ANGEL

This week’s Pet of the Week is Angel, a small older dog who needs a forever home. Here is what the good people at Mutt Love Rescue have to say about her:

Poor Angel found herself homeless after her human had to go to a nursing home.

She is a 10-year-old miniature pinscher who, while well loved, was not cared for properly. As you can see by her pictures, Angel was carrying around some extra lbs. when we got her, but she has lost half of her original weight and is now at her target weight of 15 lbs!

While on paper, she may be considered a senior, she still has a lot of spunk! The whole back half of her body wiggles when she wags her non-existent tail. You’ve got to see it.. it’s really cute! Angel is a volunteer favorite and we would love to see her in a wonderful new home.

We have adoption events EVERY SATURDAY from 12-3 p.m. Please note that not all dogs can attend every event, so if you are interested in meeting a particular dog, please complete a no-obligation application on our websiteOR write to [email protected].

Are you and Angel a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you $100 in Becky’s Bucks, as well as some treats.

This week’s Pet of the Week is temporary Restonain Kate, a mixed breed who is currently being fostered here. Her foster parents are hoping to find her a permanent home nearby. Here is what they have to say:

Kate is a bluetick coonhound / beagle mix who was rescued from a high-kill shelter in southern Virginia by Homeward Trails Animal Rescue.  Her foster family lives in Reston.

Kate had never been to Reston before her foster family picked her up from the Homeward Trails adoption center, but she is really enjoying her stay so far.  Her foster family hopes she can find an adoptive home in the area so she can become a permanent Restonian!

Kate’s exercise needs are low to moderate, but she is always happy to go on a nature walk. During the week she enjoys walking along the network of Reston paths near her foster family’s home. On the weekends, she likes to go hiking at Lake Fairfax or other local parks. Kate walks nicely on a leash and loves to greet other friendly dogs.

Kate really loves other dogs and gets along well with her foster “sister.” Kate seems to gain confidence from canine companions so she may be happiest in a home with another calm dog. She is not looking to be the alpha dog and knows to respect her “sibling’s” food.  She also loves to snuggle up with her foster family, human and canine alike.

A nice bonus of Kate living in a foster home is that she has learned her “dog manners.” She is house trained and crate trained. She does not bark nor chew inappropriate objects. She knows “sit” and “down” and is working on “stay.” She sleeps quietly overnight for 8-9 hours without having to go out for a break. She has been a great house guest and has really captured our hearts during her stay.  Perhaps she could capture yours too?

Do you want to meet Kate? Contact Homeward Trails.

Are you and Kate a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you $100 in Becky’s Bucks, as well as some treats.

KB

Meet KB, a senior Collie who needs a new home and is this week’s Pet of the Week.

Here is what the people at Collie Rescue Inc. have to say about him:

KB is looking for a permanent foster home through the Collie Companions Care Program at Collie Rescue Inc.

KB is a handsome guy looking for a new place to call home. CRI recently rescued him, and we believe he is about 10 years old or more, but he still has plenty of energy and a healthy appetite.

Because of his older age, he is a bit hard of hearing. But that doesn’t stop him from finding ways to understand you. When he sees the leash come out, he gets a big smile on his face and know it’s time for a w-a-l-k!

He’s currently in a foster home where he is settling in and checking things out. KB has lots of curiosity and loves to investigate everything around the house, including the other dogs who live at his foster home. He gets along with both dogs and cats.

KB is very well house-trained and sleeps through the night, especially when a comfortable dog bed is involved.

There are two things we know KB loves. First, he loves butt scratches! He likes them so much that he almost falls over when he leans into them. Second, he loves feeling the breeze in his hair! When driving, he likes to stick his face out the window and smell the air whipping by.

This old man may have some years on him, but he is adorable and full of gratitude. He just needs a family who can provide him with tons of love back! Could you be the one? Contact us at Collie Rescue, Inc. to learn more about the requirements of adopting.

Are you and KB a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you $100 in Becky’s Bucks, as well as some treats.

This week’s Reston Pet of the Week is Buddy, a Collie mix who is looking for a home. Here is what the folks at Collie Rescue Inc. of Chantilly have to say about him:

Meet Buddy! We’re excited to help him find his new forever home. He’s a young boy who is a two-year-old collie mix.

Buddy truly is like your ‘buddy’ because he is a super friendly and outgoing guy and loves everyone he meets! He gets along great with other dogs and cats, and would do best in a home where there is another playful dog. With his youthful energy, he loves to play.

Although he enjoys being outside, he settles down nicely when inside and loves to hang out with family and give you lots of affection. He’s not just personality either; Buddy is really smart and athletic too.

He’s neutered, housebroken, crate trained, walks well on a leash, and rides well in cars. Buddy is a special guy who is tons of fun, and will make a loving addition to the right family.

