Local police continue to investigate an attempted robbery on the 2200 block of Hunters Woods Plaza that occurred on August 7.
A man was approached by a group of Hispanic men who tried to rob him at gunpoint, according to the Fairfax County Police Department. Gunshots were fired and a bullet entered another resident’s home. No injuries were reported.
In a separate, incident, a Herndon man was arrested on August 11 in connection with the theft of a car on the 4600 block of Community Plaza in Sterling.
Police believe David Anticonachoy, 33, took the car after the victim loaned the suspect keys to get items from the car. According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, the man drove the car to Washington, D.C. where he was arrested by the Metropolitan Police Department. Charges are pending in Loudoun County.

Fairfax County police will celebrate National Night Out by taking part in neighborhood visits in Reston from to 9 p.m. tonight (August 7).
The 35th annual event aims to strengthen the relationship between police and the communities they serve and demonstrate neighborhood commitments to fight crime.
Of the more than 100 events planned in Fairfax County, fourteen are in Reston. Complete listings including, the location and duration of the event, are available online.
Attendees are invited to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside.

On July 28, a Reston resident was arrested in connection with a burglary on the 1400 block of Beaumeadow Court in Centreville. Chase Koon, 21, was arrested after police saw him attempt to enter the home through the front door.
Police responded to the scene when a resident called saying that someone was outside the home and was going to hurt their son. The suspect tried to get into the house by breaking windows and forcing the door open, according to Fairfax County Police Department. The homeowner was hit by the door when the man pushed it open, but was not injured.
Koon was arrested and charged with assault and battery, burglary with intent to assault, destruction of property, possession of marijuana and disorderly conduct.
Immediately after being released, police said Koon called police from a business on the 14000 block of Penrose Plaza and said he was going to harm employees there. Koon was arrested again and charged with disorderly conduct. He was then held without bond.
In other news, cash and items were taken during two separate incidents this week. A masked man came into the Sunoco on the 13000 block of Coppermine and demanded cash while holding a knife on July 24 at around 1:30 a.m. An undisclosed amount of money was taken.
Police described the suspect as a white man, between 25 and 30 years old and roughly six feet tall.
In a separate incident that happened sometime between July 20 and 23, someone entered a home on the 2500 block of Logan Wood Drive when the residents were out of town and took multiple electronic devices.

Local police have found a missing endangered adult, according to a statement released by the Fairfax County Police Department released Friday afternoon.

Susan Carstens, 51, was last seen in Reston Wednesday night.
The Fairfax County Police Department issued the following description of Carstens, who is considered an endangered due to possible mental and/or physical health concerns:

Two people were killed and two others were injured after an early morning crash on Fairfax County Parkway near Walnut Branch Road yesterday.
Tonnisha McCoy, 21 and Joselyn Herndon, 23, were killed in the crash.
Detectives are looking for witnesses to help with the investigation. Alcohol and speed may have been factors that caused the crash around 2 a.m. on Sunday.
Police believe the driver lost control of the car as it traveled northbound on Fairfax County Parkway. The car rotated and left the roadway.
At least one other car was on the scene during the crash and remained on-site when officers arrived.
Due to the complex nature of the investigation, detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information to call 703-280-0564.

Two people were killed and two others were injured in a car accident that happened around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The crash happened at Fairfax County Parkway near Walnut Branch Road. Northbound Fairfax County Parkway at Baron Cameron Avenue was closed for roughly three hours.
A crash reconstruction unit is investigating the incident. Two people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Having trouble with deer? Each year, Fairfax County officials hold a meeting on deer management in collaboration with the Fairfax County Authority and NOVA Parks.
This year’s meeting in Reston is planned for August 9 at 7 p.m. in the North County Government Center (1801 Cameron Glen Drive). The deer management program is conducted will by the Fairfax County Police Department.
The program attempts to use safe and sustainable deer management techniques as permitted by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, including archery, managed hunts and sharpshooting.
Other meetings will be held on August 7 at 7 p.m. in the Fairfax County Government Center (12000 Government Center Parkway in Fairfax) and on August 16 at the Mount Vernon District Police Station (2511 Parkers Lane in Alexandria).

The Fairfax County Police Department is investigating a bank robbery that happened at BB&T Bank on 2130 Centreville Road in Herndon.
Officers are searching for the suspect, who was initially described as a 5’9″ black male, with a thin build. He was last seen wearing jeans, a black baseball hat and jacket.
No further information about the incident was immediately available. This story will be updated.

The Fairfax County Police Department is hosting the first annual Law Enforcement Torch Run in Reston Town Center on July 21.
Proceeds from the event will support athletes from Special Olympics Virginia. The event will begin at the pavilion at Reston Town Center. Runners will travel down the green trail and back, a roughly 1.5-mile distance. Check-in begins at 6 a.m. and the run will start at 8 a.m.
Registration is $20 per participant and is open online. The Law Enforcement Torch Run is a fundraising campaign that began in Wichita, Kansas in 1981. Police departments and law enforcement agencies participate in runs to raise money for the Special Olympics.
During most runs, law enforcement members and Special Olympics athletes carry the “flame of hope” in the opening ceremony of local competitions. The initiative has raised more than $600 million for Special Olympics programs since it began.
