Fairfax County police are looking for four of the five suspects involved in a robbery and assault in Herndon.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Monday (Sept. 9) in the 13100 block of Parcher Avenue.

“The victim was walking home when five suspects surrounded him,” according to a police report. “They assaulted him and removed personal items.”

Police said that they found one juvenile connected to the robbery after a lookout was provided. The juvenile was charged with robbery.

“The other suspects were described as Hispanic males in their late teens,” police said.

On Saturday, Sept. 7, a man was robbed by two men while walking home. The incident occurred in the 1700 block of Ascot Way around 12:30 a.m.

“The men were described as being in their late teens to early 20s,” police said.

Herndon Police Chief Maggie DeBoard said the two Maryland men arrested on Labor Day in connection with an armed robbery, shooting at a police officer, and a carjacking in downtown Herndon have “extensive criminal histories” and may be connected to other similar incidents in the county.

At a debriefing before the Herndon Town Council earlier this week, DeBoard released new details about the incident that happened near Locust Street. She said police officers responded quickly and effectively, even though there were only four people on duty when the incident happened at around 7:20 p.m. that day.

Edward Maul Mejia Sandoval, 22, was charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of threatening to abduct with the intent to defile. Manual Enrique Casco, 34, was charged with robbery, carjacking and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

Police believe the suspects were attempting to rob a business in downtown Herndon that evening. As the incident was unfolding, one of the two women assaulted by the men spotted a police cruiser parked in the store’s security camera footage. The woman alerted the police officer — who was filling out paperwork in the cruiser and happened to be near the scene at the time — about the armed robbery. The officer — whose name has not been disclosed — immediately began to chase the suspects as they fled from the business, police said.

During the foot pursuit, one of the suspects shot at the police officer. The officer responded by shooting back. No one was injured or hit during the exchange, police said.

Sandoval was arrested with the help of two off-duty police officers and an EMT from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department. After a brief search, Casco was arrested nearly thirty minutes later after police received a report of a carjacking up the street near Guapos.

The Fairfax County Police Department has taken over the criminal investigation due to the town’s limited resources, DeBoard said. The officer-involved shooting was a first for all three commanders on the scene at the time, she said.

“When you have an incident of this magnitude and this high enough of a threat, it becomes extremely dangerous and challenging,” DeBoard told the council.

The Herndon Police Department is conducting an internal affairs investigation. The county’s Commonwealth Attorney will determine if the police officer’s use of a gun was justified. Thus far, the suspects have not been charged with attempted capital murder.

The incident was captured with body camera footage. DeBoard also said the Herndon Town Council’s $25,000 investment in technology to track police cruisers helped police respond to the scene by tracking the cruiser.

Details about the business robbed by the suspects, the names of the victims, and the name of the officer will not be released for privacy and safety reasons, the police chief said. The department may release the officer’s name later this week if it determines there is no threat to safety.

Two juveniles — one of whom was armed with a gun — took the bicycles of two other juveniles in Reston last week.

The victims were walking near the intersection of North Shoer Drive and Wainwright Drive at around 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 15 when two other juveniles demanded their bicycles at gunpoint.

Police believe the suspects are boys. One was wearing a blue shirt and black shorts and the other was wearing a white shirt with black dots.

In a separate incident, a Reston woman was charged with driving while intoxicated and refusal to provide a breath test on August 17.

Alexandra Gilmore, 33, was arrested on near Hogback Mountain Drive, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

A man was robbed by several suspects as he walked home along Monaghan Drive on Wednesday, August 7.

Police reported that the suspects covered the victim’s face and stole cash, a visa, passport and cell phone. 

The incident happened on the 2100 block of Monaghan Drive at around 9:30 p.m. No injuries were reported.

In a separate incident, someone stole jewelry and a safe from a home on the 2300 block of Duke of Bedford Court in Thursday, August 8.

The Fairfax County Police Department is investigating both incidents.

In another case, a woman is suspected of trespassing in a home on the 13400 block of Parcher Drive.

Police said the woman, who came inside the garage, was looking for a woman who she believed lived at the house.

She was described as a white female with blonde hair and was wearing a white shirt and blue pants. Police said she was last seen running westbound on Parcher Avenue.

The incident happened on Thursday, August 8 at 10:52 a.m.

Town of Herndon police arrested a resident for allegedly assaulting someone.

Police said that a fight broke out among a group of people shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, in the 1100 block of Elden Street.

“The victim sustained lacerations to his hand when he attempted to break up the fight,” according to the police report. “He was transported to Reston Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.”

Police arrested and charged 33-year-old Jorge Daniel Cruz Martinez with aggravated assault, narcotics violation, and drunkenness.

