A 20-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with a stabbing on May 31.
Fairfax County police charged Herndon resident Denis Alexander Castillo Hernandez with aggravated malicious assault. The victim was taken to Reston Hospital in life-threatening condition. The incident occurred on the 1300 block of Parcher Avenue, police said.
In a separate incident, Anthony Devine, 27, of Reston, was charged with driving under the influence, refusal to take a breath test and obstruction of justice. According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Devine was driving over the speed limit near Route 28 and Nokes Boulevard on June 2 around 2:41 a.m. He is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond.

The Town of Herndon is aiming to become Virginia’s first dementia-friendly community in order to spread awareness about the impact of the disease on individuals.
Using a toolkit to engage community members, town officials and community partners aim to develop respect and inclusion of people with dementia. A dementia-friendly community also has services and resources throughout all community areas that promote quality life, educates people with dementia and their families and promotes engagement with the community.
There are 38 other communities in the Dementia Friendly America network, an initiative that includes more than 30 organizations to foster dementia friendly communities across the country.
Toni Reinhart, the owner of Comfort Keepers, a Herndon-based home health care service, is leading a team of community leaders throughout each phase of the initiative.
“With her to drive to enhance community awareness for persons with dementia and 16-year commitment to serving the Herndon-Reston area, her passion for senior care would only serve greater purposes statewide,” said Herndon Mayor Lisa C. Merkel.

The “Take a Break” summer concert series at Lake Anne plaza will feature shows every Thursday night through Aug. 30.
The concert series is presented by Reston Community Center in cooperated with MSE Productions, Inc. Four of the nights are designated as “dance nights” that will feature dance demonstrations and instruction to match the music.

NextStop Theatre Company is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a special community production of Amour, a French music fable about a man who walks through the walls that confine him. The 2018/2019 includes seven shows that will run between August 3 and June 23.
“These shows range from the truly epic to the deeply intimate,” said producing artistic director Evan Hoffmann. “But each one is certain to bring our beloved community a unique and personal experience, filled with the kind of joy and fulfillment that you can only find in live theatre.”
The season will kick off in September with The Wedding Singer, a musical based on the film starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. In the fall, the theater company will feature East of Eden, an adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel, which brings the story of Adam, Eve, Cain and Abel to California in the 20th century.
The new year will begin with [title of show], a musical comedy about four friends who write a musical as the deadline for submissions is three weeks away.
In February, NextStop will present The Wolves, Pulitzer-Prize nominated play by Sarah DeLappe that explores the lives of suburban high school girls and offers a glance into the lives of young women today.
March features Fallen Angels by Noel Coward. Directed by managing director Abigail Fine, the comedy follows the rivalry between two housewives who await the arrival of a former lover. The season will close out with Singin’ in the Rain.

Fairfax County officials are seeking comments from the public on planned revisions to Lake Fairfax Park’s Master Plan on Wednesday, June 20 at 7 p.m. at South Lakes High School.
Proposed updates to the plan include adding parcels added to the park since the plan was last updated more than 15 years ago, possible changes to park facilities and the institution of a framework that guides the park’s future development.
After the meeting, the county will seek the park authority’s approval of the plan his summer. Revisions to the plan were prompted by the county’s purchase of three new parcels and the need to “plan the park using a holistic approach as opposed to incremental individual improvements,” according to the county.
A previous public information meeting was held in November.

As it grapples with recent leadership and board vacancies, Reston Association’s Board of Directors will explore the possibility of changing the relationship between RA’s governing body, the CEO, CFO and general counsel.
At June 5 work session (agenda), the board will consider changing the reporting structure between the CFO and the general counsel.
Director John Mooney suggested holding a work session at a May 24 board meeting. RA’s Board Governance Committee has been discussing how to amend the resolution that covers Board and Association operations and the relationship between board and staff.
“This revision is necessitated by the fact that we now have an in-house counsel so we need to deal at least with that,” Mooney said.
Rather than redraft or revise the current resolution, the committee has created a matrix that outlines possible relationships between the CEO, in-house counsel, and the board.
That matrix will guide the board’s discussions about changing reporting structures and relationships, including the role of the board in hiring, firing, disciplinary actions and salary.

The Bike Lane‘s Reston Town Center location officially closed on Monday (May 28). The shop plans to reopen in a new location on 11510 Sunset Hills Road in mid-June.
The new shop will be located on the Washington & Old Dominion trail, roughly two blocks from the Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station. Parking will be free.
During the move, a mobile shop will be available to service bikes, including repair and maintenance. An appointment can be scheduled online.
Muse Paintbar, a wine-and-paint restaurant, is expected to lease the space at 11943 Democracy Drive in RTC.

Robert Krulwich, NPR’s Radiolab co-host, will explore complex science in a special presentation on Saturday (June 2) at Reston Community Center’s CenterStage.
During the show, “Saddam Hussein’s Secret Octopus and Other Stories,” Krulwich will play TV and radio stories based on different subjects ranging from an octopus and Saddam Hussein to a bird that invents an anti-gravity device. The performance will begin at 8 p.m.
“Krulwich exemplifies compelling storytelling for TV and radio. He is a master weaver of tales who can transform complicated scientific curiosities into fascinating illustrations of discovery that delight, amuse and enlighten his audiences,” wrote RCC’s arts and events director Paul Douglas Michnewicz in a statement.
Krulwich’s show is the final professional touring artist performance of the season.
Tickets are $20 for Restonians and $30 for all others.

Lululemon, a Canadian athletic apparel retailer, is coming to Reston Town Center.
The business will take over the former location of bebe, a women’s clothing store, at 11957 Market Street. The store closed in early September of 2016.
Company officials did not immediately return a request for comment, but a spokesperson for Boston Properties said the new business should open by late summer of this year.
