Town of Herndon police arrested a resident for felonious strangulation and misdemeanor assault.
Police arrested 29-year-old Dennis Michael Markley on last Wednesday (March 20), the day after he allegedly tried to strangle someone he knows, police say.
He is currently being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

In February, Herndon police arrested 77-year-old Nhan Pham in connection with a domestic assault that caused her husband’s death, according to the Herndon Police Department.
As of March 18, the grand jury amended the charges to murder, according to the March 26 police report.

City of Fairfax police arrested a Herndon man after police received reports that his car rental had not been returned on time.
Police arrested the 32-year-old Herndon resident on the afternoon of March 7, the police report says.
He is currently being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on a secured bond of $1,000.

Fairfax County police recently arrested a Herndon man and charged him with seven larcenies in connection with a stash of guns and drug paraphernalia.
Two weeks ago, an officer smelled marijuana coming from a car, which had been sitting in the 12100 block of Sunset Hills Road for awhile, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
After speaking with the driver, Brandon Hernandez, 19, of Herndon, officers searched the car and discovered more than a pound of marijuana along with a handgun, ammunition, THC cartridges and cash, police say.
Police arrested Hernandez and the two passengers in the car — Kevin Fernandez, 20, of Herndon and Guillermo Alfaro, 20, of Reston.
FCPD then teamed up with the Herndon Police Department to obtain a search warrant for Hernandez’s home. Police say they ended up seizing seven loaded weapons, which have been linked to several burglaries and armed robberies in the area, and more than 450 THC vape pens.
Hernandez is currently being held without bond, and more charges are pending as detectives continue to investigate, according to police.

A Great Falls homeowner found on Sunday (March 10) a broken rear window and evidence that people had been inside the home, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
Police said that nothing of value was taken because the house in the 9700 block of Mill Run Drive was vacant.

Updated at 3:30 p.m. on March 13 — Police said a man entered the bank at 1:14 p.m., implied he had a gun and demanded money. He was given cash before leaving the bank on foot, according to the police report. Police also added a height range to the description of the suspect, saying that the man was “5’6″-5’7″ tall.”
Earlier: Just weeks after a robbery in late February, police are back at the BB&T Bank at 2513 Fox Mill Road in Reston investigating another robbery.
Police officers were on the scene at 2 p.m. today (March 12), the Fairfax County Police Department tweeted.
FCPD described the suspect as a “Middle Eastern man wearing black hat and black clothing,” adding that he left in a vehicle that was possibly a silver SUV or minivan.
People are advised to avoid the area.
The same bank was robbed on Feb. 21, according to police. Police are asking the public to help identify the suspect in that robbery, who was described as “light-skinned, 20 to 30 years old, 5’8″ tall, thin build, wearing a dark gray shirt, light-colored jacket and a gray cap,” according to a police report.

A homeowner near Reston found three unknown men standing in the home last Thursday (Feb. 28), according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
Police say the homeowner heard a noise coming from the back of the home in the 1400 block of Wynhurst Lane around 6:06 p.m. The three men “ran away after being startled by the homeowner,” the report says.
“All three males were dressed in dark clothing with hoods pulled over their heads,” according to the report.
No property was taken, according to the report.

Herndon police arrested and charged a 27-year-old Herndon man with burglary after they found him locked inside of a store in the 1000 block of Elden Street attempting to steal a case of beer on Friday (March 1).
The man told officers that he fell asleep in the bathroom before the store closed and was planning on leaving the store with the beer, according to the report. He was transported to the Fairfax Adult Detention Center where he was held without bond.

