Reports: Metro Users Struggle to Find Parking at Wiehle-Reston East Garage

by Fatimah Waseem March 6, 2018 at 11:15 am 7 Comments

Parking spaces for Metro users at the Wiehle-Reston East garage were not available earlier this morning as construction crews work in the area.

At around 9:30 a.m. today, users attempting to park at the garage indicated no non-reserved parking spots were available, forcing some to park in reserved spots in the 2,300-space garage.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority responded to complaints by telling users to notify an attendant at the parking gate about the lack of parking.

Users would be let out “with no charge,” WMATA wrote in a tweet.

Another reason that I’ll never depend on WMATA for my transportation needs.

    What a hot mess!

She says no worries. Cars are bad, so we have bikes and Metro. We can take bikes or the Metro to Metro! 🙂

Cars are good! In fact, Cars are great!!
          It’s Metro that sucks…

I presume the plan is to have problem fix itself in three years (and when I say three, I mean five) when the Silver line expansion to Loudoun is complete. Wiehle will then cease to be the western terminus station and Loudounites won’t have to drive to Reston.

I presume the recommended short term fix is to have Restonites bus to the Wiehle station. Public transportation is so much better when multiple hops are involved!

The bright side for county planners is that this will put more cars on the Dulles Tour road, collecting more toll revenues.

The toll road and the Silver line have a great synergy between them. As the toll rates rise, commuters will look to take the Metro. As the Metro experience degrades, users will be more willing to pay the high tolls. Along the way, users will be relieved of the burden of having disposable income.

More of your tax and toll money wasted.

I thought the Metro dance involved crawling on the floor to avoid the smoke?
