Looking for something sparkly for the holidays? Kendra Scott, a high-end fashion jewelry shop, opened its doors at 11924 Market St. at Reston Town Center on Monday.

Those stores closed in the last year. That stretch of Market Street now houses bluemercury, a high-end cosmetics store with spa services, Kendra Scott, and in January, a branch of clothing store Madewell. Kendra Scott will celebrate its grand opening with a special event on Saturday.
There will be sips and sweets (cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcake and lots of bubbly) all day and a special gift-with-purchase offer. Shoppers who spend $50 on Dec. 12 will receive a free pair of Danielle earrings in Black Iridescent (while supplies last).

It was just a week ago that the 200-plus space surface parking lot at New Dominion and Fountain Drive was fenced off for construction on what will be known as Signature Site, a mostly residential Boston Properties project.
In a matter of days, crews have jackhammered the concrete, moved dirt, pulled up trees and are doing all the things necessary for construction prep.
In case you missed it, here is what is coming to the site, the last undeveloped parcel at Reston Town Center.
The Signature Site, formerly called Block 4, is Boston Properties’ project that will turn the parking lot — also formerly home to rides at Taste of Reston and the Athletes’ Village at last summer’s World Police and Fire Games — into two high-rise residential buildings with up to 549 units and nine levels of underground parking for residents.
The project will have about 1.85 acres (40 percent) of open space, its own pool and vegetated roof.
Boston Properties purchased the space in 2013 for a reported $27 million. At that time, the lot was zoned for offices. Boston Properties got a zoning change for residential development, though, and will move the office zoning to Block 5, where the current FedEx/Kinkos and Ann Taylor are now located.
Plans call for turning that three-story retail/office building into a 17-story building with 276,788 square feet of office space and 7,800 square feet of ground-floor retail. The building would also have four levels of underground parking.
Kick off the holiday season with a kids’ race at Reston Town Center.
The 15th annual Gingerbread Man Mile for kids starts at 8 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 27. It’s the start of a full day of holiday fun, including the annual holiday parade (11 a.m.) and the lighting of the tree.
Here is what you need to know about the race, which is for children 14 and under:
Registration is $8 and in available online through Tuesday, Nov. 24.
All Registrants will receive:
- Commemorative race t-shirt
- Commemorative runners bib
- Custom Finisher’s Ribbon
- Gingerbread Man Cookie
- Other post race snacks
The course is an untimed one-mile loop around Reston Town Center. Four- and five-year olds will go a half mile. Children under 4 will take part in a “Tot Trot” of two blocks.
Winners in their age categories will receive a special honor of riding in the parade.
Potomac River Running is also partnering with One Warm Coat this season. They will be accepting clean, gently used children’s coats at this year’s Gingerbread Man Mile and distributing them to people in need.
Can’t make it Friday? There is also the Turkey Day 5K at South Lakes High School.
Reston Town Center ushers in the holiday season on Friday, Nov. 27 with its 25th annual parade, tree lighting, and fun for the whole family.
Here is what you need to know:
The parade, with Macy’s-style balloons, marching bands, dancers, the Washington Nationals’ Racing Presidents, and Santa and Mrs. Claus, kicks off at 11 a.m. on Market Street. The parade will happen rain or shine.
This year’s Grand Marshal is Susan Ungerer, founder of nonprofit Kids R First, which helps outfit thousands of needy kids with school supplies each year.
The Junior Grand Marshal is Joseph Dagbe, an eighth-grader at Langston Hughes Middle School. Dagbe, selected by LHMS principal Aimee Monticchio, is a straight A student and a member of the basketball club.
Masters of Ceremonies are NBC Washington anchor Angie Goff and chief meteorologist Doug Kammerer. They will announce the Reston Holiday Parade from podiums at two locations on Market Street, opposite the VIP grandstands at Fountain Square and Library Street.
After the parade, the celebrations continue. Santa and Mrs. Claus will stay for visits and photos and a mini-train will be offering rides on Market Street until 4:30 p.m.
Any donation for a 5 x 7 photo will benefit South Lakes High School Chorus.
The Clauses will return at 6:00 p.m. for the Tree Lighting in Fountain Square, which is followed by a half-hour Christmas sing-along.
Horse-drawn carriage rides begin at 6:30 p.m. All proceeds benefit local charities. Departure point is in front of Talbots on Market Street. $5 per person; children 5 and under ride free with adult.
Prior to the parade, the kids’ Gingerbread Man Mile will take place. Visit PR Races for registration and more information.
Reston has a new co-working space that features more than 40,000 square feet for collaboration and innovation.
MakeOffices — the company formerly called UberOffices — opened it’s fifth D.C.-area location recently at 12110 Sunset Hills Road.
The new location takes up the sixth floor of JBG Companies’ RTC West, which will soon add a variety of restaurants and other mixed-use amenities to the ground floor of the complex.
MakeOffices is also in walking distance of Reston Town Center and the future Reston Town Center Silver Line Metro station.
The Reston location will hold an open house Wednesday at 5 p.m. featuring food from American Tap Room, as well as beer and wine.
“We are very excited to open our Reston Town Center location,” said MakeOffices founder Raymond Rahbar. MakeOffices also has locations in Tysons Corner, Rosslyn, Bethesda and Dupont Circle.
“Reston was the natural next step in our DC area expansion, given the growth in businesses and startup activity in the area, as well as the lack of affordable, flexible options to serve the Reston community. We are confident that startups and businesses large and small will appreciate our approach to co-working, and consider our offices to be the place where productivity meets collaboration,” said Rahbar.
Rahbar says the company, founded in 2013, is rebranding with the new name in order to have an new identity as the company grows. It has plans to open spaces in Philadelphia and Chicago soon.
Some of the features at MakeOffices Reston:
- 112 private offices
- 50 open desks
- 9 conference rooms
- soundproof studio space
- 12 private call rooms
- 10 huddle booths
Perks include massage chairs; free coffee, tea, water, wine and beer (from Vienna’s Caboose Brewing Co.); a large kitchen/eating space; wellness room for nursing mothers; and great views of the Reston Town Center.
There are a variety of monthly rates that begin at $300 for desk space. For more information and prices, visit MakeOffice’s website.
Editor’s note: MakeOffices is a Local News Now advertiser.
Reston Town Center is getting a new women’s clothing store. Madewell — the sister brand of J. Crew — is opening a store in January, Madewell officials confirm.
Madewell is considered a younger, hipper version of J. Crew, its parent company. Madwell specializes in jeans, leather jackets and totes, and other casual clothes.
Madewell recently opened a branch at the Mosiac District in Fairfax. It also has nearby locations at Tysons Corner Center and Georgetown in D.C.
The Reston store will take over the former Ben & Jerry’s space at 11928 Market St.
Madewell is currently hiring for the Reston store.

