Solutions For Olympic-Goers — A Fairfax cyrobank is offering free sperm storage for DC-area men who are heading for Brazil and the 2016 Olympics. According to Fairfax Cryobank, men bitten by a Zika-infected mosquito become infectious and can spread the virus to a sexual partner, even if the man does not have symptoms. The virus can be detected in seminal flied for up to three months after a man is infected, risking serious birth defects. [WTOP]

New Sunday Concert Series — Have you checked out Sundays in the Park with the Shenandoah Conservatory? Reston Community Center is sponsoring these free performances Sundays, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Reston Town Square Park  (Reston Town Center) trough July 31. [RCC]

Geese by Lake Audubon

Police Games Donation — The World Police and Fire Games, which held its 2015 competition in Fairfax County last June and July, last week donated donated $40,000 to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF). Surplus funds from the 2015 World Police and Fire Games were used to make the donation. The NFF honors fallen firefighters and provides resources to assist their survivors. The Foundation also works within the fire community to reduce firefighter deaths and injuries.

Expansion For Cafesano — Cafesano, the locally owned Mediterranean restaurant located at South Lakes Village Center since 2005, has announced plans to expand near Dulles Town Center. No word on exact address or opening date.

Fundraising For Central Park Explosion Victim — A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help Connor Golden, who lost part of his leg in a freak explosion in New York’s Central Park earlier this month. Golden, a 2015 Oakton High grad who attends University of Miami, was playing in the park with friends on July 3 when he stepped on the homemade explosive.  The campaign hopes to raise $50,000. Fire at Tysons Corner Saturday — A fire that evacuated a wing of Tysons Corner on Saturday started in the hood system in a kitchen restaurant. There were no injuries. [Fairfax County Fire and Rescue]

Fox Mill Woods Swimmer Breaks Longstanding Records — Tommy Hallock broke two Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL) league records during a dual meet Saturday. Hallock swam the 15-18 Boys 50 Yards Freestyle event in 21.48 seconds beating a 17-year-old record of 22.10 set in 1998. He also broke the record in the 15-18 Boys 50 Yards Backstroke with a time of 24.67.  The prior record of 25.19 was set in 1999 by Greg Landrum.

Ice Cream Social Today – Cool off this afternoon at Shadowood Pool, where Reston Association will be offering free ice cream at an ice cream social at 2 p.m.

Fairfax County Adopts Social Equity Resolution — The county Board of Supervisors on Tuesday adopted a “One Fairfax” resolution, which directs the development of a racial and social equity policy to ensure all individuals in Fairfax have an opportunity to reach their highest level of personal achievement. Said Board Chairman Sharon Bulova said: “This is a formal declaration that will help shape decisions regarding education, land use, zoning and public-private partnerships.” [Fairfax County]

Zika Meetings — The Fairfax County Public Health Department will hold a Town Hall on the Zika Virus Tuesday July 19 at 7 p.m. in Herndon. There will be several other town halls around the county next week. [Fairfax County]

Taking Guard Against Gunfire — A resident of the Herndon home that has been hit by bullets twice in the last week shows what he is doing to protect himself (and the child who was nearly hit in the first incident). [NBC4]

Reston Woman on State Educational Committee – Reston’s Anne-Marie Twohie, Director of the Fairfax County Office for Children, was recently appointed to the Virginia School Readiness Committee. Reston Couple Makes Major Gift to Alma Mater — Reston residents Pete and Kathi Stevenson have made a $250,000 donation to their alma mater, St. Francis (Pa.) University. The donation will go towards renovation of the building that will house the health sciences department. In appreciation, the university will name the Physician Assistant Examination Laboratory and the Physical Therapy Research Laboratory in their honor. [St. Francis University]

Stopping Zika in Fairfax County — The Fairfax County Department of Health is raising awareness of how to stop the transmission of the mosquito-borne virus, which can cause birth defects. More than 30 cases of Zika have been diagnosed in Virginia, but the virus may have been acquired somewhere else. [Fairfax Times]

Virginia In the Red — Virginia finished its fiscal year with a $266 million shortfall as payroll- and sales-tax receipts lagged below expectations, Gov. Terry McAuliffe said Friday. [Washington Post]

“Today” Show Stops By — NBC’s Today Show did a segment at Fairfax County Fire and Rescue’s Station 29 (Tysons) on Thursday. The story was about texting to 911, something Fairfax County has been doing for a more than a year. Only about 10 percent of fire rescues nationally can receive texts, says NBC’s Tom Costello. Safe Exchange Place — Looking to sell something on Craigslist or another board but don’t want a stranger coming to your home? Fairfax County Police have set up this safe exchange zone at the Sully District Station. It is the hope of the police department that the location and video surveillance will increase buyers’ and sellers’ safety and promote safer and less fraudulent exchanges. Unemployment Down in Fairfax County — Fairfax County’s unemployment rate clocked in at 2.6 percent in April, the lowest since September 2008, according to officials. The number of unemployed Fairfax County residents decreased to 16,333 in April.  [Fairfax County]

South Lakes High School Graduates Row ‘Dragon Boat’ — Meet four brothers and recent graduates of South Lakes High School who help man the “dragon boat” with the Capital City Dragons rowing team. [Reston Connection]

Earlier last week, she also swam the 100M Back, but finished deep in the pack. Meilus swims for Herndon High, RSTA’s Lake Anne Stingrays and the Machine Swim Club.