The queue of proposed projects for the Town of Herndon has two new items — plans for more police storage and a traffic signal along Elden Street.
Senior Planner Dana Heiberg presented the draft Capital Improvement Program (CIP) to the Town of Herndon’s Planning Commission last night (Feb. 25).
The draft CIP spans a six-year period from fiscal year 2020 to fiscal year 2025.
One new addition would give police officers more space to store police bicycles, bulky equipment and other police property. The CIP budgets the creation of the exterior garage at $700,000 from FY 2020 funding.
That isn’t the only police project. Another one would update police radio equipment as Fairfax County moves toward encryption technology.
Meanwhile, the second new project — a traffic signal at Elden Street by the Herndon Centre — originated from a developer proffer.
Heiberg also gave an overview of the 50 projects for this year — many of which he said are on-going ones from the FY 2019-FY 2024 CIP.
For this year, planning and permitting software will is set for implementation. The information technology project is supported by the town’s reserves.
Renovating the Bready Park tennis courts, which will include converting the lighting to LEDs, is a part of the 10 planned park projects.
Nine projects sponsored by community development are set to tackle street improvements; pedestrian and bike trail upgrades, including trails leading to Herndon’s metro station; and wayfinding signs and historic markers.
Public works-sponsored projects include:
- nine street or intersection improvements
- a storm drainage project
- major maintenance for buildings
- a road repaving program
- utility relocation downtown
The Herndon Centennial Clubhouse is also set for an expansion to take place over three phases. Once construction funding is decided upon in FY 2024, the renovation and expansion of the existing structure, which was built in the 1980s, will begin.
The General Fund projects for the six years in the draft CIP total $58.1 million, with about $6 million for FY 2020 General Fund projects. Grant funding will support most of the projects — acounting for 46 percent — while the General Fund will support a little over 20 percent, Heiberg said.
The Planning Commission voted 5-0 to recommend that the draft CIP move forward to the Town’s manager.

The Fairfax County Police Department is seeking the public’s help to identify a man suspected of robbing the BB&T Bank on Fox Mill Road yesterday.
The police department released a photo of the suspect today (Feb. 22).
Just before 2:30 p.m. yesterday (Feb. 21), a man entered the bank (2513 Fox Mill Road), implied he had a gun and demanded money, according to the police report. He was given cash and then fled on foot.
“The suspect is described as light-skinned, 20 to 30 years old, 5’8″ tall, thin build, wearing a dark gray shirt, light colored jacket and a gray cap,” according to the report.
Police arrived on scene and searched the area, according to the report. No one was injured.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Reston man on Valentine’s Day after he allegedly assaulted a woman in Sterling.
Deputies responded around 1 p.m. on Valentine’s Day to the 400 block of Bailey Court — the area where a female reported that a man she knows unlawfully entered her residence twice that day.
The man woke up the woman after entering her home in the morning and then fled with the woman’s purse after another resident in the home confronted him, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.
“He then returned later in the day and again entered the home unlawfully,” the report says, adding that the man grabbed the woman and would not allow her to use her phone to call for help.
“The suspect then pushed the victim and a brief altercation ensued” before the man fled the area, police say.
Police arrested 20-year-old Chester S. Wesley of Reston and charged him with two counts of burglary, two counts of simple assault, trespassing, stalking, petit larceny, grand larceny, abduction and robbery.
Wesley is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on no bond.

Herndon police are trying to find the armed robber who took off with an undisclosed amount of cash from a Herndon business.
The robber entered the business in the 1100 block of Crestview Drive shortly after midnight on Feb. 10, according to the Herndon Police Department. The suspect then “displayed a weapon and indicated to the victim he wanted cash” before getting away.
“The suspect is described as possibly a black male, wearing all black, a mask, and gloves,” according to the Herndon Police Department.
The case is currently under investigation.
Herndon police say an unknown number of suspects broke a basement window and entered a Herndon home in the 800 block of Locust Street sometime between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8. Nothing was reportedly taken from the home. Police are currently investigating the case.

Fairfax County Police tweeted that the closure is “due to a crash and pole down.”
A traffic alert from Fairfax County indicates that the crash happened shortly before 2:47 p.m.
There is no word yet on whether anyone has reported injuries.
Police advise people to avoid the area and find an alternative route.

