A new waiting area is available at the Wiehle-Reston East station.

Uber and Lyft drivers, as well as shuttle buses and vans, can use the lot, which was opened today, to drop off and pick up passengers, according to a release from Hunter Mill District Supervisor Cathy Hudgins.

Vehicles can enter the waiting area from Reston Station Boulevard off of Wiehle Avenue. Parking is allowed for 15 minutes only. Pedestrians can use the crosswalk at Reston Station Boulevard and Wiehle Avenue to access the waiting area.

Any unattended vehicles will be towed. Vehicles stopping and standing along Reston Station Boulevard will be ticketed.

“Pedestrians can use the crosswalk at Reston Station Boulevard and Wiehle Avenue to access the waiting area.“

They can, but they won’t. They will dart across the street between cars like they do now.

      Another Hudgins failure

For every pedestrian that does not use the crosswalk, there is a driver who does not yield or blocks the crosswalk.

The majority of both obey the rules.

    What about cabs? Remember them?

I think ride-sharing and shuttles are mentioned because they frequently don’t use the kiss-n-ride and instead choose to block traffic. This is great for private buses that would not fit.

There are generally one or two taxis waiting at the kiss-n-ride.

    • Why do you bother?

And individual cars picking someone up?

Who will notify the shuttle buses and vans to use this waiting area? As recently as this morning, the shuttle buses continue to block access to the Wiehle garage by parking in the inside, south lane of Reston Station Blvd. Traffic heading to the park and ride or kiss and ride can only use one lane. Posted signs there say no parking.

It looks smaller than the one at West Falls Church and that was packed all the time with people waiting it was utterly useless.

When are the bike lanes going in