Preliminary construction is set to begin on Boston Properties’ “Signature Site,” the last undeveloped parcel of land at Reston Town Center.
That means the 251-space surface parking lot at Fountain Drive and New Dominion Parkway will close on Monday, Nov. 16. Plenty of parking is available in RTC’s parking garages, town center officials point out.
The Signature Site, formerly called Block 4, is Boston Properties’ project that will turn the parking lot — also formerly home to rides at Taste of Reston and the Athletes’ Village at last summer’s World Police and Fire Games — into two high-rise residential buildings with up to 549 units and nine levels of underground parking.
The plans also call for a park with a yoga area, public art and picnic areas.
The project will have about 1.85 acres (40 percent) of open space. There will also be an additional vegetated roof.
Reston’s bluemercury, the high-end cosmetics boutique that recently opened at 11918 Market St. in Reston Town Center, is holding a Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday.

Bluemercury opened at Reston Town Center two weeks ago. The chainlet, which began in Georgetown in the District, now has locations in 20 states. Owners Barry and Marla Malcom Beck recently sold the bluemercury to Macy’s for more than $200 million.
The store features beauty services such as facials and massages, was well as a wide variety of brands of cosmetics, including Laura Mercier, Bobbi Brown, Trish McEvoy and La Mer.
You can pick up a really good holiday present Saturday at Reston Town Center — one that could be a beloved family member even before Thanksgiving.
Nonprofit GoodDogz.org is sponsoring its 10th annual Home 4 the Holidays pet adoption event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Organizers say there will be about 40 rescue organizations at RTC. Most will have adoptable pets for you to meet. Admission is free.
Even if your pet family is complete, there will also be a wide variety of vendors selling pet gifts, supplies, toys and services.

At Lake Anne Plaza, costumed pets paraded on the waterfront at the second annual Howl-o-ween. At Reston Town Center, hundreds of children, their parents — and even more — pets roamed Market Street for daylight Trick-or-Treating at participating stores.
