Fairfax County Schools Will Remain Closed Tomorrow

Fairfax County Public Schools will be closed tomorrow as a spring snow storm sweeps through the region.

Although snow fall is mainly over, the risk of refreezing is possible tonight.

Unsure if anyone noticed but after these big storms the air always seems very fresh. This time won’t be any different: 4,700 flights have been cancelled and traffic is reduced to the bare minimum. I think we need more of these freak storms.

      That’s not how it works.

Everything on earth is of mixed character, like a mingling of sand and sugar. Be like the wise ant which seizes only the sugar, and leaves the sand untouched.

I’ve learned that most analogies are terrible. Like that one.

No the air isn’t fresher, whatever that really means here. And it isn’t because people are staying off the roads or flights are grounded. One day isn’t enough for any pollutants in the atmosphere to suddenly drop out.

Everything that’s realistic has some sort of ugliness in it. Even a
flower is ugly when it wilts, a bird when it seeks its prey, the ocean
            when it becomes violent.

            hey “Nature”, cabin fever much?

Global warming is a hoax 🙂

Agree with Mike. They’re conditioning them to expect each time it snows, then no school.

So why do they close so readily? What does it tell the kids?

        • RestonAssurance

The superintendent makes the call based on drivable bus routes. Not all routes in the county are straight and clear as we have them in Reston.

I think Virginia is kinda dumb about how it calls off schools in the area on a county-wide basis, instead of leaving it to the districts. The roads here in Reston were mostly okay, but FFX has to call off school for the entire county because something farther out isn’t getting plowed in time. Same with Loudoun – I think Leesburg was alright, but out closer to Fauquier county the roads were awful.

They need to change how they call it for the schools, that would be the big fix. Doing it on a county-wide basis is stupid.

Perhaps kids might be able to get to school if folks shoveled their sidewalks. The ice this morning was treacherous! It’s not a legal requirement to do so but it would be helpful!

Might be nice when schools are closed if the kids would get off their phones & I pads & look for a job shoveling snow.

I dont care who does. Just that it gets done. I have full faith in Kids and ipads!
