RTC Rooftop Video Being Investigated — Boston Properties says it is working with police to investigate after a video posted to YouTube shows someone sneaking onto the roof of the One Freedom Square building at Reston Town Center. Pool To Be Closed for Four Days — In an emailed announcement, Reston Community Center says the Terry L. Smith Aquatics Center will be closed from Tuesday, June 6 to Friday, June 9 in order to conduct soil testing around the pool. According to the announcement, “this testing is necessary for proper maintenance and improvement of the aquatics center. The pool and spa will resume their regular schedule of rentals, classes and drop-in programs on Saturday, June 10. Reston Community Center Hunter Woods will remain open for non-pool activities during the closure.”
A security alarm at a Herndon elementary school alerted a responder to teens inside.
According to Fairfax County Police, the alarm at Fox Mill Elementary School (2601 Viking Drive) went off between 5:30 and 6:15 p.m. Sunday. A school security officer who came to the scene found a 16-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl inside the school. He took the teens into custody until police officers arrived, at which time they were released into the custody of their parents.
Police say they are investigating the case to determine whether charges will be filed against the juveniles.

City of Fairfax Police say a Herndon man made “repeated harassing telephone calls” to a restaurant in the city.
The manager of New York Pizza Factory (11143 Lee Highway) contacted police just before 3 a.m. Sunday to report a man had been repeatedly calling the business. Police say the 27-year-old suspect was contacted by their Field Operations Division and he “spoke profanely to an officer.”
The man was charged with harassing phone calls and vulgar language over the telephone. He was released on his own recognizance.
In other recent crime news, a Herndon man was charged with indecent exposure in the town. Police say 54-year-old Thomas Richard Hogan was seen May 3 in the vestibule of a building in the 600 block of Center Street, “naked from the waist down.” Hogan was released to the custody of a family member.
Also in Herndon, a 48-year-old woman was charged last week by Fairfax County Police with shoplifting from the Kohl’s store on Centreville Road. Police say Dhana Ramaswami briefly struggled with an officer at about 3:30 p.m. May 9 before she was arrested on charges of grand larceny and resisting arrest.

Police in Takoma Park, Maryland, say a missing 13-year-old girl may be in the Reston area.
Mirella Anaya Aguilar, 13, was last seen by her mother in the Montgomery County city on May 2. The girl is 5 foot 3 inches tall, 140 pounds, with hazel eyes and brown hair. She is Hispanic, with a light complexion.
In an update to the case released Thursday afternoon, TPPD says their investigation shows the girl may be in the company of a 20-year-old, Mariissa Pineda, in the Reston area. Pineda and the girl are believed to have been frequenting the Tysons Corner Center and using the Metro from Tysons.
The Fairfax County Police Department is assisting in the investigation.

Police: Herndon Shoplifter Fights Officer — Police say a 48-year-old Fairfax County woman started a physical fight with the officer who tried to detain her when she was caught trying to steal merchandise from a Kohl’s department store in Herndon on Tuesday. (Updated at 2:15 p.m.) A 10-year-old Reston child was rushed by helicopter to Children’s Hospital Tuesday evening with burns over 30 percent of the body following an accident with boiling water, according to fire and police officials.
First-responders from Fairfax County Police and Fire and Rescue rushed to the scene of the incident around 6 p.m. Tuesday, which took place in the child’s home in the 11800 block of Abercorn Court.
Reports indicate the child received second- and third-degree burns to the face, neck, back and feet from boiling water. A fire department spokesperson said the child accidentally tipped over a pot of boiling water on the stove. Authorities described what happened as an accident and said no criminal charges would be filed.
A medevac helicopter landed nearby at Hunters Woods Elementary School to transport the child to Children’s Hospital for treatment.
Reston District police arrested an 18-year-old Herndon man for breaking into a home in the middle of the night last week.
According to police, a resident of the 1400 block of Kingstream Drive in Herndon woke around 2 a.m. on Saturday, May 6 to the sound of a crash. The woman found a man in her kitchen rummaging through the refrigerator. He reportedly fled on foot when she approached him.
Responding officers located a man matching the suspect’s description going through the trunk of a car nearby. The man took off running but officers were able to catch up with him and apprehend him. Officers confirmed he was the same man who broke into the resident’s home earlier.
The man has been charged with burglary, petit larceny, vehicular trespassing and being drunk in public.

A 23-year-old Reston resident was among those arrested in a recent sting operation conducted by the Fairfax County Police Department’s Child Exploitation Unit.
The operation involved detectives posing as juveniles online. The police department says the juveniles quickly received sexual solicitations, warning parents that “this type of crime is prevalent within our community.”
In all, eight men are facing various charges, including computer solicitation of a minor. Among them is Joshua Veary of Reston, who is facing three counts of computer solicitation.