Contact CRI if you are interested in learning more about Buddy. Our standard adoption fee is $350. This fee helps us to cover the expense of providing each dog with a Health Exam, Rabies/DHPP vaccines, Heartworm Test, Heartworm Preventative, Flea & Tick Protection, Microchip, Neuter/Spay, and a Bath. Thank you for your consideration in adopting a collie in need.

Are you and Buddy a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you $100 in Becky’s Bucks, as well as some treats.

Meet Dobbs, this week’s Reston Pet of the Week. Dobbs was recently rescued from a high-kill shelter and is looking for a permanent home.

Here is what the people at Reston’s Safe Haven Puppy Rescue have to say about the Boston Terrier/Basset Hound mix:

Dobbs could quite possibly be named Mr. Personality of the entire universe. No lie. This little guy is one of the funniest, happiest, sweetest and most lovable dog we’ve ever met, and he will only go to a home that thinks so too.

Dobbs was rescued from a high-kill shelter where he most likely would not have had a chance. He was almost bald, his body was covered in crusty scabs from demodex, a non contagious, but potentially life threatening issue. All he needed to do was to look up at us with his soft round eyes and we were hooked. We had to help him.

No sooner did we get him back to our facility that we saw his potential. EVERYONE fell in love with him. … He was so grateful to be out of a cold, cement kennel, and it showed.

He is now fully cured, healthy, neutered and is the most hysterical little love bug around.

If you want some sunshine in your life, a smile on your face every single day, and an adorable dog to love you from here to the moon and back — it is Dobbs. He is about 9 months old now, and weighs 23 lbs. He has short little legs, that run like the wind, he loves balls and toys, (not to mention treats) and can stand on his hind legs like a champ. This little guy is truly a special, special dog, who deserves a special, special family or person.

Contact [email protected] for more information.  Dobbs adoption fee is $325, although he is worth his weigh in gold. He has been neutered and fully vetted.

Are you and Dobbs a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you $100 in Becky’s Bucks, as well as some treats.

This week’s Reston Pet of the Week is Hank, a young Dachsaund mix who is looking for a forever home. Here is what the folks at Safe Haven Rescue have to say about him (in his own words):

My name is Hank, and I am a 1-year-old male Dachshund mix. I am a bigger boy at 22 lbs. I love toys and playing with my kennel mates. I get along with cats.

I also love to cuddle with anyone who will take the time to sit down with me. Are you looking for a handsome boy? Then look no further and request an application. Please contact the adoption coordinator, Dondra, at [email protected].

I am already neutered and up-to-date with all shots. My adoption fee is $325, which includes micro-chip.

Are you and Hank a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you $100 in Becky’s Bucks, as well as some treats.

This week’s Reston Pets of the Week are Leonna and Winchester, a mother-and-son duo who need a new home. Here is what the people at Home Stretch Animal Rescue have to say about them:

Leonna (female – more orange – 8 years old), and her son Winchester (male – lighter color – 7 years old) need a new home. They are both sweet cats who love affection.

They are indoor cats, healthy/fully-vaccinated, front-declawed, litter trained, and friendly with babies/children. They are not used to dogs, so would probably do best in a home without dogs.

They have supplies (including one fancy, expensive small cabinet that hides litter boxes and a nice cat-condo) that would come with them.

Are you and these cats a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you $100 in Becky’s Bucks, as well as some treats.

This week’s Reston Pet of the Week is Lucy Rocket, who lives with her people near Lake Audubon. Here is what her owner, Laura, has to say about her:

Lucy Rocket came to live with her family just over a year ago. Her mother was a Red Heeler and the rest is anybody’s guess.

Lucy’s likes include chasing sticks, squirrels, deer, foxes, and birds. She also loves to catch tennis balls, and she will get very focused if anyone has a ball (she almost never misses).

Dislikes include baths, turtles (rocks that move), and one neighborhood cat that charged her and made her run yelping all the way home.

Lucy Rocket can be found enthusiastically greeting others while walking the trails of South Reston with her family or on the front of a paddle board on Lake Audubon in the spring and summer.

Lucy Rocket and Laura will receive $100 in Becky’s Bucks, as well as some treats, from our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care.

Here is what she has to say about him:

He loves just about anything he can get his paws on and gets so grumpy when we go out in the rain and snow.

This week’s Reston Pets of the Week are Honey and Merlin, siblings who have given their owner a lot of love over 11 years. Here is what owner Matt has to say:

Honey and her brother, Merlin, both came from a litter on my aunt’s property in Pennsylvania. She woke up one morning to find them all in her shed out back.  By the time I adopted Honey and Merlin, the other four kittens were already adopted. These two were inseparable, so my aunt was hoping they could wind up together. I took them home, listening to Honey meow through her cage as I repeated over and over again not to worry — I’d take care of her now.