A burglar broke into a Great Falls home and stole personal property on Friday, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
The homeowner came home at 8:25 p.m. on Feb. 1 to find the front door open and rooms in disarray. Police found evidence that someone had forced entry to the rear sliding door of the home in the 10000 block of Park Royal Drive, according to the report.

Deputies arrested a 34-year-old Herndon woman at the Ashburn CVS on Saturday (Feb. 2), according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 7:36 p.m., deputies responded to a call for a woman acting upset inside the store in the 44800 block of Russell Branch Parkway. The woman was unable to maintain her balance while standing, according to the report. Deputies found narcotics and drug paraphernalia on the woman and charged her with public intoxication and possession of paraphernalia.
She is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on a secured bond.
That same day, Herndon police responded to a call of shots fired in the 900 block of Barton Oaks Place shortly after midnight. Officers checked the area, but did not find any suspects, according to the Herndon Police Department. Later that same morning, police responded to a call of a bullet that was found inside a home nearby. No injuries were reported.
Police are still investigating the case.

Herndon police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at an Elden Street business.
Around 5:55 p.m. on Jan. 20, the suspect entered the business in the 1000 block of Elden Street, displayed a weapon and demanded cash, according to the Herndon Police Department.
After a confrontation with the victim, the suspect then fled the store without cash or merchandise, police say.
The report gave the following description for the suspect:
The suspect is described as a heavy-set, Hispanic male, wearing a dark gray and orange color jacket with the hood on, orange or red beanie hat under the hood, light color pants with a square pattern, dark color gloves, and a white bandana with black spots covering the bottom half of his face. He was wearing black Nike shoes with white swoosh and soles.

Earlier: Police are on the scene of a potential bomb threat at Kaiser Permanente (1890 Metro Center Drive).
Police evacuated the building as a precaution after “a note was found indicating a bomb threat,” according to a tweet from the Fairfax County Police Department today (Jan. 24) at 9:29 a.m.
“At this time, no evidence to substantiate it,” the tweet said. “Please stay clear of the area.”
Police say they are investigating the threat.

A drunk Reston man was arrested for allegedly trespassing at a restaurant in Ashburn on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
A sheriff’s deputy responded around 12:14 a.m. to the 20000 block of Easthampton Plaza for reports of a man refusing to leave the restaurant.
The man, a 24-year-old Reston resident, was arrested and charged with public intoxication, according to the report. He was released from the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on an unsecured bond.
In a separate incident, a sheriff’s deputy responded to Potomac View Road and Benedict Drive in Sterling on Thursday (Jan. 17) at 8:38 p.m. to assist Loudoun EMS with a disorderly subject inside an ambulance.
While the deputy was speaking with the EMS crew, Edwin A. Rivera-Ardon, 27, of Herndon struck the deputy, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.
Rivera-Ardon was arrested and charged with public intoxication and assault on law enforcement. He is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond.

At 12:43 a.m. on Saturday (Jan. 19), a Fairfax County police officer stopped a 2018 Toyota Rav4 after it was seen driving off the shoulder on westbound Leesburg Pike by Trotting House Lane.
When the officer got out of his car, the driver sped away, according to the report. The officer chased the car until the driver suddenly stopped near the 9500 block of Brian Jac Lane and took off into the woods.
Police did not find the driver after an extended search and are following up on leads to identify the driver.
Several residential burglaries happened recently in Reston.
A Reston homeowner awoke around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday (Jan. 16) to the sound of footsteps in the basement of a house in the 1500 block of Regatta Lane and found a door ajar, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
“It was later determined that bags were removed from a closet and rummaged through,” according to the report.
On Friday (Jan. 18), someone broke in and ransacked a house in the 9700 block of Middleton Ridge Road between 8;30 a.m. and 11:20 p.m. Cash and other items were reported missing, according to the report.
Then, on Sunday (Jan. 20), someone broke in and ransacked a house in the 1500 block of Victoria Farms Lane at 4:30 p.m., but nothing was taken.
