site for Reston is 1801 Cameron Glen Drive.

Pedestrian and bicyclist safety is on the radar of local police at the Reston District Station, particularly as the area becomes more urbanized.
In response to an increase in accidents involving vehicles and pedestrians during the summer, local police officers launched a public safety campaign. Although the campaign was focused on educating the public instead of enforcing violations, local police offered tips about safety, including obeying traffic signals and using traffic laws, to more than 1,000 residents.
The public safety campaign ran from June 4 through the end of the summer following the death of a 71-year-old pedestrian who was hit by a car in May. Police officers met with hundreds of residents to promote pedestrian safety and distribute literature in order to reduce accidents.
Accidents between pedestrians and cars have become more frequent, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
FCPD’s first priority was areas where pedestrian and car accidents have happened in the past. Other areas that were targeted have heavy traffic and pedestrian crosswalks, Sgt. Aaron Pfeiff told Reston Now.
“The public was very appreciative of the officer’s efforts and it was noticed that more pedestrians and bicyclist were obeying traffic signals and using crosswalks,” Pfeiff said.

The Fairfax County Police Department is investigating an indecent exposure incident that took place on Wednesday (Oct. 10) on the 11700 block of Sunrise Valley Drive.
A woman went out to take the trash when she saw a man expose himself to her. The victim called her boyfriend, who attempted to find the man. Police described the man as a white man with a medium build, between 30 and 40 years of age, and between 5’7” and 5’8”. He has curly, reddish-brown hair, and was wearing glasses. The investigation is ongoing.
Two home burglaries were reported on Thursday (Oct. 11). Local police responded to an alarm on the 1100 block of Mountain Hope Court at around 1:32 p.m. to discover that someone broke into the home. Property was stolen.
Another burglary on the 9700 block of Lindsay Blake Lane was reported the same day at around 6:20 p.m. The victim came home to find that several items had been taken. Both incidents are under investigation.

An armed man was arrested on Thursday (March 22) after hitting a police officer with his fist and spitting on him, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
Police arrested Carlos Cherry, 37, at the intersection of Elm Tree Drive and Sycamore View Lane in the Herndon area around 4:15 p.m.. Police said Cherry appeared to be intoxicated. He was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, brandishing a firearm and intoxication in public.
In a separate incident on Friday (March 23) around noon, a resident found a window broken and items from inside a home on the 12000 block of Laurel Glade Court.
On Sunday, police pursued a wanted individual from Hampton on the 13100 block of Worldgate Drive. After a chase, the suspect, Warren Wendell Maxwell, 25, was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest.
In a separate incident on Sunday, Ricardo Sanchez was charged with strangulation and attempted sexual assault. The incident occurred on the 1200 block of Bicksler Court, according to the Herndon Police Department.

Yesterday, we also reported that a Maryland man was killed over the weekend when he lost control over his car on Baron Cameron Avenue and hit a traffic signal pole. The cause of the incident remains under investigation. Alcohol was not a factor, police said.

Fairfax County Police are still looking for a suspect in the fatal hit-and-run on North Shore Drive on Aug. 28.
Police previously released a picture of what is believed to be a yellow Ford Escape with possible front end damage on the driver’s side that is believed to be the car that hit Hung Soon Seo, 76.
Seo was crossing North Shore Drive at North Village Road about 5 p.m. on Aug. 28 when she was hit by a vehicle that did not stop, according to authorities.
Said one commenter, who said he witnessed the crash, on a previous Reston Now post about this incident:
We arrived on the scene immediately after the incident and my ‘significant other’ (a nurse) attempted to assist the victim.
Absolutely no excuse for the driver leaving the scene. Unless intoxicated there is no way the driver did not known (s)he hit someone.
That being said, easy to see how the accident occurred. Because of the angle and brightness of the sun we didn’t realize there was a person lying in the street and a couple of other people standing by her until we were partially through the intersection. Only a measure of luck prevented another accident.
