Congrats to Penny, our Pet of the Week. Penny is an active puppy who love chase geese at Reston National Golf Course. Here is what her owner Katie has to say about her:

This is Penny girl. She is the sweetest girl! Penny is a Pomeranian-Shih Tzu mix, we like to call her a Shiranian. Her birthday is Oct. 9, 2014. She is almost 11 months old.

Her favorite toys are tennis balls, bones, and chewing on squeaky toys! She loves to find golf balls too whenever she can.

She loves to snuggle and give lots of kisses. She plays all day long with just about any kind of pet. She has had fun with toads, cats, and lots of different kinds of dogs. She loves chasing the geese out on Reston National (sorry golfers, that is my bad dog out there). She has her neighbor dog, Molly, who is her best friend. They play every day for hours.

When we got her it was during the winter and she loved the snow. She would run in circles pretty much rototilling our lawn for us. Summer came and she seems to like summer just as much.

Penny and Katie will get $100 in Becky’s Bucks, as well as some dog treats from our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care.

Anna

This week’s Reston Pet of the Week is Anna, a Maltese/Poodle mix who could use a loving home.

Here is what her people at Caring Hearts Rescue have to say about her:

Named after a Disney Princess, Anna was found wandering the streets alone and ended up in a rural Virginia shelter.

She is an 8-year year old Maltese/Poodle mix and weighs a mere nine pounds. She has wiggled right into the hearts of everyone she has met. The transporters and vet staff were quite smitten with her. Her foster mom writes, “Oh my goodness, is this girl ever sweet! Not a mean bone in her body! She is a total love bug.”

Anna is quiet and a little shy but warms up very quickly to her humans. She is content being by your side or sitting on your lap. She dances around in circles when it is time to eat…but eats like the classy little lady she is.

She is very pretty, with big brown eyes and silky soft white hair.

Anna recently had her spay surgery and a complete dental and is in tip-top shape. Like most rescue dogs, Anna is getting a refresher course on house-training. She does fine with the other dogs in her foster home.

Are you and Anna a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and $100 in Becky’s Bucks.

Laney is a combination of the sweet breeds we call the hound mixes. Maybe some Beagle, maybe a little Spaniel and possibly some Lab tossed in. Whatever the mix is she is a cutie and super sweet.

She came to us starved and unloved. She was born last December and is a cute color of brindle and white and weighs about 20 lbs. She will be a small-to-medium size dog when full grown.

She’s playful and ready for lots of action. She loves attention from all age people and other dogs. Come and meet Laney to see if she is your match and you are hers.

cuddles

Meet Cuddles, our Reston Pet of the Week. Cuddles is an older male cat in need of a home.

Here is what the people at Reston’s Little Buddies Adoption and Humane Society have to say about him:

Never was there a more handsome cat than Cuddles. Just look at all that gorgeous, silky orange and white fur.

Also, never was there a more affectionate cat. He is a total lap cat.

Because of allergies, his previous family with whom he lived for his entire life up to now, had to give him up. They say that Cuddles is cute and very well-behaved.

He loves toys. Cuddles is nine years old.

Are you and Cuddles a match? If so, Contact Little Buddies. Then let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and $100 in Becky’s Bucks.

This week’s Reston Pet of the Week is Raven, a Boxer puppy. Here is what owner Chrystal has to say about her:

Raven is a 6 month old loving happy boxer mix.  She is named after the Baltimore Ravens.  Since she has been in our home, she has brought us closer together.

She loves children. She will greet them with smiles and wagging tail. She absolutely Loves “walking herself.”

Raven is silly, smart, protective, obedient, loving, a great cuddle buddy, laid back and gentle. She is a great swimmer and has the most silliest run (she thinks she’s a racehorse at times).

She likes to try new things and loves attention.  She poses well for pictures.
Raven absolutely loves watching Spongebob. She goes everywhere we go.

She is the only dog that I’ve had that hasn’t torn anything up. Raven is the biggest blessing in our lives. She likes when butterflies rest on her.

This week’s Reston Pets of the Week are kitten siblings Lucy, Andy, Sheriff Truman and Agent Cooper. They are about eight weeks old and in need of a home. They are currently being fostered by Fancy Cats Rescue Team. Here is what their Petfinder profile says:

Sheriff Truman and his siblings Lucy, Andy, and Agent Cooper were born on April 14, 2015.

These kittens are super fun-loving, affectionate, playful, and adorable! They were found under a parked car at around four weeks of age, with no mom, very hungry and a little bit hissy. They very quickly learned to trust people — foster mom equals food and attention.

They are little chow hounds — they love to eat.  They are chunky little monkeys, that’s for sure! Sheriff Truman plays the most intensely out of all of this litter. Lucy is the tiniest of these not-so-tiny kittens. Her brothers may outweigh her, but she is scrappy and plays just as hard as they do. She’s usually the first one to head to their kitten bed after a play session. She and Sheriff Truman are best buddies. Andy and Agent Cooper like to roughhouse and have a great time together.