Martinez is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

In a separate incident, Herndon police are investigating a robbery that happened on Monday, July 29, around 11 p.m. in the 12 block of Herndon Parkway.

Police said that two men robbed a man who was walking home and ran off with the victim’s wallet towards Parcher Avenue.

“The suspects are Hispanic males; one was wearing a mask, shorts, and white sneakers and the other was wearing a mask, pants, and white sneakers,” police said.

Local police say three teenagers robbed a 7-Eleven in Herndon at gunpoint early Saturday morning.

Police responded to a report to the 7-Eleven at 2501 Centreville Road at 3:44 a.m.

According to the report, three African American men entered the store and stole money and merchandise at gunpoint. The suspects are in their early to late teens, police said.

Herndon police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at an Elden Street business.

Around 5:55 p.m. on Jan. 20, the suspect entered the business in the 1000 block of Elden Street, displayed a weapon and demanded cash, according to the Herndon Police Department.

After a confrontation with the victim, the suspect then fled the store without cash or merchandise, police say.

The report gave the following description for the suspect:

The suspect is described as a heavy-set, Hispanic male, wearing a dark gray and orange color jacket with the hood on, orange or red beanie hat under the hood, light color pants with a square pattern, dark color gloves, and a white bandana with black spots covering the bottom half of his face. He was wearing black Nike shoes with white swoosh and soles.

Police are looking for two men in connection with a robbery that occurred on New Year’s Day.

Around 1:30 p.m., two men began fighting with a food delivery driver who was delivering an order to an apartment at the 11600 block of Stoneview Square, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

The food delivery driver stopped fighting when one of the men displayed a knife, according to the report. The two men then went through his pockets and took an undisclosed amount of cash.

“The men were described as possibly black or Hispanic, in their early 20s, wearing all dark clothing,” according to the report.

The food delivery driver was not injured, police say.

Police are looking for three women and one man in connection with two separate robberies that occurred on Saturday night (Dec. 22).

Around 7:30 p.m., a store manager at the Victoria’s Secret store in Reston Town Center (11929 Market Street) confronted three women who were seen shoplifting, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

One suspect pepper-sprayed the manager and a security guard as they attempted to intervene, before all three suspects drove off in a dark-colored Nissan Altima, according to the report.

The report gave the following description for the women:

They were described as black women in their 20s. The first suspect had a thin build, long black hair, a pink jacket with strips, and white sneakers. The second suspect had red hair, a blue jacket, a black shirt, and white and black sneakers. The third suspect had a black jacket, black pants, a white hat, and white and black sneakers.

A second robbery took place at 8:05 p.m. at the intersection of Monroe Street and Sunrise Valley Drive in Hunter Mill.

Police say a man with a gun approached a victim walking down the street and demanded money. The man then fled in a black sedan after taking money from the victim. The amount of money taken was not included in the police report.

“The man was described as black, with a deep voice, around 6 feet 2 inches tall, wearing a white coat,” according to the report.

Police say the victim was not injured.

(Updated at 8:58 a.m.) Police are searching for a man who robbed the Sunoco in Herndon yesterday night.

A man wearing a mask entered the gas station at 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Dec. 12) and displayed a handgun to the cashier, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

The man then took an unspecified amount of cash and fled the gas station at 13470 Coppermine Road.

Police said there were no injuries.

“The suspect was described as a black man, about 6 feet tall, and 200 pounds,” according to the report.

A man who was using a ride-sharing app to get home was abducted when a car matching his ride pulled up instead of the car he requested on Saturday.

The man realized he had climbed into a car that he did not request when he saw three other men in the car. As the car drove out of the parking lot on Dranesville Road around 2 a.m., one of the men hit the victim several times and stole his phone, wallet, and passport.

The victim was then pushed out of the car in a cul-de-sac. His injuries were not life-threatening and the investigation is ongoing.

Police continue to investigate a shoplifting incident at Target earlier this month that resulted in a multi-car police pursuit. Officers responded to Target on Sept. 17 at around 8 p.m. after an employee noticed a man was stealing merchandise. Police cars pursued the car, but the man was not found.

In a separate incident, police are investigating a home burglary on the 2200 block of Castle Rock Square. Sometime between Sept. 19 and Sept. 20, someone broke into the apartment and took electronic equipment, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

The Herndon Police Department also continues to search for a man who they believe robbed M&T Bank in Herndon on Sept. 14. Police issued photos from a security camera but have not found the suspect yet.

On Sept. 16 just before 7 a.m., Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded found a disabled car parked in the middle of the road on Waxpool Road in Ashburn. The driver and passenger were found attempting to get into another vehicle.

Maria Alevromagiros, 34, of Herndon, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, possession of narcotics and driving on a suspended driver’s license, according to LCSO.
