Meet Raschka, a Husky mix currently in a foster home. She is searching for her forever home.
Here is what the people at New Love Animal Rescue have to say about her:
Meet Rashcka! Raschka is a 2 1/2 year old Husky mix. She loves to snuggle and lounge around the house.
Raschka is great with other dogs and cats as well. She loves to greet you when you get home and it’s usually her most excited part of the day. She loves getting brushed and petted — anything as long as someone is touching her! She also enjoys wrestling with other household pets.
Like most shelter dogs, Raschka may need a refresher on housetraining. Raschka is spayed.
Raschka’s adoption fee is $380. If you are interested, please fill out an adoption application.
Are you and Raschka a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you $100 in Becky’s Bucks, as well as some treats.

This week’s Reston Pet of the Week Big Boy, an American Staffordshire Terrier mix who is being sponsored by Safe Haven Puppy Rescue and is available for adoption.
Here is what his people at Safe Haven have to say about Big Boy:
Big Boy is a truly amazing dog who wants NOTHING more than to worship the ground his person walks on. This is a dog who will be by your side, give you hugs, play with you when you want to be silly and be quiet and mellow when you want to just veg.
He loves, loves, loves to share a bed, if allowed, or is happy to lie next to you on a dog bed. Big Boy knows a repertoire of tricks, including sit, stay, come, shake, and sit pretty. He is quiet — not a barker. At this point, he remains at the shelter in South Carolina and has been a shelter dog for three years. At present, there is no foster home for him, but he is available for adoption to an approved adopter.
Big Boy gets along well with female dogs of similar size, and some male dogs who are not dominant or in his face. Or, he is more than happy to be an only dog.
He loves to go for car rides, and is even a good rider on a golf cart. Big Boy is about 5-6 years old, and about 60 lbs.
If you feel you have the perfect home for this very special boy, please email: [email protected].
His adoption fee is $200.
Are you and Big Boy a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you $100 in Becky’s Bucks, as well as some treats.

This week’s Reston Pet of the Week is Hope, a 4-year-old Terrier/American Staffordshire mix who needs a forever home. Here is what her people at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter have to say about her:
Hope [noun]: is defined as a feeling that something good will happen or be true. Hope’s new family is in for something REALLY good!
She is a bit quiet and shy with new people, but once she gets to know and trust you, she is a gentle, happy girl who wants nothing more than to be near her people.
Some of her favorite things include playing hide-and-seek, napping in the sunlight, keeping watch at the windows, and carrying her favorite toys with her wherever she goes.
She is housebroken, will quietly sleep on her dog bed (although she’d prefer being next to you in the human bed), and is a great walking companion. She still needs some work building her confidence and being comfortable with new situations and people, but she will be the perfect addition to a patient, calm, and loving home.
If you’d like to see Hope in action, check out some of her YouTube videos at
Hope is currently staying with a foster family who says she has captured their hearts! If you are interested in meeting this sweet girl, please email us as [email protected] for more information.
Thanks to a sponsor, Hope’s adoption is free.

Meet this week’s Reston Pet of the Week Nanuk, a dog who needs a new home. Here is what the people at the Humane Society of Fairfax County have to say about him:
What could possibly be cuter than a Pug and Shih Tzu mix? Nanuk, of course, since he is a Pug and Shih Tzu mix.
He’s 4 yrs old, weights about 30 pounds, has a tan and white coat and is absolutely gorgeous. He takes a minute or so to warm up to people, but within seconds is in your lap. He’s good with other dogs and loves to play. He has short legs, a long body and adorable expressions. Come and meet this cutie patootie before someone else is getting tons of kisses.
For more information or to see Nanuk, submit an online dog adoption application. After reviewing the application, staff will contact you, typically within 48 hours, to make an appointment to visit the farm where our dogs and horses are kept.

Here is what her grandowner Grace has to say about her:
Hayden is visiting Reston this summer from Colorado! Born in a Rocky Mountain barn, she was adopted from the Denver Dumb Friends League. Don’t be fooled, even though she’s from Bronco country, Hayden is a faithful Redskins fan!
Our adventurous kitty has a zest for life and loves snuggling on the puuurfect lap. Her favorite toys are handmade finger puppets from the Lake Anne Plaza Farmers Market. She’s enjoying her summer in Reston, especially all of the birds and squirrels that she watches from the window.
Hayden and her people will get some treats and $100 in Becky’s Bucks from our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care.