It is Fancy Cats’ policy that kittens be adopted in pairs or have an age-appropriate playmate in the home already.

If you adopt any of these kittens, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you treats and $100 in Becky’s Bucks.

Our Reston Pet of the Week is Melchi, a rescue dog who likes hiking, swimming and ice cream cones.

Here is what his owner Cary has to say about him:

Melchi is a 3 1/2-year-old black lab/pit bull mix, rescued by Operation Paws for Homes, who brought him up to NoVa from a rural shelter in North Carolina. Melchi my first dog, and he is the literal love and light of my life.

Melchi was adopted as a puppy and started going to the Reston Dog Park when he was just four months old. The first few weeks he went, he was so scared he wouldn’t even leave the safety of “home base”– his mom’s legs. After a while, the friendly, awesome and kind people and dogs of the dog park helped to pull him out of his shell and build his confidence. Now Melchi is a dog park regular with many friends from the park who we get together with for hikes, dog parties and play dates.

Melchi is a very active dog when activities are planned, but will be a couch potato when home. His favorite things to do are go off-leash hiking in the woods, swim in rivers and lakes (oceans are too scary for him), and play fetch by having his dad hit him Chuck-It balls with a whiffle ball bat — either on land or in the water. If you throw it, he will not go after it. And if you throw any other ball but the Chuck-It, forget it. But if it’s “his” ball and it’s hit, he will go until he drops.

Melchi also loves to spend time with all of his dog park friends and especially his brother, Richie, who his mom’s aunt adopted at the same time from the same litter. They are true BFFs. Lastly, Melchi will do just about anything for an ice cream cone or a frozen marrow bone.

Melchi would love to suggest a few favorite spots for his fellow canine pals to hit up: Seneca Tract Park for hiking/swimming; The Dairy Godmother for an ice cream cone or one of their “puppy pops;” the Reston Dog Park to play with some awesome doggie friends; and Matapeake Dog Beach for a true “beach” experience on the bay!

This week’s Reston Pets of the Week are Audrey and Wally, two dogs being raised as siblings.

Here is what owner Katie has to say:

Audrey is a 12-year old Shar Pei-Hound mix who was adopted almost nine years ago from Lost Dog Rescue. Wally is an 8-year old beagle-basset mix who was adopted three years ago, also from Lost Dog Rescue. We would like to say they’re best friends, but mostly they’re just legally brother and sister.

Audrey is a sweetheart who was born with three legs. She loves to make new (people) friends, and would be happy with a hand constantly petting her head. She’s mostly a homebody with some limited couch access due to her softie Dad. She loves any kind of treat and is always happy to share a bite with you.

Wally is a little quirky, even after three years we still haven’t quick figured him out. He loves chewing on bones, chasing after squirrels and of course sniffing the entire neighborhood. Wally loves to go on long walks and follow his mom around the house. He was formerly known as Buddha and still gets called “Buddh” from time to time.

This week’s Reston Pet of the Week is Clifford, a Great Pyrenees-Old English Sheepdog mix who needs a home that can accommodate a big guy. If you are interested in adopting him, please check out his Petfinder page. If you give him a new home, let us know, and you will get some treats and prizes from our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care.

Here is what the folks at Blue Ridge Great Pyrenees Rescue and Education have to say about him:

Clifford is a 4-5 year old Great Pyrenees/Old English Sheepdog mix. He is so popular he has his own Facebook page.

He was roaming a neighborhood for a long time when a wonderful woman finally just went and picked him up. He had a harness embedded into his coat. The before and after pictures are amazing.

The guardian that took him in had to completely clip him so that he could move. It has taken six months to get him healthy enough to be placed. Clifford is extremely sweet and social. He is doing well with other dogs and people despite his condition when he was rescued.

If you would like to adopt Clifford, please complete an application for adoption at www.brgpre.org.

This week’s Reston Pet of the Week is Hokie, a boxer who wound up in foster care with his sister. If you are interested in adopting the dogs, please contact Boxer Rescue and Adoption through their Petfinder page. Then let us know, and you will get some treats and prizes from our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care.

Here is some more info on the dogs:

Hokie came into rescue with Fancy, his “little sister.” He is a big boy and isn’t always very nice when he’s in a crate. He needs a confident, strong owner.

He walks nicely for our volunteers, but acts like a big devil in the crate, since he wasn’t crated in his original home. It has been a difficult transition for him.

He and Fancy have been together forever and still would be in their original home, if their owner had not died unexpectedly, leaving her beloved dogs in the hands of a caring relative who brought them to rescue.

Both dogs are housebroken, crate trained and up to date on vaccines. Because the changes in their lives have been enormous and they are looking for a safe, loving home of their own, with a fenced yard.

Hokie seems to have a slight hearing impairment, too, but it hasn’t slowed him down. If you’d like to meet Hokie and Fancy, please email [email protected] and ask for an adoption application.

Visit our website at www.VA-BoxerRescue.org and read all about our rescues on Boxers to the Rescue on Facebook.
