A local coffee shop has something exciting brewing. Weird Brothers Coffee has opened a second location in Herndon (12825 Worldgate Drive). The first day of business is today (Tuesday).
The community-based and family-run coffee roaster and coffee shop is the first coffee roaster in Herndon (321 Sunset Park Drive).
Brothers Paul and Kenny Olsen, who describe themselves as “weird brothers,” first began serving fresh-roasted coffee from a mobile coffee truck along major commuter routes.
When the coffee hit off, the family opened a location at Sunset Park. Although Kenny passed away soon after the coffee bar opened at the roasting factory, the family continued the business.
Paul, an army veteran, drew his inspiration for quality coffee after traveling to Ethiopia and its ancient city of Harar.

After a nearly two-year-long wait, Aslin Beer Company has begun construction on its new tasting room and bar in Herndon after receiving a green light from the Town of Herndon in July.
The company has begun constructing its new location — which will include a tasting room, terrace seating, and a rooftop bar — after it was told to leave its former location at Sunset Park Drive roughly four years ago. The new tasting room and bar will be located at 771 Elden Street.
The start-up left its home at 257 Sunset Park Drive after the owners were told to scale back operations due to a ruling by the county’s fire marshal, Reston Now previously reported.
Based on its currently approved permits, the business must halt building its Herndon location when the structure is built up to the original location. Additional building permits are required to complete the remainder of the project, said Bill Ashton, the Town of Herndon’s town manager.
“We’re watching them like hawks,” said Bill Ashton, who recently updated the Herndon Town Council about the developer.
Aslin Beer Company did not return requests for comment from Reston Now.

Amazon.com Inc.’s cloud computing business, Amazon Web Services, is expanding its footprint across Northern Virginia.
The Washington Business Journal reports that the company has inked a deal with Griffin Essential REIT, INC. to lease 13820 Sunrise Valley Drive.
Here’s more from WBJ:
South Lake at Dulles Corner, as the building is also known, is about 2 miles from the East Coast hub AWS established at One Dulles Tower, a 400,000-square-foot building the company also leased in full. The company planned to create up to 1,500 new jobs in the commonwealth, according to that deal’s announcement in 2017.
Griffin is one of several commercial real estate owners in the Herndon area poised to benefit from an expanding AWS presence. And expand it is likely to do as it lands more contracts with the federal government, particularly as it awaits word on the Department of Defense’s $10 billion Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure cloud contract. AWS and Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) are now finalists.
Amazon has leased nearly 852,800 square feet in Northern Virginia, cementing its position as one of the fastest-growing tenants in the market, according to the report.
Last month, an Amazon.com subsidiary moved to acquire 13600 EDS Drive.

White HART Massage, a business that offers pain management and injury rehabilitation, is moving to a larger location in Herndon.
A ribbon cutting with Town of Herndon officials is set for Tuesday, June 11 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the new location (491 Carlisle Drive).
The business will host a grand opening on Saturday, June 15 from 5-8 p.m.
Casey White, the owner and a licensed massage therapist, said her business is entering its fifth year of work. She called the new location a “tranquil oasis in the middle of bustling Northern Virginia.”
The office community where we are located is a tranquil oasis in the middle of bustling Northern Virginia. It is a calming space. But more importantly, as we focus on massage for pain management and injury rehabilitation we choose a location with direct access to our first floor suite. The ability for our clients to reach us is of utmost importance. That also determined our location, which is close to the Fairfax County Parkway and the Toll Road, which allows easy access for our clients who travel from all over to see us. Our clients come from Bristow, Fredricksburg, Arlington, West Virginia, and of course Herndon/Reston. So proximity to major roads was important to us.
White HART offers massage therapy, corporate massages and a pre-natal massage.
