South Lakes High School’s Class of 2014 held commencement exercises at the Patriot Center at George Mason University on Wednesday.

Megan DeSisti was honored with the Bruce Butler Leadership Award. Student speakers were Melissa Thomas and Antonia Nagle.

Diplomas were awarded to 576 students. See where the college bound-members are heading next fall in this previous Reston Now story.

Please let us know who is in the photos, where you can. Who was valedictorian, who else had honors?

    • Karen Goff

Hi Linda – FCPS schools don’t do valedictorians. I also won’t ID everyone in the pictures because I was really just there to see my son graduate, not covering it per se. Also, many people feel weird about their kids being named without permission. So….what you see is what you get. That’s why the story is just labeled “pictures.”

Is there a listing somewhere of the meanings of the different colors of scarves that are worn over the graduation gowns?

    • Karen Goff

Debra – The green scarves are regular diploma candidates. Gold is IB Diploma or IB Career Certificate. The various medals and cords are awarded for achievement in subjects, honor societies, etc.

        Thanks, Karen!

Sorry, I had that wrong. Gold is for National Honor Society. 🙂