Meet Apple Jack, a small shepherd mix who needs a forever home. Here is what his friends at Safe Haven Puppy Rescue have to say about him:
Little Apple Jack is a total lover who is in foster care in Northen Virginia. He just wants to be with his people and shower them with affection — even some puppy kisses!
He’s laid back, not the least bit alpha, so we think he’d do great in many different adoptive situations. We were told he had some kind of smaller shepherd in him along with maybe a touch of Jack Russell, but it seems like the shepherd side won the genetic war because this boy is a pretty mellow fellow.
We think he might be around 25 pounds or so when grown, so if you’re looking for a smaller dog who would bond with you and be a great best friend, Apple Jack is your man.
Apple Jack is up to date on all shots and dewormings, and carries an adoption fee of $329. We can also have him micro chipped for only $25 additional. This extremely friendly fella is going to bring lots of joy to some lucky adopters, so don’t delay, get your application in to your coordinator Bob at [email protected].
Are you and Apple Jack a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you $100 in Becky’s Bucks, as well as some treats.

Tucker is a very loving little boy who gets along with other dogs He loves people and is looking for a new person to call his own.
Tucker is up to date on all his shots and has been neutered. He has an adoption fee of $325 ,which includes micro-chip.

Donovan is a one- to two-year-old boy who is on the thin side at about 40 lbs. He came from a rural shelter that was brimming full and we knew he probably wouldn’t make it out if we didn’t take him.
How can you deny that face?? Donovan is very shy and badly needs a loving foster or forever home to help him learn the world can be a wonderful place.

Meet Liberty, a young Collie in need of a forever home who is this week’s Reston Pet of the Week. Here is what her friends at Collie Rescue Inc. have to say about her:
Meet Liberty! Isn’t she a major cutie? She is a mix of various breeds, and sometimes those make the cutest pups!
Liberty is a young gal who is about 1-to-2 years old and weighs 20 pounds. Liberty is sweet and gentle. Everyone who meets her falls in love because she is such a cuddle bug. Even though she is a puppy, she is not high energy and does not require a ton of exercise to wear her out. However, she does like to run around and play each day, especially with her toys.
She loves to play with other dogs, and we are hoping to find her a home where she will have another young dog to play with. She also would do best in a home without younger children. She also likes to nibble on some things, which is normal for a puppy like her.
Overall, Liberty loves to be the center of loving attention! We are teaching Liberty to walk on a leash and get acclimated to new sights and sounds. She gets nervous in new surroundings and around new dogs, but once she learns that everything will be OK, she eases right in and joins in on the fun! She will be a wonderful ‘cuddle bug’ for a loving family!
Contact CRI if you’re interested in learning more about Liberty. If you are interested in rescuing a collie, please complete the short adoption questionnaire. Our standard adoption fee is $350. This fee helps us to cover the expense of providing each dog with a Health Exam, Rabies/DHPP vaccines, Heartworm Test, Heartworm Preventative, Flea & Tick Protection, Microchip, Neuter/Spay, and a bath.
Are you and Liberty a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you $100 in Becky’s Bucks, as well as some treats.

This week’s Pet of the Week is Max, a 10-year-old, 75-pound Labrador Retriever who has a happy forever home in Reston.
Here is what his owner Michael has to say about him:
Dad told mom the last thing we need in our house is a dog. The next day mom brought home Max. Dad was angry for about ten minutes. But now the neighbors say Dad and Max are inseparable since they hardly ever see one without the other.
Dad says Max is the best dog in the universe mainly because Max will get dad’s slippers from his bedroom and his newspapers from the end of the driveway. Max will even get his leash without Dad asking!
Max keeps us safe from deer, groundhogs, and foxes. Kitty likes it best when Max chases off the foxes. Dad says Max puts the fear of Dog into them. Max’s favorite things to do are dinner, breakfast, swimming, and just hanging and being handsome. Dad also likes Max because he will always go on walks even if it’s 11 degrees outside or raining and 35.
It’s true that for many people the last thing they need in their house is a dog. Dogs just can’t be left alone. But some people who could take care of a dog, don’t even know what they are missing. Just ask Dad!

