A man was beaten and robbed by men he encountered at a Reston laundromat this week, police reported Wednesday.

According to a statement from the Reston District, the male victim was doing his laundry at a laundromat in Hunters Woods Plaza around 11 p.m. on Sunday. Police said 10 other man were in the laundromat at the time.

The victim told police one of the men approached him and challenged him to “some type of physical game.” The victim agreed and left the laundromat with the 10 men. The group reportedly went to a nearby wooded area.

While in the woods, all 10 men reportedly assaulted the victim, beating him, and then took his wallet and other personal items he had on him.

Police said an investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

  • “he victim agreed”

I think we need a strong state and better health care to protect the mentally challenged.

      Look who’s talking!

Maybe i can teach you the ten commandments, just let me know

“The victim agreed and left the laundromat with the 10 men.”

Ah. I think I see where he went wrong.

    Key takeaways:
    1) laundromat in Hunters Woods

    This was his first mistake…

    2) around 11 p.m.

You are looking for trouble @ 11pm in Hunters Woods

    3) challenged him to “some type of physical game.” The victim agreed and left the laundromat with the 10 men…. nearby wooded area.

What are you F*CKING STUPID. You got what you deserved.

    Darwin out…

    • Heh

Can’t fix stupid, but maybe 10 guys can beat it out of you.

  • meh

Violence and crime in Hunters Woods? Color me surprised.

    ¿Cómo dices malas noticias?

    • Chuck Morningwood

      Moticia. You spoke Spanish!!!

    • Mike M

Beat me to the punch. So, I’ll just say this never happened in this highly misunderstood neck of the woods. Crime never happens here and only racists say so. This event is simply Trumpian propaganda. Never happened.

  • Ted Gebis

I work hard and paid a small fortune to live in a decent neighborhood. These thugs are rolling out of subsidized apartments here. I’m tired of picking up the bill for slackers. ICE should pay a visit to the laundromat on Sunday evenings.

    • Greg

Are they (the thugs) Shadowood residents?

      • meh

Of course they are. i wish someone would buy up all that property, demolish it and put in some green space or some fancy condos

        • Reston Resident

Stop voting for dem’s and maybe that will happen.

          • Constitutional Conservative

I thought the current issue with Reston was Dems allowing too much construction.

      • Mike M

Perhaps not residents, but rather babby daddy sponging off momma. It’s a way of life in Reston.

    • Why do you bother?

And you know who these people are and where they live how?

      • SuperCoop1280

I sincerely doubt they walked all the way from Ring Road.

        • Why do you bother?

You might try something called a “fact” once in a while. It may turn out that you are correct, but until you actually know, you’re just race-baiting.

          • Found The Racist

You’re the one that brought up race…

          • The Constitutionalist

93% of your posts are you talking about race.

    • Wil Villatoro-Reyes

Why!?? Because of your racism?!!! Who’s says only immigrants do this!! At least immigrants ain’t in the news about shooting killing hundreds of people!!! …..Sh*t!!!!!!

    • Tom

I used to defend the Hunters Woods area because I live about a half mile (as the crow/walking path flies) from it but I’ve seen enough sketchy characters recently (particularly around Rite-Aid at certain times in the evening), to finally accept reality. I’m not moving anytime soon (fortunately the area I live in is relatively safe) but I’m certainly more aware of how things really are around that area.

      • Mike M

Welcome to reality, Tom. We are glad you are here.

  • Heh

The victim told police one of the men approached him and challenged him to “some type of physical game.”

The name of the game was, “Yo gimme yo money and phone, beyatch.”

    • Reston Realist

Most likely the game was… Let’s see who can take the biggest hit off of this pipe

  • Julie H-H

Having poor judgment does not absolve the crime. Maybe the victim was naive or hoping to make some friends, but that does not mean he deserved to have violence perpetrated against him- or to be robbed. Nice victim blaming.

    • Why do you bother?

I would ordinarily agree, but this incident sounds more like “walked in front of a speeding bus and was shocked to be run over.” At some point, we have to use a brain cell.

  • JoeInReston

Could you be any more stupid?

Of course I am talking about the perpetrators! 10 men – one of them is bound to be recognized and found, or blurt his big mouth to a somebody else that will narc them out – picking up a guy in a shopping center store to rob him, a place that likely has camera’s around.

Had they just beaten the guy up and not stolen his wallet and possessions, they could probably claim it was mutually agreed upon rough housing. A jury might reluctant to convict for anything other than a misdemeanor given the victim’s stupidity and consent to physical activity. But with the theft, its much more black and white. And what value is there to robbing a guy at a laundry mat? That’s not where the money is.

    Complete idiots indeed.

They need to just have a dozen police patrolling Hunters Woods 24/7.

Ya’ll need to just delete your comment section, it is always full of uninformed hatred that I can only hope is coming from Russian troll-bots although it sounds like good old red-blooded American ignorance to me

    • TheKingJAK

      Oh no, those evil Russians.

      • Mike M

Yeah. If it weren’t for those dang Russian ads I would have voted for Hilary! 😉

    • The Constitutionalist

It’s been 286 days now and you’re still talking about the Russians. The Motherland sure has got to you hasn’t it, Comrade?

    • Why do you bother?

You had it right the second time.

    • Greg

And just look at you (ya’ll): posting your hateful blither taking up valuable comment space.

    • JosephSmithAmericanMoses

Uniformed hatred? We are simply commenting on the story is it unfolded. The demographics of the Hunters Woods area shows an ongoing trend.

It wasn’t a group of clean shaven Mormons beating this guy with a stack of Bibles.

    • 40yearsinreston

      You sound like a troll

    • Mike M

      “good old red-blooded American ignorance”

So, why do you hate America, Bethany “Joy.” Ihave been around the world and I find ignorance everywhere. There is less here than in most places.

  • vdiv

If you see a streetlight that does not work please report it:
Dominion is pretty good at fixing theirs, VDOT (intersections) not so much.

    • Greg

VDOT maintains some street lights in Reston — including those acorn lights on the Wiehle bridge and at intersections with brown poles with attached lights (Sunset Hills and Reston Parkway for example) and all freeway and toll road lighting — including the overhead sign and ramp lights.

VDOT-maintained lights usually have orange identification stickers on them; Dominion lights will have pole numbers on them, but with orange stickers.

      Report VDOT-maintained lighting outages here:

On another subject, I took my bedding and quilts to that same laundromat this past week for a good cleaning, and dammed if the wash ticket/passcard machine didn’t steal my dollar bills again. But my quilts came out super fresh and clean (hint: use the really big front loaders for best results).
