Reston Man Wanted in D.C. Arrested At Dulles — A Reston man wanted for assault by D.C’s Metropolitan Police Department was arrested at Dulles International Airport last week after he disembarked from a flight from Spain. [US Customs and Border Patrol]

Pay County Taxes Online — Fairfax County Real Estate taxes are due July 28 (for those who do not pay them monthly as part of a mortgage payment).  Fairfax County has instructions for paying online. [Fairfax County]

Longtime Reston-Based Firm Abruptly Closes — Truland Systems, a large Reston-based electrical contractor, has abruptly closed down, leaving hundreds of employees without jobs. Truland’s headquarters is located on Oracle Way. [WJLA]

Vendors at Reston Market at Lake Anne

Business Boom For NVR — Reston-based home builder NVR announced it had second-quarter net income of $68.2 million, or $15.17 per share. Earnings were up 34 percent from a year earlier and revenue rose 9 percent to $1.1 billion, even as new home contracts have fallen nationwide. [Washington Business Journal]

New Rules for Bar Crawls — Bar crawls in Arlington County may be changing after the Arlington County Board approved new event regulations at its meeting on Saturday. The new regulations will include fees charged to the organizers to recoup the cost of extra police and community resources required to deal with the nearly 5,000 people estimated to attend some of the crawls. The change comes, in part, after a Reston woman stripped naked at the police station after a St. Patrick’s Day crawl this year. [ARLnow.com]

Dr. Gridlock Rides Simulated Metro Service — Monday was the first day of the Silver Line’s simulated service. The Washington Post’s “Dr. Gridlock” rode the existing trains to see the impact of the Silver Line on crowds and wait time. [Washington Post]

Former Great Falls Restaurant Sues Google — The owners of the Serbian Crown Restaurant, which closed in 2013, are suing Google, saying that Google Maps incorrectly listed the weekend hours, which caused a 75-percent drop in business.  The Serbian Crown, open for decades, was listed as closed Saturday through Monday. Obama To Speak Up For Highway Trust Fund — The federal Highway Trust Fund is nearly out of money, putting the $1.9 billion in loans for Metro’s Silver Line Phase 2 — as well as dozens of other transportation projects nationwide — in jeopardy. President Obama, in public appearances this week, is expected to put pressure on Congress to find a solution. [CBS News]

Police Stepping Up Safety Education Near Metro — Fairfax County Police will be working on a pedestrian safety campaign at the Vienna Metro this week. The goal of the campaign is to prevent injuries and deaths due to pedestrian crashes. There were 24 crashes involving pedestrians or bicycles near the Vienna Metro in 2013-14. [Fairfax County Police Department]

Last Call For North Point Director — Tuesday at 5 p.m. is the deadline for Reston Association members interested in the North Point Director spot to declare their intent. Shopping at the Lake Anne Ukulele Festival

Wiehle Avenue Office Building Sells For Big Bucks — Bethesda-based First Potomac Realty Trust has acquired 1775 Wiehle Ave., an office building two blocks from the Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station, for $41 million from Normandy Real Estate Partners. Law firm Odin Feldman & Pittleman is the 130,000-square-foot building’s largest tenant. Extension of No Child Left Behind For Virginia — Virginia public schools earned another year of exemption from some requirements of the federal No Child Left Behind law. The law focuses on reforming education by increasing accountability for schools and teachers and measuring student progress based on standardized tests. States are awarded waivers in exchange for executing alternative reform plans. Virginia earned a two-year waiver in June 2012. It has now been extended another two years. [Fairfax Times]

Save The Date: Lou Lou Day — All lou lou Boutiques, including the one at Reston Town Center, will hold its annual lou lou day Aug. 2. For every $40 spent, customers will receive a $10 gift certificate. Also, 15 percent of the day’s proceeds will benefit Dress for Success.

GRACE’s Artist Member Exhibit Opens This Week — Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE) is debuting a new exhibit beginning Thursday. The exhibition will feature 28 artists working with a variety of themes. The exhibit is free and open to the public though Aug. 23. [GRACE]

Kudos For Fairfax County Park Authority — The Fairfax County Park Authority has been selected by the National Recreation and Park Association to receive the 2014 Kudos Marketing Award, which is presented annually to a park and recreation agency that increases the public’s awareness through marketing and communications. Civil Rights Archive Dedication Today — Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA 11) will mark the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by dedicating an oral history collection at George Mason University on Monday. More than 50 hours of recorded video interviews have been collected, as well as written testimonials and pictures that will be made available to the public through digital archives at the Library of Congress, George Mason University, the Fairfax County and Prince William County Library Systems, and Connolly’s official website. First Teen Police Academy Class Graduates — Twenty-two students from 14 different area high schools went through Fairfax County Police’s first Teen Police Academy last week. The teens learned about exploring careers in law enforcement, as well as crime scenes, K9 units, SWAT teams and other emergency operations. [Fairfax County]

MWAA Steps Towards Building Rail Yard — The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority on Wednesday issued a Notice of Recommended Award to Hensel Phelps Construction of Chantilly, to design and build the rail yard and maintenance facility for Phase 2 of the Silver Line. Hensel Phelps’ bid was $252,989,000, the lowest of the four received by the Airports Authority.
