Demolition Underway in Reston Town Center to Make Way for 17-Story Tower

by Fatimah Waseem March 5, 2018 at 2:00 pm 12 Comments

Demolition is underway to make way for Boston Properties’ 17-story tower, the future home of Leidos Holdings.

The project, called 17Fifty (1750 Presidents Street), is the last office space to be built in the 86-acre urban core of RTC.

Shalom Baranes Associates will design 17Fifty, which includes 8,000 square feet of retail space and a four-floor, below-grade parking garage. It replaces a Block Five building that housed tenants like Fed Ex and Ann Taylor.

Construction is expected to begin this spring, with an estimated opening date of 2020.

The project is across from the Signature, a 508-unit apartment building. Balducci’s Food Lovers Market is expected to open this spring on the first floor.

A promotional video that provides a walkthrough of the redevelopment is below:

“The last office space to be built in the core of RTC” Why stop? There’s an open area right across from this- the ice rink is beggin for redevelopment.

Also, can we start calling it Reston office center or Reston corporate park? Hasn’t been a town center for quite some time…

      How about the Hudgens canyon

That made me laugh. Good one!

No kidding. She singlehandedly has destroyed Reston by lying and bullying to get code variances and changes on behalf of developers while ignoring the infrastructure needs the development requires. What I really don’t understand is why? Why not require infrastructure improvement before building like most municipalities? Maybe because the development is too much?

Not just the ice rink. They may as well gut the retail and redevelop. That may already be the plan.

    Another ‘iconic’ multistory tower
Why isnt it at least 25 stories ?

The tallest of the two Fannie Mae buildings in Town Center 2 is 30 stories.

It’s only a matter of time before the Clyde’s building goes.

What a shame. I much prefer the low-rise buildings (3-5 stories or so). And what a waste of materials. Shouldn’t they be required to remove the windows first, at least? Maybe donate them to ReStore for Businesses or Habitat for Humanity?

My goodness. I love reading these Reston Now comments sections. They crack me up. The same people who go on tirades about developers and the County NOT abiding by the Comprehensive Plan and building the wrong things are angry that an office building is being built in the middle of an office park / shopping center planned for…office and retail uses. How dare they?!

Btw, all of this was approved before Hudgins was a Board member. But let’s blame her anyway…good plan.

Hutches and BXP are the most hated in this town . Go cubs!

It’s okay with me that the Ann Taylor store is gone They never sold anything there that fit me anyway…your backside had to be super skinny to fit into anything they labeled a size 8.