Honey was much more reserved and it was months before she let me pet her.  Once she did, there was no going back. She became my shadow for 11 years. In a lot of ways, she was my first real love. She forced herself next to my body every night to sleep no matter how much I fought. She woke to eat breakfast with me, watched TV with me, and and has waited by the door for me to return home every day.

One month ago, she was diagnosed with cancer, so we’re in our final weeks together and I’m doing my best to live in the moment and appreciate the time I have, as opposed to focusing on the what the future holds. She’s been there for every new home, new girlfriends, the death of family members, the birth of my son, holidays, etc.

In 11 years, she’s gone from a feral cat in a shed to one of the most important lives to have crisscrossed with mine. Because her brother Merlin was always the more outgoing of the two, he always stole the spotlight with guests — but I’ve shared a secret, silent, and mutual adoration with Honey for 11 years and I thought it might be her time to be in the spotlight in Reston.

Honey, Merlin and Matt will receive $100 in Becky’s Bucks, as well as some treats, from our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care. Also, best wishes to Honey as she battles her illness.

Meet Indianna Jones, this week’s Pet of the Week. Indianna, a pug, lives in Reston with her people. Melissa and Phil. Here is what Melissa has to say about her:

Indianna Jones , or Indy as she is known to most, is a charismatic 4-year old fawn pug. From a very early age Indy has lived up to her name.

She was born in the Shenandoah mountains on a pug farm with five other brothers and sisters. My husband and I always like to say that we didn’t pick her, she picked us. Within her first few weeks of life she wandered right into a storm drain and had to be rescued through a manhole. Her only sustaining injury is her ongoing fear of any sewer drains she spots while on a walk. She avoids them at all costs! (Can you blame her???)

Indy loves walks around Reston Town Center and Lake Anne Plaza. She has traveled the country and spent time hiking and exploring in Washington State, Colorado, Iowa, and West Virginia. Indy is a pure delight and is loved by everyone who meets her! Her weaknesses are bananas and peanut butter and her strengths are her unconditional love and fetching regular-size tennis balls.

Indianna Jones and her owners will receive $100 in Becky’s Bucks, as well as some treats, from our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care.

This week’s Reston Pet of the Week is Treat, a little kitty who was found around Halloween. The volunteers at Fancy Cats Rescue Team have been caring for him. Here is what they have to say:

Treat and his siblings, Trick, Pumpkin and Candy, were found without their mom on Halloween, and we estimate they were around 2 weeks old.

Treat is very outgoing and curious and has no fear! He leads the litter in most new activities and is willing to try anything. When he slows down long enough he is very affectionate and purrs up a storm. Being a bottle-fed baby, he and his siblings love people and are very trusting. They are friendly with everyone and are happy to be picked up and carried around, so they would do GREAT with kids over 6!

Although Treat has not been around a dog, we think he could adjust to a gentle one easily. He and his siblings are bonded and he would love to go home with one of them.

As you can see in his pictures he is a handsome little guy with that gorgeous cream colored fur. We are sure he will be adored by the lucky family that adopts him! Come meet him and be prepared to fall in love.

Please note that it is Fancy Cats policy that kittens be adopted in pairs or have an age-appropriate playmate in the home already. We also do not adopt kittens to families with children under 6 years old without seeing appropriate history/experience with cats.

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application and a representative will get back to you shortly to answer any questions you may have.

Are you and Treat a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you $100 in Becky’s Bucks, as well as some treats.

This week’s Pet of the Week is Gus, a Boxer-Bassett mix rescue dog who is now living the good life at Reston Town Center. Here is what his owner, Keith, has to say about him:

Augustus, or Gus as he is known, may be one of the most talked-about dogs in the Reston Town Center.

Since I adopted him a couple of months ago from the Lost Dog and Cat Society of Arlington, he has many people asking questions of “just what type of dog is he? or “Look, it’s the Oompa Loompa of Boxers.”

No, he is not part wiener dog. He has floppy ears like a basset and a strong chest like a boxer. He loves our daily walks around the Reston Town Center circle and seeing all the people. He also loves playing with friends, including his doggie roommate Gus (yes there are two Gus’ in one condo).

Gus is a HUGE fan of snuggling during the winter, and at night you can find him stealing both the blankets (plus half the bed) so that his owner is left freezing.

Gus is the reason why everyone should consider rescuing a dog. I cannot believe Gus was actually in a high-kill shelter before he was rescued by the Lost Dog and Cat Society. Gus has been a great companion, and adjust to life of living in Reston. I am lucky to have him!

Gus and Keith (and the other Gus) will receive $100 in Becky’s Bucks, as well as some treats, from our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care.