This week’s Reston Pet of the Week is Johnson, an older guy who needs a forever home.
Here is what the people at Homeward Trails Animal Rescue have to say about the hound/Lab mix:
Johnson is an awesome 50 lb. hound/lab mix dog. He is outgoing and friendly and happy to make friends with children, dogs and cats.
He’s a mature boy — not quite 9 years old — but full of life. He’s a bouncy boy who is calm in the house but loves walks. Johnson is an enthusiastic, happy boy. He is housetrained. He is not a fan of the crate — he prefers to find a nice spot to hang out in the home.
Johnson would be happy in a home with other dogs or as an only dog. He’s lived with cats as well as with dogs. He’s really gentle with children.
Johnson’s fantastic personality saved his life. Johnson was found as a stray and brought to a rural shelter. Being a mature and larger-size hound normally would have weighed heavily against his odds of getting out of the shelter alive. But Johnson quickly won the hearts of the shelter staff who make it their mission to save this charming, good natured and friendly gent.
Johnson is now eagerly looking forward to finding his new home. He hopes to find a home where he won’t be alone too much — he loves human companionship.
Johnson is in a foster home and is eagerly waiting to find his forever home.
Johnson’s adoption fee is $275. Please fill out an HT adoption questionnaire if you are interested.
Are you and Johnson a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you $100 in Becky’s Bucks, as well as some treats.

Meet River, an older dog who is this week’s Reston Pet of the Week. Here is what his friends at Homeward Trails Animal Rescue have to say about him:
River is an adorable male lab mix. Our best guess the mix includes American Bulldog. He’s estimated to be about 7 years old.
River is a gentle giant, weighing in at 70 lbs., thogh he probably could stand to shed a pound or two. River is as sweet as sweet gets. His favorite thing is belly rubs and relaxing.
As he’s an older gentleman, he’s pretty calm but he still enjoys playing with his toys! He likes to play catch with a ball and he knows basic commands like sit, come, stay. He is house trained. He’s a wonderful boy and he gets along well with other dogs and seems fine with cats.
This nice boy somehow lost his home — he was brought to a rural shelter as a stray.
River’s adoption fee is $300. If you are interested please visit Homeward Trails to fill out an adoption form at email it to [email protected]. You can also request to meet a Homeless Trail animal at an adoption event HT holds every Saturday and Sunday at the at the Homeward Trails Adoption Center, 11116 Fairfax Station Road, Fairfax Station.

Meet Duncan, an exuberant 3-month-old retriever mix pup in need of a forever or permanent foster home. Here is what his temporary foster family has to say about him:
Hi, my name is Duncan and I am a handsome fella don’t you think? I am a big-footed goofy kind of dude because I am a large puppy!
I am currently living in a temporary foster home and I would really like to find a permanent foster or, better yet, my very own family. I live with other dogs and kids right now and sometimes I get these things call play dates with other dogs too. So I fit in just about anywhere (except your lap when I am fully grown).
I love my bath time, it’s just like swimming I LOVE to play ball. Overall, I am a fun-loving little boy and I’m ready for join my forever family learning that stuff my temp foster is teaching me called puppy manners.
Just remember, I am an active pup in my early years so I will need someone home during the day. Bummed to say but if you work a 9-to-5 job outside the home, I am not the best fit, and if you want to adopt me you will need to provide proof of a multi-times a day dog walker to come visit me while you are gone. This is due to a puppy’s need for attention and frequent bathroom breaks. This applies to dogs under 5 months of age.
Like most shelter dogs, Duncan may need a refresher on housetraining. Duncan has been spayed/neutered.
Duncan’s adoption fee is $380. He will have routine vetting: DAPPv, Bordetella, Rabies, Worming, Microchip and additional vetting as necessary. To inquire, fill out an adoption application at New Love Animal Rescue.
Are you and Duncan a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you $100 in Becky’s Bucks, as well as some treats.

Teeny and his three siblings are two-month-old kittens ready for their forever homes. Here is what rescue group Fancy Cats Rescue Team has to say about him:
Teeny and his siblings (Quick, Speedy, and Maman) were born on Feb. 26, 20116.
He is ready for his new forever home now! Teeny is a handsome little guy. He is incredibly sweet and loving. He is very calm, and quiet, sometimes sudden movements scare him.
He loves to sleep on the bed, and loves to play with feathers. He will snuggle on your legs when you watch TV on the couch.
Teeny would likely do best with a confident and outgoing kitty friend, who can continue to show him how to be brave.
Please note that it is Fancy Cats policy that kittens be adopted in pairs or have an age-appropriate playmate in the home already. We also do not adopt kittens to families with children under six years old without seeing appropriate history/experience with cats.