Major Crimes Division detectives from the Child Exploitation Unit recently conducted a three-day operation targeting online sexual predators.
Detectives, posing as juveniles, went online and within a very short period of time, received solicitations and sexually explicit images from men wanting to meet the “child” for the purpose of engaging in inappropriate sexual activity. The suspect and “child” would arrange a time and place to meet and when the suspect arrived, he was taken into custody.

Reston District police are investigating an incident of indecent exposure that reportedly took place around 1:30 p.m. at Reston Town Center on Saturday.
According to Fairfax County police reports, a man saw a car blocking traffic near 11900 Market St. The man said he got out of his car to approach the car that was sitting in the through lane, and saw that the driver was exposing himself and touching himself inappropriately.
“He looked toward the driver’s line of sight and saw a group of young girls,” police wrote in the report.
The witness yelled at the man, who then drove away quickly.
In other crime news, police reports from the past week also indicated that firearms were stolen from a home in the 11100 block of Forest Edge Drive on Friday evening.
The residents of the home contacted police just before 8:30 that evening to report that sometime that day, an unknown burglar had entered the home through a basement window and had stolen firearms.
Police are investigating the alleged burglary.

Five of the 10 people charged with abduction and gang participation in relation to the killing of a Gaithersburg teen now face murder charges.
Jose Ivan Castillo Rivas, 18, of Springfield; Wilmer A. Sanchez, 21, of no fixed address; and three 17-year-olds from Alexandria, Annandale and Springfield have been charged with murder as the investigation into the death of 15-year-old Damaris Alexandra Reyes Rivas continues.
Cindy Blanco Hernandez, 18, of Wintherthur Lane in Reston, is among the five suspects who have not yet been charged with any additional crimes.
According to the Fairfax County Police Department, it is believed Reyes Rivas was held against her will before she was taken to Lake Accotink Park, assaulted and killed. Police believe this happened on or around Jan. 8.
At a news conference Tuesday, Fairfax County Police Chief Edwin Roessler said it was a “savage, brutal killing.”
“It was horrific,” Roessler said. “It was horrible.”
Reyes Rivas had been reported missing in Montgomery County in early December. The girl’s body was found in the 7100 block of Wimsatt Road in Springfield on Saturday, and her death was ruled a homicide Monday after an autopsy.
Police believe the killing to be gang-related. The teen’s mother told NBC4 her daughter had been threatened by the gang MS-13.
At Tuesday’s news conference, law enforcement did not confirm the gang to be MS-13, but did go into detail about gang presence in the area.
“These illegal gangs are recruiting juveniles… [and] preying on those who are vulnerable, who are looking for security,” said Jay Lannom, Northern Virginia Regional Gang Task Force director. “We are are seeing a lot of increase in recruiting in high schools and middle schools, which is alarming to us.”

Two men in their 20s were stabbed in an argument during a pickup soccer game Sunday afternoon near South Lakes High School.
Police say the two men, ages 22 and 23, who were stabbed were transported to Reston Hospital Center. The injuries to the 23-year-old were first deemed to be life-threatening, but the man’s status later improved to stable.
The suspect in the stabbing has not yet been apprehended, but Fairfax County Police spokesperson Tawny Wright said there is no threat to the community at large.
“The suspect and the two victims were somehow acquainted,” she said. “An argument erupted related to the game.”

No students from the high school were involved, Wright said.
“From what we got from the initial investigation, there were two groups of people using the field,” she said. “During one their games, an argument erupted between a small group of them. It escalated until someone pulled out a cutting instrument.”

Wright said the 23-year-old was cut in the upper body and suffered a serious injury. The 22-year-old was cut in the leg.
The suspect is described as a heavy-set, short-haired Hispanic male in his early 20s.

The Chipotle on Sunset Hills Road was robbed Sunday night.
Fairfax County Police say two employees were closing up shop at about 10:10 p.m. Sunday when a man entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded cash. The suspect left the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.
The suspect was described as Hispanic. He was wearing gloves and all-black clothing, and he had his face covered, according to the description.
No one was injured in the incident.

Someone nabbed a tip jar from a business in Plaza America over the New Year’s weekend.
That and another larceny — the theft of a package from a residence on Great Passage Boulevard, a Great Falls address — were the sole Reston District items on the latest Fairfax County Police crime report.
FCPD has previously given tips to help avoid package theft. Among the suggestions are to require a signature upon delivery and/or have items delivered to your workplace.
