This week’s Reston Pet of the Week is Shelly, a Golden Retriever rescue from Tennessee.

Here is what her owner, Laura, had to say about her:

Shelly is an approximately 8-year-old Golden Retriever who was rescued from Tennessee. Her owners did not take care of her and she was hit by a car, resulting in her losing use of a back leg and being left at a shelter. However, the injury hasn’t slowed her down one bit!

Since adoption in 2014 from Adopt a Golden Knoxville, Shelly has added so much to our lives. A true “Velcro Golden”, all she wants is to be with her family. As a new resident of Reston, she is absolutely loving her big backyard. Most days are spent sitting outside in a patio chair (her favorite!) next to Dad who works from home. When she’s not relaxing on the deck, Shelly can be found patrolling the yard for squirrels and chipmunks with her Chihuahua sister, Mitzi.

This week’s Reston Pets of the Week are Wrangler and Blue, a pair of dogs who love to cuddle.

Here is what their owner, Kelly, had to say about them:

Wrangler and Blue are sisters residing in Reston. They are the best foster sisters around and help dogs with Lucky Dog Animal Rescue find forever homes.

Blue is a 4-year-old Bay Retriever mix and loves to get attention from any human she can and steal her sister’s tennis balls for a good game of chase. She is an avid swimmer and love hiking and going on walks and runs.

Wrangler is a 2-year-old Pit Bull/American Bulldog mix. She is obsessed with playing fetch and is also really into anything water-related. She works hard to end breed discrimination by being a certified therapy dog through Pet Partners. We work with the Heeling House and kids with special needs.

They are big-time Steelers fans and sport their jerseys on Sundays. At the end of the day, Blue and Wrangler are happy to cuddle up on top of one another for a much-needed cuddle puddle.

This week’s Reston Pet of the Week is Kevin, a kitten with a unique name.

Here is what her owner, Mark, had to say about her:

Kevin, just shy of being one year old, is female. My girlfriend and I clearly weren’t paying attention in anatomy class so many years ago. Kevin doesn’t care, though; she still responds to her name and saunters around the house like she would with any other name.

Kevin is a die-hard Orioles fan, often catching games with me on TV, but she’s pretty pessimistic about their playoff chances this year. When she gets heated about the games, I like to massage her back and neck and remind her that this is our burden to bear as Orioles fans.

Kevin reminds me a lot of myself, to be honest: she’s a bit shy in the face of change, but adapts well. We just moved into a three-level townhouse, which is quite the upgrade over the cramped condo we lived in before. It took Kevin a few days to venture out of the basement, but she’s up and running around now, chasing any insects that flutter their way into the house, and cuddling with us when we get home from work.

She holds a huge piece of my heart, and I’d have it no other way. She’s my baby kitty.

This week’s Reston Pet of the Week is Ty, a Jack Russell Terrier.

Here is what his owner, John, had to say about him:

Ty is a Jack Russell Terrier and a New York transplant who loves chasing chasing tennis balls, foxes and digging holes in the ground near our home in South Reston.

He loves hanging out with his two human sisters, Maya and Sienna. He is an affectionate and loving dog whose owners love him. He has also never met a stranger who he hasn’t licked.

He spends his time chasing squirrels, playing with frogs and digging holes in our front and backyard. He is also a huge Michigan football fan, as evidenced by his collar.

He is 12 years old, but plays like a puppy (sometimes looks like one too when he has a haircut) and has a heart of gold.

Meet Snyder, an Abyssinian and Domestic Short Hair mix available for adoption.

Here is what his friends at Little Buddies Adoption and Humane Society have to say about him:

Snyder is just the most wonderful of cats. Even the vet commented on what a great cat he is!

He primarily looks like an Abyssinian, although he has a few tabby markings on his face and tail. Officially, he would be called a Tabyssinian.

Like most Abyssinians, Snyder likes to have company. He wants to be around people. Snyder also loves other cats. He would prefer a home where is he not left alone for long periods. Also, like most Abyssinians, Snyder is slender, but muscular. He is an active cat. Abyssinians are also known to be very smart!

Come meet this terrific young man. He is about a year old.

Are you and Snyder a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Meet Skeeter, a Bichon Frise and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix available for adoption.

Here is what his friends at Safe Haven Puppy Rescue have to say about him:

This little guy has it all!!!! Skeeter is the sweetest, friendliest little guy — just a WONDERFUL boy!!! He was an owner surrender and they have had him since he was a puppy. He is now 5 years old. The family purchased Skeeter from a breeder so we know his breed and age exactly. We can’t believe someone could give up their family member like this, but their circumstances changed and they are now traveling for extended periods of time so they made this decision.

The good news is that they have taken good care of Skeeter, and he is very well socialized. He LOVES children, other dogs and cats too. Skeeter hasn’t met a walking, breathing being that he does not love! He is also housetrained. Sound like the perfect doggie for you? Let us know and we’ll send an application! Skeeter’s adoption fee is $395

Email [email protected] for an application!

Are you and Skeeter a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Meet Jackie, a Boxer and Labrador Retriever mix available for adoption.

Here is what her friends at Boxer Rescue and Adoption Inc. have to say about her:

Jackie has come a long way since she came into rescue. She was so afraid of everything, but now is far more outgoing. She loves taking walks, but needs some training in walking nicely without pulling.

Jackie takes treats gently, loves attention, is crate trained and housebroken. She is a pretty girl who loves being in the yard with us and enjoys her creature comforts when inside. She has a nice soft blanket that she snuggles into.

When our volunteer first started walking her, she had her tail tucked, but now, she’s just full of enthusiasm to be out and about. She is not a fence jumper or a digger and does like other dogs. We’re not sure about cats, though. She would probably be too much for toddlers.

If you are interested in meeting Jackie or any of our other rescues, please email [email protected] for an adoption application and arrange to visit Jackie or any of our other rescues.

Are you and Jackie a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Sally is an adorable and happy little girl who along with her brother Sammy are ready at nine weeks old to go to their forever families.

Meet Geezer, a lovable 6-year-old dog available for adoption.

Here is what his friends at Safe Haven Puppy Rescue have to say about him:

Geezer is one of those very special dogs that don’t come along every day.

At 6 years old, he is polite, mannerly, and just wants to be someone’s heart dog. Geezer is great in the house, loves other dogs and does well with cats too! Most of all, he is just one of those dogs who steals your heart within 5 minutes of meeting him. Calm, but still has a touch of wiggly-ness when you talk sweet to him.

Do you want to go for walks? Geezer is up for that! No pulling on the leash business with him. He makes going on walks enjoyable — walking nicely beside you on a loose leash. Rides? Those are OK with him too! If you enjoy a nice lunch at an outdoor dining establishment, he’ll lies down right there by the table and wait patiently as you finish your meal. Then, go home and cuddle beside you, if you like, or if you really want to make him happy, give him a tummy rub.

He doesn’t require a lot, but deserves so much more than what he demands. Geezer will be a great family dog — he is good with kids. His ideal spot would be with a single person or family who really wants him to be part of that family.

Are you and Geezer a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Daisy is one HAPPY (just look at her pics!!!) and beautiful basset hound mix who, along with her sisters Iris and Callie, are just adorable examples of what rescue dogs can be.
